Before she could heave a sigh of relief, time unfroze for real this time, and her daughter, who was in the middle of talking before two ghosts visited her, resumed from where she stopped.

Whatever her children were saying, she couldn’t hear it properly as her mind continued to think about those choices.

Looking at her children, her heart panged so much and yet ... she knew that it was bad but before she could make a choice that she would regret, she decided to try something and hoped that it would work.

But to get what she wanted, she first had to reveal that she could talk, but not to her children.

So, once they were done with their reports, she watched them leave the bedroom, still discussing countermeasures which touched her heart so much.

Once they were gone, her head maid entered the room to clean her up. Upon seeing that, she felt very touched, recalling how she had soiled everything once that ghost came, but her children didn’t seem to see it.

"Child!" she called to the head maid with a smile on her face and the other yelped in surprise as she wasn’t expecting to hear her talk.

Lady Thomas looked kindly at the head maid, who, after getting over the shock, laughed and cried happily as she knelt in front of her moments later.

"Mistress, you are getting better! That’s good! That’s good! You will be fine, that’s good!" and Lady Thomas could tell from her reaction that the other was indeed happy.

Finding someone in this cold place who looked at her sincerely like that, Lady Thomas felt happy and glad. Moreover, she felt like she could trust the head maid. So once the excitement passed, Lady Thomas gave certain instructions to the head maid. The other was quite shocked at first, but when realization dawned on her, she understood immediately.

Lady Thomas smiled as she watched the head maid leaving the room and once, she was gone, a frown appeared on her face, as she thought about something crucial, she had forgotten. Her idea wouldn’t work without her seeing or hearing certain things in person.

How was she going to do it without those two?

Then she recalled that the ghost had said that if she needed it, she could think about it in her heart, and that’s what she did.

Moments later, the mass of black floated into the room. She didn’t know if time had been frozen again, but at that moment, she knew that she needed help.

"What do you want? Or have you thought about it already?" asked the ghost.

Lady Thomas couldn’t move her body but could talk now, so she responded, "I need help," her tone imploring, and revealed everything to the ghost.

The ghost was silent for a moment before it agreed to the request of Lady Thomas, and then she regretted it.

"Are we really going to fight this?"

"What else are we supposed to do?"

"But we have lied to Mother already. The authorities aren’t on our side anymore. We need to leave. Abandon all this and just disappear?"

Bertha looked at her brothers with a scowl on her face and bellowed angrily at them, "How can you say something like this when Mother is in that situation?"

"Hehe, don’t try to act like a saint here. Don’t think that we don’t know how much you are enjoying this. To get hold of the family’s treasures. Aren’t you planning to divorce your husband?"

Bertha was so angry upon getting that secret of hers out that she pointed at her brother and accused him, "Stop maligning me. Why will I divorce my husband? It’s not like there is no money at home!"

"Hehe, but can it surpass what we have here?"

"You guys stop it! You can fight all you want later, but right now; we need to find a way to get out of this place. If we don’t, we will surely die!"

"But how can we do that?"

And the siblings started coming up with several plans after temporarily making a partnership.

[As for mother, her condition is so bad there is no cure. She will only drag us. So, the best thing to do is ....]

Lady Thomas couldn’t believe what her children were plotting or even saying. How could they even think like that?

She felt as if she was being lied to, and manipulated by the ghost, but seeing her head maid eavesdropping on her children as she instructed her to, she knew that everything was real.

Her heart panged at the thought of being discarded by the very beings that she did so much harm to. For their sake, what didn’t she do? But what were they doing?

She was so proud earlier, thinking that they had grown up and could now stand on their own and shoulder responsibilities.

Although she didn’t want to die, as long as her children could become better people and live well, it wouldn’t be that bad to sacrifice herself for their sake.

Even if she hadn’t made the two deadly choices given to her, they might have not suffered much after getting arrested. But that was only if they remained united as a family and didn’t sell others out.

However, watching all that, Lady Thomas knew that the second these ungrateful children of hers were caught, they would sell her out immediately. After all, most of the bad deeds she committed, her children were very much aware of them.

With them knowing too much, wouldn’t her life be miserable?

She had been living selfishly all these years and for her children, what didn’t she do? But what about them?

Since they wanted to sabotage her and cause her harm, her conscience could only be thrown out of the window.

Her trust for them was long gone and the only person that she could trust now was herself. So in such a case, that decision that was so hard to make earlier came to her mind very quickly and she didn’t feel any guilt at all once it was made.

It was each man for himself, after all.
