Chapter 104: Unlocking the Fishing Page

While her brother is already celebrating his luck, Elaina is finally done with her work for the day. Because the other work required her to crouch down, she assigned the Feys to do it if they were still not tired or rest if they were already drained for the day.

Just like usual, Elaina went back inside and changed her farm clothes to casual but comfy clothes, her little hat, a trusty little chair, and the fishing rod. Since Elaina lost during the contest, Elaina is somewhat a little bit disappointed with the outcome. She doesn’t blame Mier for her misfortune but she can’t fully say that she isn’t responsible as well since Mier ate all her potential catch and Mier has also devoured those fishes that she caught prior so she is not entirely innocent either.

Because she has no more reason to return to the beach due to her inability to enjoy any events there aside from the food, Elaina lets the other two girls be the ones who should enjoy the beach. For now, she should hold off on it.

By that time, the Harvest Goddess has already woken up and while floating around, she is carrying the sleeping baby, Mier.

"And here I thought it would be a bit hard to take care of this kid but she seemed as lazy as me, huh? I kinda like that. Low maintenance and easy to take care of," the Harvest Goddess is smiling as she floats around.

"So you do admit that you are lazy instead of "preserving your energy?" Elaina grinned.

"I-it’s just a figure of speech. You know how I conserve energy in case I need to do it," the Harvest Goddess immediately tried to correct herself.

"Yeah, yeah. I know."

"So why are you not fishing in the ocean? Isn’t it time to have some good fishing?"

"I can’t concentrate and it is a bit far from here. Fishing here and relaxing underneath the trees are much better and I can just go back inside the house if I am tired of fishing. Why would I need to go far?" Elaina reasoned.

"Hmm, so you are also "conserving energy" as well?"

"Something like that," Elaina flashed a smile at the Harvest Goddess as she cast the line of the fishing rod.

The two went quiet as Elaina focused on fishing the fish that bit the line. As Elaina continued to catch both small and big fishes, her Almanac appeared all of a sudden before her and suddenly opened itself, flipping through the pages fast like someone was skimming through the content of the book.

"Hmm? What’s wrong?" the Harvest Goddess asked as she saw Elaina straight up freeze on the spot.

"The Almanac opened and flipped on itself," Elaina is not looking anywhere aside from the Almanac itself but continues to flip all of its pages.

After a few more flips, it arrived on the pages that are locked by restrictions. It flipped a few times and skipped the other pages before landing on the pages that contained the content for the Fishing Section.

The locked pages suddenly made a few cracks before they exploded in light and the pages that were once darkened are now the same color as the other pages of the book.

On the other hand, the God of Farming saw all of this happening, and the Almanac that he updated started its unlocking process. Seeing that this was happening, he turned around and called the God of Fishing who was currently fishing on the nearby pond.

"Hey, God of Fishing. It seems your time is about to come."

"Huh? And why am I about to die all of a sudden? Are you threatening me?" the God of Fishing pulled his fishing rod’s line out of the water.

"Idiot. I am not saying you are going to die. And besides, we gods can’t die in any sort of way or form, so what are you on about? Anyway, what I am saying is, that it seems the pages that I put on the Almanac have been unlocked and all of the restrictions you put on the pages are cleared. You should get over here and introduce yourself."

Hearing that the restrictions he placed for the unlocking of the pages appeared, even he was shocked.

"Wait, are you serious? That was 5000 fish, you know?"

"But you included things that are not fish right? And based on the way you phrased it last time, it seems it includes the seaweed and algae. Not only that, pregnant fishes also have multiple fishes in their bellies so I also considered that as well. So I guess even that was accumulated by the time it was done," the God of Farming shrugged.

"What the hell?"

"I...I didn’t know I already caught 5000 fish. But there is no way I already got that many fish accumulated since I started to fish right? Like I know I might have fished around a hundred fish by the time I am done but yeah, I don’t think I have accumulated that much fish in this short time!" Elaina still remembered the requirements to unlock the fishing page.

Fishing Pages

Unlock Conditions: Fish up an accumulated 5000 fish. Repeated fishes are fine and any creatures that can be fished up like crabs, shrimp, and others are also counted. Hand Fishing, Spearfishing, or any type of fishing counts as long as a fish is caught.

She did not remember it wrong. She remembered it was indeed 5000 fish accumulated and caught. If that is the case, Elaina is quite sure that the number of fishes she has caught so far, shouldn’t surpass 5000 fishes just yet. So why is it unlocked already? Did it perhaps malfunction?"

Just as she was still confused by the situation, the God of Farming messaged her a congratulatory message.

"[Good work on unlocking the Fishing Page, Elaina. I can tell that you worked hard to unlock that page for how many days and I am glad that you did work quite well on that task with no pressure in mind.]" the God of Farming said in the message.

"Wait, wait. Hold on, I shouldn’t have accumulated caught 5000 fish already. I am quite sure around a hundred or two but 5000? There is no way! I did go to the ocean to catch some fish but I didn’t catch that many in any way and I only have free time to fish after work so how come I already got that done while I just recently started?! I was expecting to unlock this page around four or five months if I continue this pace with the same rate of catch every day," Elaina started to complain. She might have unlocked it easily but she felt that it wasn’t justified to unlock the page without physically catching that much fish already.

"[No worries on that regard. I already talk to the guy himself and he is right here with me. Since you unlocked the page, you gained the right to communicate with him, just like when you communicated with the Goddess of Taming]."

"Eh? Really?"

This time, the chat box turned different in color. The chat box of the God of farming is decorated with leaves and some vegetables while the Goddess of Taming had her chat box designed with animal features in it like whiskers and cat ears, the new chat box must be from the new god.

"[Don’t worry about this matter. It was my fault to begin with that I didn’t expect would get exploited. But yeah, no worries, this isn’t your fault. You just didn’t know it would be possible and if I had doubled check or specifically given the instructions, your estimation might be the day it should have unlocked.]"

"Care to elaborate? Because I am so confused as to how I managed to unlock the page without catching 5000 fishes," Elaina couldn’t get a sense of peace of mind about it until the matter was clarified.

"[Alright. But first, I must introduce myself, a human contractor. I am the God of Fishing. The one who governs the idea of fishing itself and the way it developed for the child of man and how to use it to gain the bounty offered by the waters that the God of the Water provided.]

"Name’s Elaina."

"[Yes. Alright, so by now, you have remembered the requirements right? 5000 fishes. Anyways, I didn’t expect that the statement I did would instead allow you to indeed fulfill this requirement without the need of catching 5000 fish officially and physically.]"

"How does that even work?"

"[Pick up that last fish you caught and care to open its stomach before I continue.]"

Elaina nodded and headed back inside the house grabbed a basin and knife. She filled the basin with water, and cleaned the fish for a bit before opening it up, revealing a sac containing a few eggs of the fish that had yet to be released and fertilized by a male fish.

"[Alright. So what do you see first?]" the God of Fishing asks.

"The Fish Roe?"

"[Yes. And that is one of the reasons for the contribution of the unlocking progress to happen a lot sooner. You have caught a few pregnant fishes a few times already and instead of counting as one fish, it counted as one fish plus the number of eggs on the Fish Roe inside its belly. Even though it is still unfertilized, it somehow ended up counting as fish due to the other statement I added which was "repeated fishes are fine and any creatures that can be fished up like crabs, shrimp, and others are also counted" and that is one of the main reasons it ended like that. Oh, and seaweed and algae are also included but you shouldn’t have caught that many so this is the main reason why the page unlocked much earlier than you and I should have planned.]"
