Chapter 382: Chapter 301: Five Life Nests (4th update)

"Lin...Lin Shi, don’t be like this, why...why are you crying?" The young man with slightly slack facial skin hurried over to support Lin Shi.

As Su Yu and the others walked out of the school and heard the heart-wrenching cries and saw the three figures under the big tree, they too were shocked to their core.

They had heard from Gu Lingshuang that the five surviving people were her, Lin Xiaolu, Lin Shi, Meng Bo, and another student named Ren Honglin.

Now that Lin Xiaolu was dead, besides Gu Lingshuang, the other two men and one woman included their former counselor, Meng Bo, and the one-armed man was Lin Shi. The other, a man with slightly sagging facial skin, was Ren Honglin, a second-year in college.

"Lin Shi--"

"Mr. Meng--"

Su Yu, Qin Jiagui, Su Yun, and Lei Rui cried out and rushed over. At this moment, Su Yu was no longer a terrifying Sixth-order Powerhouse who had defeated Wang Di or been considered a brother by the artificially created god, Xingyu. He wasn’t even the special person that the mysterious golden eagle-headed being had claimed as its own One Feather’s Blood and defended. Right now, he was just a student, just a plain student.

Su Yu ran over and personally helped Lin Shi, who was weeping heavily on the ground. Lin Shi grabbed him and cried, tears and snot mixing on his face.

"Su Yu! Su Yu! Everyone’s dead, everyone’s dead! I couldn’t save anyone! Everyone’s all gone, Su Yu—"

"I know, I know, Lin Shi, calm down, just calm down!" Su Yu certainly hadn’t expected Lin Shi to break down crying at their reunion.

All this time, Lin Shi had been forcing himself to stay strong and lead everyone through the crisis. Finally, seeing Su Yu again, he completely broke down, crying uncontrollably like a breached dam.

On the other hand, Meng Bo was much less emotional than Lin Shi after seeing Qin Jiagui and Su Yu.

"Su Yu, sorry... Su Yu, I’ve let everyone down..." Lin Shi still remembered Su Yu’s last words to him before they parted, he had tried hard, but the sudden appearance of the mysterious powerhouses had crushed his hope without a chance for resistance.

Su Yu personally wiped the tears from Lin Shi’s face and spoke in a low voice, "Lin Shi, you’ve done well, really well. We...we all came back, we...we came back to atone. You didn’t let everyone down—it’s us...we let you all down." While speaking, he tightly embraced Lin Shi. At this moment, he could feel how thin Lin Shi had become and the immense stress he must’ve carried over the past several days.

Elsewhere, Su Yun, Lei Rui, and other girls tightly hugged Meng Bo, their eyes welling up with tears as they looked at each other.

Among these people, Ren Honglin didn’t know quite what to do, observing the scene in front of him.

He didn’t have much interaction with Su Yu, Qin Jiagui, or the others. When they had decisively left, he was just one of the hundreds of ordinary students. He had once resented them for being ungrateful, but over time that feeling had faded. Afterward, Ren Honglin gradually emerged from the hundreds of teachers and students to become a Black Iron Warrior rivalling Lin Shi, becoming one of the core members. He later became a member of the elite squadron led by Lin Shi, which was how he had managed to survive.

In the end, the companions died one after another, and only he, Lin Shi, Meng Bo, Gu Lingshuang, and others stubbornly survived. The things they did each day included striving to grow stronger, searching for food, and seeking opportunities to attack the Category 4 powerhouses, avenging their fallen. The hatred did not die with their fellows.

They had become a thorn in the side of the forces in black and white clothes, who referred to them pejoratively as "remnants".

At this moment, seeing Su Yu and others who had once left suddenly return, and judging from the flames rising from the school, it was evident that those in the black and white who had been occupying the school had been exterminated by them. Ren Honglin felt an emptiness in his heart, not knowing whether to be excited, moved, or continue hating them. He was at a loss for how to react.

Gu Lingshuang briefly summarized the events of the previous night. In the end, Lin Shi, Meng Bo, and the others returned to the school. They saw the deep pit engulfed in flames, the over one thousand bodies within slowly being reduced to ashes. Lin Shi, Meng Bo, and Ren Honglin silently stood there, not saying a word.

Here, their hatred had congregated. Now, would this root of their hatred, together with this raging fire, transform into flying ash? No—

Suddenly, Lin Shi turned around to face Su Yu and Qin Jiagui. He tightly clenched his head in one hand.

Seeing Lin Shi and his companions in this reunion, what surprised Su Yu and his team the most was the fact that Lin Shi and his companions did not harbor any hatred towards them. Their bitterness over Su Yu and his team leaving the school preemptively was utterly insignificant compared to the animosity they held against the mysterious forces in black and white uniforms who were responsible for the near annihilation of all school teachers and students.

