Chapter 84: Chapter 82: Trap Schemes

"Trap, there’s a trap here, everyone be careful!" Zhou Birong could no longer worry about alarming York and cried out loudly. She instantly rolled and her right hand mutated into a three-talon claw covered in steel feathers, similar to an eagle’s claw. She grabbed a branch stretched over and tugged, flipping herself clear.

With a few "Whoosh" sounds, several sharp wooden stakes emerged from the ground, barely missing Zhou Birong.

Su Yu and his team, who were quietly approaching the cave, never expected that there would be a mechanical trap hidden in the weeds. Although simple, it took them by surprise, taking a heavy toll. Zhao Shichang suffered the most -- a sharpened wooden stake pierced through his foot, causing him to fall to the ground, screaming in pain.

Su Yu had just been hit by a tree pole shooting towards him and fell down in a daze. Busily rolling to the side and bracing himself to stand up, Zhou Birong, who was watching, cried out, "Su Yu, don’t, it’s dangerous!"

Before her words finished, Su Yu heard a "Boom", and the ground below him suddenly collapsed.

Caught by surprise, Su Yu gasped, and scales emerged on his left arm. With a hard thrust to the side, his left hand easily shoved into the soil, stabilizing his falling body. Looking down, he saw that it was an artificially dug pit about two meters in diameter and three meters deep, filled with sharp wooden stakes. Had he fallen in, even he would likely have been impaled.

No one expected that there would be so many traps here. What was even more terrifying was that, at the same time when they were attacked, not far from the cave a rock was moved, and there stood York, the burly man.

As a Third-Level Black Iron Warrior, his ability to heal was naturally astonishing. After a night’s rest, the injuries on his body had almost healed. Seeing everyone else, he remained silent and pounced without making a sound.

"Su Yu, York has appeared!" called out Zhang Zhongmou from behind. Among them, only Su Yu could confront York.

Su Yu, who was hanging onto the side of the pit with one arm, heard Zhang Zhongmou’s cry from above and his heart sank. Grimacing, he extended his right hand and grabbed the side of the pit. Although he could not mutate his right hand, it was three or four times stronger than before because of his special power. Ignoring the pain, he firmly gripped the dirt wall as his left arm activated "Tearing Storm", and he forcefully tore through the soil.

With a loud "crash" the pit wall immediately collapsed, but Su Yu had already stepped heavily upwards, launching himself towards the top of the pit.

York did not utter a word; his right arm and chest fully mutated, resembling a porcupine with spiky iron-scaled protrusions.

He’d set up these simple but practical traps around the cave he was temporarily occupying, primarily to fend off other beasts and monsters. Today, they came in handy for dealing with Su Yu and his team. Seeing them in a sorry state, York didn’t flee; instead, he charged forward.

Zhou Birong had served as a police officer for a few years and thus had some experience. She used her taloned hand to pull herself up a tree branch and then retreated out of the trapped area. Seeing York emerging from the distant cave, she used her right hand to grab a pistol from her waist and began to fire at him.

Fortunately, she hadn’t lost her gun, and it was still loaded.

Although Zhou Birong didn’t have much ammunition, she’d been reluctant to use it, so she still had a little left.

With a series of "Bang Bang Bang" sounds, York didn’t even try to dodge the bullets. He just used his right hand to protect his face and charged straight towards Zhou Birong.

Bullets hit York’s arm and chest, making "Thud Thud" sounds as they pierced his swollen skin, but the small wounds quickly faded. Clearly, the bullets from the handgun couldn’t harm him.

By the time Zhou Birong wanted to try to shoot at York’s legs, she was out of bullets -- all six rounds in her gun had been fired. She wanted to reload, but York was already in front of her. There was no time.

Although she knew she was no match, she had no choice due to the precarious situation. Gritting her teeth, Zhou Birong dropped the empty gun, her right hand mutated again, and she engaged the incoming York.

Without a word, York suddenly shuddered, swung his right arm, and a "hiss hiss hiss" sound was heard. Suddenly Zhou Birong screamed as a rain of spikes filled the air, and she caught the full brunt of it.

York charged diagonally forward, aiming right into the rain of spikes, barely a half second slower than his spikes and heavily collided with Zhou Birong.

York, with his massive stature, raced and barged into her with tremendous force. Zhou Birong let out a scream as her internal organs vibrated, and she spat out a mouthful of blood. Her body soared out like a kite with a broken string and rolled far away.

"Hey!" Elsewhere, Ma Ziye yelled as she threw a side kick, knocking away a sharpened tree pole that was hurtling towards her. Swiftly, she launched her "Flying Shovel" move, aiming directly at York’s head to prevent him from attacking the severely injured Zhou Birong.

"Damn it!" Behind them, Zhang Zhongmou also charged forward. Initially, their plan was sound, they had estimated they could easily take down York. However, no one had expected York to be so formidable, creating so many wilderness traps, immediately throwing their plan into disarray.

Zhao Shichang fell to the ground, screaming in pain as his right foot was pierced by a wooden stake. Zhou Birong had been heavily hit and thrown aside in the blink of an eye, her life hanging by a thread. Qin Jiagui was unable to fight because of his injuries from the night before. Meanwhile, Li Dong, Zhou Huakang, and Ning Yan weren’t even First-Level, so they were of no use in this situation.

In the blink of an eye, only Su Yu, Ma Ziye, and Zhang Zhongmou were left to resist.

Ma Ziye launched a flying kick at York’s head. York remained wordless, his eyes filled with resentment as he looked at everyone. He retracted his right arm as a foot-long spike appeared from his right hand, directing it towards Ma Ziye’s kicking right leg.

With a "clang" sound like rocks colliding, iron cables appeared from Ma Ziye’s right leg, winding around it protectively and preventing York’s spike from piercing through. However, how could Ma Ziye, a First-Level, compete in terms of special power, speed, reflexes...with York, who was a Third-Level?

York’s spike attack was ineffective the first time, so he quickly stepped forward, targeting her again with his spiked hand.

Ma Ziye screamed as York’s spike pierced through her chest on his second attempt. York withdrew his spike, blood gushing out. His third spike aimed directly at her head.
