Chapter 236: Chapter 197 Village Conflicts_2
Among them, Meng Ting and Meng Jun were the fastest, reaching the destination in just a little while despite the miles.
Qin Jiagui and Zhang Zhongmou were lagging behind. When they finally arrived at the valley, they heard loud laughter coming from there.
"Since Miss Meng has taken action, we have to respect her! Who doesn’t know she is the apple of our Boss Wang’s eye? Ha ha." A voice as coarse as a drake’s echoed.
When Qin Jiagui and Zhang Zhongmou approached, they found Meng Ting and about a dozen others standing defensively by a pile of Fire Elemental Energy Stones. They were facing off against several other people.
Though the opponents only numbered seven and were vastly outnumbered, they posed a much stronger stance compared to Meng Ting and her group.
"Xia Jun, stop your nonsense!" Meng Ting’s dollish face maintained her sweet smile, but her eyes were icy cold.
As Qin Jiagui and Zhang Zhongmou joined the group behind Meng Ting, the opposing seven glanced at them, seemingly feeling no threat, and did not pay further attention.
The leader of the seven was a handsome young man in his twenties, but his voice was as raspy as a drake. After hearing Meng Ting’s words, he giggled and said, "Miss Meng, I speak the truth. Boss Wang has admired you for a long time, not just for a day or two. If our two villages merged, it would benefit us all."
Meng Ting retorted, "Xia Jun, what do you want exactly? Stop beating around the bush."
Xia Jun responded cheerfully, "Originally, we wanted all these Energy Stones. But since you, Miss Meng, are here, let’s split them in half. This is entirely because of our respect for you."
The smile vanished from Meng Ting’s doll-like face. The Energy Stones were hard-earned, even posing a threat to Ling Feng’s life. The next time they entered the Fire Elemental Space, who knew what difficulties they might encounter? Yet Xia Jun wanted half from the start, it was simply outrageous.
"Xia Jun, don’t go too far. We earned these Energy Stones through hard work. If you want them, go find some in the Fire Elemental Space yourself," Meng Ting said sternly.
Xia Jun continued to grin, but his tone hardened, "Miss Meng, I believe... you’ve been here for a month or two and even established ’Freedom Village’. It may still be small, but you must understand the rules. Surrounding us are several small villages within hundreds of miles; we ’Wangdi Village’ are the most powerful among them. Everybody wants to grow. ’Wangdi Village’ is powerful, but we have not ousted the other surrounding villages. Our generous Boss Wang allows you to coexist. The rule is clear: we split all bounties. I don’t see anything outrageous in claiming half of your Energy Stones. Or do you insist that our Boss Wang comes personally before you hand over half of the Energy Stones?"
Xia Jun was neither fully soft nor hard in his words. They angered Meng Ting and her group, but the mention of Wang Di and the fact that "Wangdi Village" was the strongest in the area felt like a splash of cold water.
"Zi Yu, give them half," Meng Ting had to surrender, her dollish face devoid of any smile.
Upon hearing Meng Ting’s instruction, Zi Yu, who always seemed eerie, slightly nodded. Satisfied, Xia Jun said, "Leave our half here. We’ll arrange for its transportation soon. Don’t take advantage of our absence to move them again, haha."
Xia Jun, laughing, led away the remaining six. He didn’t value these Energy Stones much. What he enjoyed was seeing Meng Ting submit before him and the feeling of oppressing others with his power.
The seven of them walked away, laughing heartily.
As Xia Jun and his group of seven left, Meng Ting suddenly kicked a small stone. With a swift noise, the stone was propelled through the air before it collided with a rock some distance away. Upon impact, with a light "paff", the kicked stone shattered into pieces.
"Xia Jun... Wang Di... village..." Meng Ting’s childlike face carried an expression of utter anger. Her teeth were grinding together vehemently. Yet, she was forced to suppress this anger. After all, their strength simply could not compare to that of their adversaries.
"Miss, let’s go back," came the soft voice of Meng Jun, breaking his silence.
Meng Ting turned to look at him and saw a strange glint in his eyes.
Feeling powerless, Meng Ting said, "Let’s go." The others who were present had already began to pick up their shares of the shattered crystal stones, placing them in vine crates made from wood and green vines before hoisting them onto their shoulders.
The loss of half of their energy stones to the unfounded claims of the others was a significant blow to everyone. Throughout their return journey, Meng Ting seemed particularly downcast.
After some thought, Qin Jiagui decided to ask, "Miss Meng, what exactly is going on with this ’Wangdi Village’? From what I’ve seen, their strength doesn’t seem to be much better than ours." Even though he didn’t possess the "Perception Eye", he could still tell that the seven characters were nowhere near as formidable as a level five power like Meng Jun.
Meng Ting forced a bitter smile. From the side, Zhou Zhurou adjusted her glasses before speaking up, "Within hundred miles of here, there isn’t just one ’Freedom Village’. In fact, there are several small settlements here, among which ’Wangdi Village’ is the strongest. It’s led by a guy named Wang Di. This Wang Di is a lunatic who rarely shows himself. It would be bearable if it were just that, but he has several people under him who take advantage of his name, causing great annoyance to others. Xia Jun, whom we just met, is one of them."
Qin Jiagui was enlightened by their explanations, and he now understood why Meng Ting was so keen on recruiting them. It seemed that peace was scarce here. The disagreements between these small villages, established by those who emerged from the "Newcomer Sinkhole Forest" surrounded by the River of Oblivion, were probably far from trivial. With their close proximities, friction was unavoidable and could easily escalate.
These people, who survived the violent and bloody struggles, were no strangers to massacres. Most of them were ruthless, and wouldn’t hesitate to act against their own kind.
Now, they had joined Meng Ting and her group. To outsiders, they were considered part of "Freedom Village". However, judging from their recent encounter and the scale of "Freedom Village", the village was probably the weakest in this area. That would mean their situation was not particularly safer, but rather more dangerous.
Upon realizing this, Qin Jiagui felt a wave of unease, his vigilance heightened. However, with how things had developed, it was probably unfeasible to leave "Freedom Village" and look for another way out. What was important now was how to establish themselves in this landscape and eliminate these threats.
When Meng Ting and the others got back to "Freedom Village", all of them, under the direction of Shang Qi, stored the bright red energy stones they had collected in a dirt and stone hut.
Shang Qi ran his hands over the polished blocks of energy stones formed from the fire element, both his face and voice filled with joyous mumbling.
Su Yu remained seated by himself, nestled within a secluded corner. He no longer moved and had his eyes closed as if he was deep asleep. He had fully entered the State of Selflessness.
The sky darkened gradually as people returned one by one. Before long, "Freedom Village" was bustling with life. Meng Ting and the others had shaken off the downcast mood that resulted from dealing with the people from "Wangdi Village". Everyone got down to task allocation. Shortly after, they managed to gather a large amount of dry firewood and grass. They stacked them in the center of the clearing to make several piles, which they subsequently lit. The fires illuminated the open area.
Soon, a cheer erupted from the crowd. A group of about ten was seen waving and hollering in celebration. Meng Ting and the others rushed forth to greet them excitedly. They were carrying what looked like a monstrous beast tied to two giant tree poles that were lashed together. The beast resembled a giant wild boar in the real world but had two tusks, resembling ivory, each over a foot long. Judging by its size, it was estimated to weigh at least half a ton.
"It’s the Tusk Pig Beast. That’s so impressive. Kudos to Xiao Bai." someone exclaimed excitedly. A crowd immediately gathered around an extremely handsome young man in the group of ten.
