Volume 15 Chapter 24: Peace And Quiet
While the two watched the tournament unfold, Eri and the other spirits waddled around the garden. She didn't want to go to the tournament today. She could tell Keith was really focused and didn't want to bother him.
"Come back!" Eri chased after Ember. It was a game of tag where the leopard was it. With them being at the garden house, there was plenty of free space for them to play. Apparently, the area spanned a few acres.
"Po!" Lei was the one who caught Ember. The two slowly tumbled around and rolled around on the grass. Eri quickly jumped onto them and snuggled, doing the same.
Noticing how far they've gotten, Fira suggested, "Eri, let's head back." Being the group's oldest and big sister, she needed to be the most sensible. This was not their home where they could wander around.
Eri nodded as she got up. However, she looked around the scenery, "Back?"
“Ahh.” Fira turned around, but that was when she realized it. Where were they? The only thing they glimpsed at was vast lands.
They were lost.
“Sniffle.” Tears welled up in Eri’s eyes when she realized the danger that was looming around them. Fira assured, “There's no need to cry, Eri! Big sister Fira is here; I'll find a way to get us back to the house!” She glanced around and then she spotted something.
“Let's go in there!” There was another garden house there. Eri listened to Fira as they headed inside. That was when they saw a bunch of plants inside. It was vines with blackberries growing there.
“Ooh! What are these?!” That anxiousness they had before was nowhere to be found. Instead, curiosity and interest replaced it as they stared at the berries. Before they had the chance to grab one,
“Don't eat those.” A voice called out to them. That jolted Eri as she quickly tried to hide behind some vines while Mir and Lei quickly jumped forward for protection. They barked, but they had no ferociousness to them at all.
“I didn't mean to frighten you.” The man’s voice showed calmness and composure, “These berries aren't great for children.”
“Hmm? Bad for the kids?” Fira, being the head, asked.
“A forest spirit.”
“Mmhmm! I'm the great spirit fira!” She then introduced, “And that white snowball is not, and the chocolate dumpling is Lei!”
“Chocolate dumpling?”
“I don't know. Keith always calls him that.” There were some words she caught onto when being with Keith.
“...”
“Eri.” Eri slowly glanced out as she introduced herself to the person.
“You can call me mister.”
“Mister, why are you here?” Fira didn't hesitate to ask.
“I was relaxing…it's one of the places where I can find peace and quiet.” His voice slightly hesitated, but this was unnoticed by the children. That was when Eri pointed at the black fruit, "Try?”
“...Are you sure?”
“Mmhmm.” “Yeah! We want to try!”
“All right then.” The man plucked 4 and handed it over. When they were about to take a bite, it felt like their teeth were about to shatter!
“Ow!”
“You have to peel it.” His hands grabbed them again and peeled them for them. A translucent fruit was before them. But the moment they took a bite,
“Bitter!” Eri’s lips pursed as she held her cheeks.
“...Heh.” the mister explained, “These fruits are quite bitter. You have to be more mindful.”
“Ahh, mister! Can you help us? We need to get back to great-grandmother Lilith!” They had to return to her side, or she would be confused.
“Lilith…” He walked out of the garden house and pointed at a path, "If you walk straight on this path, then you will return back to the rose garden.”
“Thanks a lot, mister!”
“Thank you “
“Mmhmm.” The four quickly waddle back to the rose garden while the mister watches them till they return.
