Chapter 83: Chapter 81: Searching for York

"Su Yu, in which direction should we search for this York?" Ma Ziye asked Su Yu as she picked up the two large bags on the ground.

Su Yu had a thoughtful look on his face, his eyes falling in the direction York had escaped the night before. Zhou Birong, who was beside him, suddenly said, "I have a way to track his rough escape path."

Zhao Shichang’s eyes lit up, as he hurriedly asked, "Really?"

Zhou Birong glanced at him, answering, "Do you think I’ve been a police officer for nothing?"

Ding Shan’s death last night seemed to have given Zhou Birong a great shock, but it wasn’t despair she displayed. Instead, it ignited her smart and capable demeanor as a policewoman. All along, as she had needed to look after Ding Shan, Zhou Birong had remained protective, staying by Ding Shan’s side and rarely taking the lead, so her performance on the journey had not been particularly noticeable.

However, as a police officer, Zhou Birong was still quite domineering. After Ding Shan’s death, her anger made her prepare to single-handedly challenge three Iron Chain Zombies. Even though it was a momentary impulse, it still required a considerable amount of courage.

Now she stepped forward and, judging by the sign of York’s escape, perhaps it seemed nothing special to Su Yu and the others. However, with her police experience, she could see some differences.

Looking at Zhou Birong, Su Yu scratched his head, now somewhat understanding. When Ding Shan was alive, Zhou Birong’s maternal instincts were triggered, making her seem like a gentle mother. Enroute, the group quickly formulated a plan to deal with York. As long as Su Yu could distract York momentarily, Ma Ziye could easily use the "Steel Web" to entrap York. Then Zhao Shichang, Zhang Zhongmou, and others would rush in and, with Su Yu, kill York regardless of his strength.

Zhou Birong led the group following the direction York had fled. After about half a mile, she suddenly stopped, scanning the ground carefully, and then turned to the left.

"York turned here. His nest is likely not far from here," Zhou Birong uttered seriously in a low voice.

When Qin Jiagui heard what Zhou Birong said, he quickly warned, "Everyone be careful. York is a third-level Black Iron Warrior, just as formidable as Su Yu."

Zhao Shichang said, "If we do encounter this guy, Qin Jiagui, you should stay back with the others. Leave him to us."

Qin Jiagui nodded. His wounds had not yet healed. Although he could walk, he was not strong enough to deal any damage.

Everyone was now on high alert, constantly scanning their surroundings in the hope of spotting York as soon as possible and eliminating this potential threat.

Suddenly, Zhou Birong, who was leading the way, stopped and whispered, "Look."

Su Yu, who was right behind her, parted the branches and leaves in front of him and saw a cave entrance about a person’s height between a number of large trees about thirty meters away. The entrance was almost blocked by huge rocks piled up in front of it.

Even without any tracking experience, Su Yu and the others could easily see the traces left by humans or animals stepping on the grass near the cave entrance.

Zhou Birong whispered, "The ground here is very messy and the traces of York lead here. The cave, blocked by rocks, might be their temporary dwelling."

Zhou Birong drew her conclusions, but Zhang Zhongmou said, "Officer Zhou, that might not be the case. The cave could be the nest of some terrifying creature."

Zhou Birong frowned lightly, while Su Yun curiously whispered, "Look, that pile of rocks seems interesting."

Su Yu turned to look and noticed a pile of stones, built up approximately ten meters away from the group. The appearance of the pile was clearly not natural, suggesting it was man-made.

"Huh? It’s indeed strange." Zhang Zhongmou was also curious. He crept towards the pile with Su Yun following him. Upon getting closer, they suddenly caught a whiff of a strange smell and looked inside to find that the interior of the seemingly solid pile was hollow, forming a circular pile that was about a meter in diameter. The ground inside was covered in filth.

"Ugh--" Su Yun only took one look before retreating, grimacing and making a spitting sound twice, her face filled with annoyance.

Su Yu frowned slightly and asked softly, "What’s the matter?"

Zhang Zhongmou also wore a bitter smile, whispering, "Damn it. Really unlucky. This pile of stones was used as a makeshift toilet. It is full of feces."

"Human fecal matter," Zhang Zhongmou added finally.

With Zhang Zhongmou’s explanation, everyone exhaled lightly, almost confirming that the cave nearby was York and his wife’s temporary dwelling, and this makeshift toilet was naturally prepared by them.

Now that they were certain, Su Yu, Ma Ziye, Zhao Shichang, and Zhou Birong sneaked forward quietly through the bushes.

According to the plan, upon spotting York, Su Yu would distract him, then Ma Ziye would use her ’Steel Web’ ability to ensnare him. Everyone would then jointly attack and surely kill York.

Afraid of alarming York and letting him escape, everyone moved forward quietly. They quickly closed in on the cave to within twenty meters.

"Ah--" Suddenly, Zhao Shichang let out a wild scream. Caught off guard, everyone was shocked, as Su Yu simultaneously grunted and swiftly raised his left arm to shield his face.

"Bang", a sharp, spear-like tree branch flew in and hit Su Yu’s chest. The impact was heavy, causing him to fall back a few steps.

Fortunately, Su Yu had activated his special power in advance. Black scales emerged on his chest, protecting him. Otherwise, the sharp tree branch, with its force and speed, could have easily pierced Su Yu’s chest, severely injuring him if not killing him outright.
