Chapter 105: The Ultimate Goal of the Fishing God

Was it Elaina’s luck or was it just due to the carelessness and miscommunication of the two gods? It didn’t matter which is the main case on this one. Since it was unlocked, it will never be locked again which is why the God of Fishing accepted his fate of having the page unlocked earlier and by using an exploit.

"Well, if you are fine with what happened, I won’t be prying any further and forcing you to lock the page again. I am already grateful enough that I don’t need to wait for the 5000 fish to be caught just to unlock it," Elaina flips through the almanac.

"[As I said before, it was due to the miscommunication and it isn’t your fault to begin with. Since it got unlocked, even though it shouldn’t have been, I will now be explaining what the pages in the Almanac will do.]" the god of fishing then proceed to explain his main goal.

"[Just like the God of Farming wants to introduce the world the different kinds of crops and also to spread new created crops and the Goddess of Taming wanting to have the humans learn the taming process and take advantage on it, I too, also have a goal on my own that I wanted to achieve having you as the means to achieve it or maybe partially achieve it.]"

"It means you got some job for me," Elaina went straight to the point.

"[Yes. But I am not going to just let you do it without help from me. However, unlike the blessings given by the God of Farming to you, I can only give you my blessings indirectly, and by that I mean you need to fish more. The more you fish, the more perks I can give. You can say that it is some sort of progression and every progress you make, more abilities you can unlock. As for the pages that you have unlocked, that is where your job will be happening and also the place to look at your progress.]"

Elaina glanced at the pages of the book. Aside from the progress bar that appeared on the pages, the other pages contained blank pages and pages that contained information on some fishes that she had seen before and caught on the stream. It doesn’t just contain their locations and the time they are present in the waters, there is even some lore on every page of every fish.

"Wait...you don’t mean...?"

"[Yes. I think you guessed it. I want you to catalog the fish you caught and record them in the book. All of the fish you caught will be recorded there on the almanac. And as a reward perk for this, for every fish that you have made a record in the book, you will be able to catch a higher quality of them much more easily.]"

"But you know that putting the records of every fish known to man is impossible for me especially since I am a farmer and I don’t fish all day. Not only that but there are still fishes that can only be caught in other places that are not in Darcero," Elaina heard before that some fishes are endemic and cannot be caught anywhere else in some places.

"[I am not saying you do complete everything. But collecting and recording all of the fish that you can fish is something that you can indeed help out with.]"

This time around, the God of Farming interjects. "[I didn’t expect that you are still hung up on that dream of yours to catalog all of the fishes that your father created. Isn’t that pretty much impossible to do? There are many fish in the ocean, rivers, lakes, and different kinds of water sources. Are you even sure that you can complete that even with the help of a human?]" the God of Farming questioned the God of Fishing.

"[Despite being a god, I still liked to follow something hard as a goal in my life huh? But as the son of the God of Water, it is something important to me and I will devote myself to doing it to surpass everything that even my Father has not expected to happen. Even he does not know how many fishes and other creatures of the water he made and let go by then so as the god who is capable of taking all the creations my father made and recording them, it is my duty as the god of fishing.]"

Elaina finally got a little understanding of the situation and even though she is initially surprised that the God of Fishing was the son of the God of Water, this does not mean that the gods are immediately knowledgeable about anything since this task she had is proof that even gods are still trying to perfect or seek the answers they needed.

"So even if I don’t fill all of it, doesn’t mean I need to fully complete it?"

"[Yeah. Gathering the record alone is enough of a thing that can save me time in gathering people who can do so. With only a few documenting the fishes, collecting information for different fishes is something that I, the god of fishing might even have some uses in which area I needed to catch a specific fish.]"

"Hmm, that’s neat and all, but I am not an expert in fish at all. Some are even fishes that are unknown to me. I am just a normal farmer," Elaina said, wondering how she could even record things if she was not an expert in it. It would have been different if it were like the experimental crops that the God of Farming is giving to her. This is a fish and it’s not her expertise.

"[Do not worry. The fish you catch will be immediately updated. Look at the almanac one more time. Didn’t you notice that the fishes that appeared on the pages are only the fishes you have caught so far?]" the god of fishing pointed out.

Elaina checks the fishes printed on the book and just like what he said, the fishes on the book are none other than the fishes she has caught. It even has the records of the fish that she had fished before back when she was still a child and started the test back then. She has not seen those fishes being caught while she is in Darcero Kingdom which means even those she has previously captured even when she still didn’t own the almanac are recorded. There are even records of how many fish she has caught so far in her lifetime.

"All of the fishes that I caught the entire lifetime are printed here."

"[Yes. Which is why you don’t need to worry about it. Just keep doing what you are doing, fishing anytime you want. You can try to fish in other waters and see what your catch is.]"

Elaina smiled at this. Although she thought it would be another thing that would trivialize her fishing and make it easier, she didn’t know it would instead make a bit more of a challenge. As Elaina likes to complete a collection, Elaina is pumped up to collect the fish that are known to be catchable. She won’t be bored with doing this long test in the future.

After the talk, Elaina is delighted to know that a page of the locked pages is now possible to be accessed. It also means that she can expect things to be unlocked in the future this way as well. She is excited about this since some of these are related to farming and although some of them seem to not be related to farming at all, Elaina can tell that there must be a reason the God of Farming is fine with including this in the Almanac. It might be somewhat related to farming or perhaps it is something that even he, finds to be beneficial to be received.

It might be for some time before she can finish unlocking all of the pages but she is now looking forward to it.

As she was busy with her thoughts, she suddenly heard a familiar sound. When she looked at the entrance of the forest, a familiar little cart appeared. Carrying multiple products and even some things that Elaina is not familiar with.

The Travelling Merchant. Elaina remembered this one. Since the Travelling merchant appeared the other month, Elaina was expecting the Travelling merchant to appear in the next few months but to her surprise, the merchant didn’t appear, and thought that the guy might have moved on. But seeing it again on her farm once more, there must be something that had happened to the Travelling Merchant who couldn’t fulfill his previous promise.

As Elaina approached, the merchant appeared on the small window of his cart.

"Dear customer, welcome to my humble shop once more. And I apologize that I didn’t get to come in the previous months. There was just something that I had to take care of that I needed to do. But now, the schedule is once again normal. Now, are you here to check my wares or are you here to sell me something?"
