Chapter 237: Chapter 198: Unexpected Visitor

Qin Jiagui curiously asked: "Why is everyone so excited?" In his mind, capturing a pig-like creature should not be too difficult.

Meng Ting laughed: "In this world, although the meat of many monsters can be eaten, they are often tough and dry. But the Tusk Pig Beast is different. Its meat is comparable to the pork in our previous world. Unfortunately, it’s hard to catch, which is why everyone is so excited."

Then she pointed at a handsome young man who was surrounded by a group of people and introduced: "This is Xiao Bai, a fourth-order warrior. He led this hunting party."

As she was speaking, Xiao Bai came over to them with a jovial laugh, first sweetly calling out, "Sister Ting."

Meng Ting smiled, "Xiao Bai, well done. Come, let me introduce you to some people." Then she introduced Xiao Bai to Qin Jiagui and the others.

Xiao Bai smiled and said, "Great, Freedom Village will be even more lively now. Fortunately, we got a Tusk Pig Beast today. Tonight, we can have a big feast. While eating, you’ll surely remember the days when you used to have pork, haha."

Seeing Xiao Bai’s outgoing personality, everyone quickly warmed up to him. Fang Jiong was particularly excited and ran over to the thousand-pound Tusk Pig Beast, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

Meng Ting already knew he used to be a top-tier chef, so she delegated the entire task of cooking to him.

Fang Jiong took out a cow splitting knife after counting the number of people. He showcased his impressive knife skills, skinning and cutting the Tusk Pig Beast. In no time, it was perfectly butchered in front of him. By then, people had fetched a large amount of water from the nearby River of Oblivion in homemade buckets. Everyone worked together to clean the pork.

Fang Jiong washed a large clay pot he was carrying on his back, then made a makeshift stove using stones. He placed the pot on top and filled it with water. He cut the pork into large chunks and put them in the pot. Ma Ziye and some other women who knew a bit about cooking assisted him. Soon, a large fire was kindled beneath the pot. The water in the pot boiled and made a subtle "pop" sound.

Next, Fang Jiong instructed someone to get large leaves, as big as fans. He cut several large flat pieces of meat from the Tusk Pig Beast, wrapped them in the leaves, and propped them up using clean sticks. The wrapped meat was smeared with a thick layer of mud and shoved into the base of the fire.

Fang Jiong had also gotten several iron rods from Shang Qi. He inserted the rods into large chunks of meat and started roasting them over the fire.

Everyone watched Fang Jiong’s swift actions with dazzled eyes. Soon, the rich aroma of roasting meat wafted through the air, making everyone’s mouth water.

Although Qin Jiagui and the others had been fortunate enough to find some food due to good luck, those foods were mostly things like hardtack and biscuits. They had not had a warm meal in nearly two weeks. The smell of the roasting meat made their mouths water uncontrollably.

Once everything was ready, Fang Jiong asked Meng Ting and others for some advice. Then he brought some mushroom-like ingredients from somewhere and added them to the boiling pot. The aroma of pork blended with the scent of mushrooms wafted into the air, stimulating everyone’s appetite even more.

The original forty-plus residents of Freedom Village plus Qin Jiagui’s group made up nearly sixty people. They were all excited and gathered around the pot. They could see that the meat was almost done, and some people brought out crude wooden vessels carved out of logs to serve as bowls.

Fang Jiong served each person a small portion of the meat from the pot.

Zhang Zhongmou was so impatient that he drank even though it was hot. Despite burning his mouth, he felt a burst of warmth flowing from his mouth down to his stomach. Then he scooped up the meat from his bowl with his hand. The meat was so tender it came right off the bone. Having not had a warm meal in weeks, he found it unbelievably delicious, nearly swallowing his own tongue in the process.

"Haha, eat to your heart’s content. It’s okay, I’ll cook more if we run out," Fang Jiong laughed and got himself a small portion. After tasting it, he shook his head, "The flavors are pretty good, but I dared not use too much in the beginning. If we add a little more, the flavor will be even better. The next batch will definitely taste better."

When Fang Jiong took out one of the mud-covered chunks of meat from the fire, he saw that the outer mud layer had hardened. He lightly pressed it and the hardened mud cracked. Everyone gathered around to see. Fang Jiong carefully peeled away the hardened mud and the leaf wrap inside, revealing the slightly golden meat inside. Drops of oil slowly oozed out from the meat. Even to the untrained eye, the meat was incredibly tender.

