Volume 15 Chapter 37: Flameheart Lily

"My! So this is the demon kingdom? What an interesting location." Someone stood at the front gates of the castle. And it didn't take long as Keith and Scarlet quickly walked over to greet her.

“Thank you so much for coming, Grandma Yukiko.” Keith bowed.

Yukiko smiled as she rubbed her head, "No need to thank me. Since you need my help, of course, I have to come." Keith had sent a message to Diana, and she relayed the message to Yukiko.

“Thank you so much, Madam Yukiko.” Scarlet bowed her head as well. Having her here was quite significant.

“It’s fine. Now show me where this patient is.” Scarlet nodded as she led her to the garden house.

Yukiko frowned as she gently sat beside the bed and started to check up on Selk. While she did, Tharaziel whispered, “Who is she? Can she really save her?” She looked too young; it made him skeptical.

"You better keep your mouth shut if you know what's good for you." Valgros's eyes turned bloodshot and cold.

"Huh?" Tharaziel blinked before his eyes widened. Are you sweating?

"That person could wipe us all out."

“Oh, so you can feel it?” Keith smiled

“Who couldn't?” Fear. There was an intense fear as he stared at her. It wasn't normal; it was an overbearing fear.

“You’re correct. And she’s probably the only one who can cure Selk.” Yukiko was the strongest ice user Keith knew. This poison residing in Selk was ice/cold related. Who better to ask than someone who has mastered cold abilities?

“Hmmm?” After a few minutes of examining her body, a soft hum came from her mouth.

“...Is that bad or good?” Keith gulped. Was that a good or bad hum?

“I know what’s wrong with her.” Yukiko explained, “This is a rare ice poison that comatoses the victim. The poison will freeze all blood vessels of the body; slowly, all her bodily functions will be shut down.”

“...” The others shivered as they heard the effects. What a dangerous poison. Keith realized, "Wait a moment. If that's the case, then shouldn't she have died?" To freeze all bodily functions? It's been quite some time since she was poisoned.

“The poison was meant for the person to have a slow and agonizing death.” It was never meant for it to be quick.

“...”

“Madam Yukiko, I’ll pay anything; please save Selk!” No matter how costly it was, Scarlet was going to save Selk. But Yukiko shook her head, “It’s not that I don’t want to help you, child. However, I can’t do anything at this point.”

“At this point?” That meant that she could have helped a few moments back?

“If you've treated the poison in the beginning, then it would be manageable. But the problem is that the poison has frozen 80% of the body.” The poison lived in her body for years.

“...” Her words only brought more despair to Scarlet.

“However, I believe there should be a herb that’s capable of curing her.”

“Which one?!”

“To counter the properties of ice, you will need fire. There are a couple of I know of. The one closest to the demon kingdom would be the flameheart lily. That amount of fire is enough to burn away all of the ice that covers her body.”

"Ah." Elyndra and Lilith glanced at one another.

“Where is it?”

“It’s in the blaze territory.” Elyndra frowned, “But that territory is basically an inferno pit. Only monsters with high resilience to flames live there.”

“We still have to go there for Selk!” Scarlet was determined to see this through to the end. A hand then rested on her shoulders; she glanced up to see Keith with a smile, “Yeah, we came all this way; if there’s a chance, then let’s do this.” There was no need to give up when they found the solution.

“...” Scarlet smiled as she held his hand.

Like that, the destination was set.

Keith patted Eri’s head, “Eri, be good and listen to Lilith.”

“...Okay.” Eri rubbed into his hand. Keith nodded, “Good, Aria, I leave her in your care as well.” Like that, they entered the carriage. The only three who would be going were him, Scarlet, and Valgros.

“Thank you for coming with us, Valgros.”

“It's fine. Besides, I’m going to be fighting against strong monsters.” Valgros grinned, “But are you sure we shouldn’t bring the blizzard owl? She would be useful in this situation.” Aria was an owl that could use ice and water; she was basically the bane of fire animals.

“She’ll appear if things get dicey. But I'd rather have her next to Eri.” Protection. Yukiko was there, but she was going to be focusing on maintaining Selk’s body. Additionally, Aria had a stronger ability to detect dangers. The assassination attempt was still ingrained into his mind; Keith didn't want to take any chances. Having Aria there brought ease.

"I see."

“Mmhmm.” Keith and the two sat in the carriage. After some time, the coachman stated, “We’re here, Princess.” Getting out of the carriage,

“Woah, I could feel the heat.” There was a volcano visible from a distance. Despite it being far away, they could feel the heat coming from there.

“We’ve provided all of the gear. They’re fire resistant, and you can go in from there.”

“Thank you.” Scarlet was going to open the cart in the back. But that was when, “Oh god! I thought I was going to die!”