"Lin Shi, Mr. Meng, come with us. Let’s leave this forest and go to our village. It was built by people like us who have had similar experiences. There, we have ample food, houses that can provide shelter and where we can sleep peacefully. Come with us," Su Yu passionately requested.

However, there was not a trace of excitement on Lin Shi’s face. He merely stared at Su Yu and asked, "Su Yu, tell me, what is everyone’s current strength?"

Caught off guard, Su Yu was silent. Then, Zhang Zhongmou said, "We are all Fourth Order warriors while Su Yu is a Sixth-order Powerhouse. Lin Shi, why are you inquiring about this? Rest assured, if we stick together, we won’t have to be afraid of anyone."

Lin Shi took a deep breath and slowly stated, "According to Linghuang, you’ve managed to kill over thirty of these black and white ghosts... However, those you’ve managed to kill are merely their minions. Within this Life Nest, there are more than a thousand lives... all unable to rest... as their anger can’t be quelled. The true culprits...are still alive."

A chill ran down Su Yu’s spine as he queried, "Lin Shi, are you suggesting...?"

"My meaning is simple. The only reason we are still alive... is to exact revenge for our fallen comrades. Without retribution, we are nothing," shouted Lin Shi. He rushed towards Su Yu and with a firm grip, he held tightly onto Su Yu. His hoarse voice called out, "Su Yu, we are only Fourth Order warriors. We do not have the necessary strength but... but you might be different. From the beginning when we went out for reconnaissance, you were already different from the rest of us. The things that we can’t accomplish, you definitely can. Please, I beg you... avenge us... even if it sacrifices our lives, we need to exact revenge—"

Shouting heartrendingly, Lin Shi’s eyes turned scarlet and his body trembled slightly.

Stunned, Su Yu didn’t react for quite sometime but finally managed to firmly grasp Lin Shi’s shoulder. He reassured, "Don’t worry, even if you didn’t mention it, I would still avenge our fallen comrades. This isn’t just your revenge alone, it is a revenge of all of us who are still living."

Qin Jiagui stepped forward, his grave voice resonating, "That’s right, this is our collective revenge, a revenge we must see through to the end."

Ma Ziye slightly frowned as she said, "But we don’t even know what kind of force we’re up against. If we want to exact revenge, we’ll have to take it one step at a time. I suggest we return first, then plan for the long run." She had an inkling that the forces the individuals wearing black and white were affiliated with were incredibly formidable. She didn’t want Su Yu to take any unnecessary risks, at least for now; it didn’t seem like the best time.

"I know," Lin Shi suddenly stated, "I have traveled through this entire area. There are a total of five of these Life Nests, and they form a giant circle. I don’t know what the enemy is planning, but if we destroy all five Life Nests, we can definitely draw out the real enemy. That person is the true culprit responsible for our frightening losses."

Ada was mildly shocked at the revelation, "Five Life Nests? It seems my guess was correct. This must be some ancient, evil, secret method. These five Life Nests probably form a pentagram. The Pentagram... is essentially a symbol of Dark Hell. Su Yu, it’s best for us not to meddle in this matter. The actual power and forces involved in this... might be more than what we can handle."

When Ada suddenly spoke, Lin Shi was taken aback and asked, "This is...?"

"This is a Category 5 Lifeform. Binding a contract with it will prevent our life energy from rapidly draining," explained Su Yu. An idea popped into his head and he continued, "You all haven’t become Bond Life Summoners yet, have you? Quickly form a contract with Ada, otherwise ’Heavenly Man Quint Decay’ will soon set in."

Seeing the puzzled expressions on Lin Shi and his companions, Su Yu simply explained the situation. After hearing his words, Lin Shi and his companions couldn’t help but shiver. Ren Honglin blurted out, "No wonder Professor Shi suddenly aged and died within a few days. We initially thought that he contracted some strange disease. No one knew the actual reason. So, it was Heavenly Man Quint Decay..."

The Professor Shi that Ren Honglin mentioned was well-known amongst Su Yu and the rest. He was an elderly professor who taught them Marxism. When he received his special power, without establishing a contract in this rapidly draining world, he was bound to swiftly die. However, since Lin Shi and his companions were unaware of the reason, they were under the impression that he died of some weird disease. They even feared that it was contagious, causing a rather significant uproar.

Only after hearing Su Yu’s explanation did everyone realize the truth. After calculating the time, they realized the dreadful ’Heavenly Man Quint Decay’ may not be too far away from any of them.