A few people instinctively swallowed a mouthful of saliva as they watched, then laughed at each other, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Dragon Kid suddenly hopped up, wiggling his little nose, and exclaimed, "Come on, let this dragon have the first bite, it’s too fragrant."

On the other side, Ada was holding a bone, gnawing on the meat, his face smeared with grease.

Ma Ziye smiled as she watched everything in front of her, occasionally turning her head to glance at Su Yu, who still sat alone in the distance, deeply immersed in the State of Selflessness.

At this moment, Su Yu’s arms continuously underwent the ’Lizard Arm’ transformation and then quickly reverted back to normal. It seemed that in his State of Selflessness, he had gained some new insight and was still undergoing deeper enlightenment.

A small smile played at the corner of Ma Ziye’s mouth as she watched Su Yu in the distance and the bustling atmosphere in front of her. For the first time, her mood was calm, and in the busy chatter of the crowd, she felt a long-missed warmth.

However, this warm atmosphere was soon disrupted by a shrill roar.

The bustling and clamor quieted down instantly. Everyone turned their heads to look outside.

Not far from the rock inscribed with ’Freedom Village’, three large shapes were rapidly approaching. At a closer look, these were three beasts galloping on all fours.

Each of these three galloping beasts had a silhouette sitting on its back.

In the square at the heart of Freedom Village, several bonfires burned brightly, lighting the surrounding area with a fiery glow. These uninvited guests quickly came into view, with the lead beast letting out another shrill roar.

Qin Jiagui, Zhang Zhongmou, Zhao Shichang, and others, all stood up and quickly recognized this wild beast. It was the size of an adult ox or horse but had two black horns on its head, thick scales on its skull, and a protruding mouth. Looking like a horse with an alligator head crowned with horns and three constantly twitching tails, it appeared agile, fierce, and terrifying.

The previously excited residents of Freedom Village looked surprised. Meng Ting murmured, "Horned Demon Horses? These three..."

The three aloof figures atop the menacing ’Horned Demon Horses’ surveyed the crowd with six eyes from their high mounted seats.

The once lively atmosphere suddenly became quiet, leaving only the crackling of the burning large bonfires and the occasional low roar emitted by the three ’Horned Demon Horses’.

"Smells so good!" Finally, the man in the middle, wearing a long black cloak made of animal skin, lightly sniffed and suddenly laughed. His voice was loud as thunder in a drought, his eyes fixated on the boiling hot pig meat on the stove.

Meng Ting had been observing these three men. She felt that their strengths were unfathomable, at least Fourth Order or greater. More than that, they were riding ’Horned Demon Horses’, suggesting no ordinary origin.

The ’Horned Demon Horse’ was among the creatures that Meng Ting had mentioned could be domesticated in this world. It was a fourth-level beast soldier, a herbivore. Its strength wasn’t particularly strong, but it excelled in endurance and speed. Despite its ferocity, its intelligence was low, and it could be domesticated through simple means once captured.

Capturing this fourth-level ’Horned Demon Horse’ was quite challenging due to its speed, making it difficult for even fourth order strongmen to keep pace. To successfully catch a ’Horned Demon Horse’, it would take at least several Level Five strongmen working together or a large group of Fourth Order warriors. Even if Meng Ting and the others were to do this together, they wouldn’t necessarily capture one.

Therefore, those who could ride a ’Horned Demon Horse’ were of considerable standing.

After the man in the middle, clad in an animal skin cloak, loudly commented on the fragrance, he dismounted the ’Horned Demon Horse’ with a leap. He patted the head of the Demon Horse, which obediently trotted off to the side to graze.

After the cloaked man dismounted the ’Horned Demon Horse’, two others followed suit. On the left was a young man wearing black animal skin trousers, slender, with a serious face that conveyed a sense of maturity. On the right was a middle-aged man with a lean face. He had an odd pair of faintly blue eyes that exuded a cold aura, making anyone he stared at feel as if they were prey under a snake’s gaze.

Seeing the three men dismount the ’Horned Demon Horses’, Meng Ting stepped forward. The others dispersed, those of weaker strength retreating, while the stronger ones subtly moved to the front. Unconsciously, they fell into a defensive formation. In this darkness, the sudden appearance of three strange and unexpected guests put everyone on guard.
