Volume 15 Chapter 31: Target
Volume 15 Chapter 31: Target
“...This is all my fault.” Scarlet was in tears. Her eyes watered as she stared at the wretched state Tharaziel was in. She should have known he would pull a stunt like this. Keith's hand rested on her shoulders, "Don't say that. It was Tharaziel's choice to do this. He was not going to give up no matter what." He only met the person a few weeks ago. However, he understood what type of person he was; stubborn.
“Still, he did this for me.” At the end of the day, Tharaziel got injured because he was fighting for her. That alone was enough to cause cracks in her heart. Elyndra hugged Scarlet,
“Dear, please don’t cry. Sir Keith is correct. Tharaziel did this on his own accord. Please don’t blame yourself for it.” She understood her son all too well; his overprotectiveness for his older sister increased his impulsiveness. While they talked, one doctor came out of the operating room.
"How is he?"
The doctor had a heavy expression as he explained, "I'm sorry, Madam. The injuries he's been inflicted with are critical. We'll be able to treat him. However, there will be some issues." Draezar's blows were meant to kill. It was a miracle Tharaziel was able to live.
"..." Elyndra's eyes widened when she heard this.
Keith asked, "What if he has some powerful ingredients?"
"That could work." The doctor nodded, "However, they need to be quite potent with healing effects."
"Then try something with this and this." Keith then took out some dragon bee honey, moonlight persimmons, and some other ingredients he had.
“What in the world? These are high-quality ingredients?!” The doctors noticed some of the food. He looked at Keith and then back at the ingredients, “We'll grind it up and then feed it to him. That should help him out.” He quickly went in to feed it to him.
Valgros tilted his head, “Why do you have high-quality ingredients?”
“Because I’m a cook.”
“Really?” Valgros chuckled, “I think we can go here. We don’t need to do that anymore.” The best thing Tharaziel could have would be to rest.
"Really? You're all sorts of surprises." Valgros chuckled. The doctor quickly returned, "The prince's vitals are stable, Your Majesty."
"Thank goodness."
“Mmhmm.” Keith and the others left where Elyndra was left in his room. Scarlet deeply breathed, “Keith, you have to win this.”
“Understood.” Keith patted her head, “How can I lose?” Bad blood had already occurred here. But he was not going to lose to this at all.
…
Late at night, while everyone slept, a couple of shadows slowly closed into the mansion. As they inched forward, a voice called, "This is bad manners now. How could you come on private property?" Valgros rolled his wrists as he stared at the group of men beside him.
"!" The shadows quickly turned over to Valgros.
"You shouldn't be focused on me." Valgros grinned as he pointed at them. Well, the person behind him. The assassins couldn't react as one got hit and smashed down onto the ground!
"Seriously, coming in at night." Keith shook his head as he continued to beat them up. Without any hesitation, they tried to flee. However, a bunch of shadows came down.
“There’s more of you.” Keith was prepared to attack. But that was when Valgros halted him, “Keith, they’re not your enemies.”
“Eh?”
“These guys are the royal family’s private guards. Think of them as the king’s shadows."
“It’s been some time, Valgros.” One of the guards greeted.
“...Yeah.” Valgros rolled his eyes. “Please let us handle the matter; we’ll get some information out.”
The guards stared at the assassins, "Who told you to come here?"
"They even have magic items." They were used to conceal their presence.
"He told us to target a little beast-kin! They also-"
Before the assassins had the chance to say anything else, his mouth slowly foamed! The guards backed off, fearing the foam was poisonous. Moreover, the others had the same symptoms before they perished!
“...” Ruthless. To make them give up their life without any questions…
"Damn."
“For now, we’ll keep this to ourselves. I don’t want this to get out to anyone.” He turned to the guards, “I hope that you won’t tell anyone about this for now.”
“...Alright.” The guards nodded, “However, we’ll inform the prime minister about someone trying to attack her.” They had to be informed of what was going on here; how could they not?
“Understood.” Keith sighed as he returned to bed.
“Wow, you’re cool under pressure.” How could he go to sleep so nonchalantly after seeing this? But Keith grinned, “When you know how many people are after my head, then I let this slide.” Keith was the public enemy on day one. There was no way this assassination attempt on him would do this.
“...”
