Chapter 230: Chapter 193 Solar Epoch
"Why the hell are you howling——" Dragon Kid gave it another hard kick, dragged Wolf Head in front of Ada, then stood on Wolf Head, striking what he believed to be his most heroic pose. "When Ada wakes up, the first thing she’ll see is me standing victorious over the enemy," he said excitedly. "She’s bound to fall for me then."
Wolf Head, laying squashed under Dragon Kid’s foot, jolted into realization at his words and weakly asked, "So you...you’re not going... to devour...my fire?"
Dragon Kid snorted dismissively. "The Dragon Flame I possess represents the purest form of life’s evolution. While devouring your flame might accelerate my growth in the short term, it will never match the power of my pure flame. I wouldn’t stoop so low for such shortsighted gains."
In response to Dragon Kid’s words, Wolf Head breathed a sigh of relief, seeming to relax. Ada, lying on the ground, let out a soft sound and finally opened her black, round eyes.
Seeing Ada wake up, Dragon Kid puffed out his small chest and adopted a gallant posture. Unfortunately for him, Ada paid him little attention. As soon as she woke up, she turned her head and saw Su Yu. Immediately, she hopped up, exclaiming, "You found the Crystal Essence?" Her exhaustion gave way to a sudden burst of vitality.
Su Yu smiled and nodded, relieved to see Ada had regained her energy.
Dragon Kid was frustrated. Despite his loud protests, Ada only glanced at him before looking down at Wolf Head, who was still being stepped on. "You brute, I can’t stand you." With a leap, she jumped onto Su Yu’s shoulder.
Ada’s words hit Dragon Kid like an arrow, leaving him dumbfounded. In his heart, bitterness welled up. He began to stomp on Wolf Head more violently, accusing, "It’s all your fault, all you!"
Trampled miserably, Wolf Head grumbled, "You can...beat me...but you can’t insult me...don’t stomp...on my face...I am a...Category 5 Lifeform..."
Crouching on Su Yu’s shoulder, Ada interrupted before Dragon Kid could continue his assault. "He’s right. We Category 5 Lifeforms are noble beings, the beings closest to perfection. You can kill him, but you can’t insult him. You’re behaving like a child."
Her words, yet another arrow, pierced Dragon Kid, leaving him frozen in awkwardness.
Ada then turned to Wolf Head and said, "Remember, you’re a noble being, closest to perfection. Your Master of Companion is already dead. Although you won’t die immediately, you clearly don’t belong to this epoch..."
"Thank...you...I understand now..." Wolf Head responded weakly, then struggled to rise and slowly crawled away. Dragon Kid watched him leave but made no move to stop him. Instead, he looked at Ada, now sitting on Su Yu’s shoulder.
Although Ada was newly born and far less evolved than Dragon Kid or Wolf Head, in that moment, Dragon Kid felt an inexplicable aura of nobility emanating from her, as if he had to look up to her.
"How...how is this possible..." Dragon Kid shook his head, dispelling the incredulous thought. "My Dragon Flame is a symbol of advanced and noble Category 5 Lifeforms. Ada’s black flame... what could it possibly be? Could it be even more noble than my Dragon Flame? Impossible." He mentally denied the possibility, but the strange feeling he had experienced was deeply imprinted in his mind.
Wolf Head slowly crawled to the edge of the Crystal Pile. He looked back at Ada one last time with gratitude in his eyes, then let out a soft shriek, put all his strength into one leap, and plunged into the lava below, disappearing instantly.
Surprised, Su Yu asked, "Did he just kill himself?"
Ada slowly replied, "No. We Category 5 Lifeforms would never stoop to suicide like lower life forms. His Master of Companion is dead, so he’s just altering his form, giving up this epoch’s path of evolution, and entering a deep sleep. In the next few years, he will find a new Master of Companion and be reborn as a new Category 5 Lifeform. However, that will be a matter of another epoch - if there will be another one."
Su Yu’s eyes suddenly brightened. "The next epoch? You mean the Solar Epoch?"
Ada hummed softly, looked at him, and then answered, "That’s the language of the Mayans. You can view it as an epoch...or a cycle."
Ada’s cryptic words made Su Yu frown slightly. Unlike the boastful Dragon Kid, Ada was more reserved with her words. Su Yu was aware they had to respect certain taboos and hence refrained from pushing any further, knowing that she would tell him everything in due time. He was vividly aware of the bond they shared; if the Master of Companion died, its lifeform suffered a similar fate, as was the case with Wolf Head.
"Ada, have you fully recovered?" Su Yu asked.
"Yes, I’m completely healed, and I’ve reached the first phase of growth. I can now unleash our combined power once a day." Ada sounded rather exhilarated.
"The first stage of growth?" Su Yu was about to ask when Dragon Kid, with no sense of propriety, chimed in proudly, "I’ve already evolved to the third stage of growth and am able to execute three combination attacks every day."
Ada shot him a glance and coldly said, "What’s there to gloat about? You’re so superficial."
"Um..." Dragon Kid was speechless, regretting his loose tongue.
Su Yu asked, "How many stages can you evolve to in total?"
"After the ninth stage, the growth phase ends and we reach maturity," Ada replied.
Fang Jiong interjected, "Ada, you said that once you’ve recovered your strength, you can send us back to our original world. Is that true? Can you send us back to our original world now?"
"Yes, are you ready to return to the Forest World?" Ada immediately stood up straight.
"Huh?" Fang Jiong was taken aback, and Su Yu looked at Ada, "What you mean by sending us back to our original world... is to send us back to that Forest World?"
"Yes, what else could you have thought?" Ada asked, puzzled.
Su Yu, Fang Jiong, and the others looked at each other. They had just realized there was a misunderstanding. By the ’original world,’ they were referring to the familiar Earth, whereas Ada’s ’original world’ was the Forest World they had stayed in before they entered the Fire Elemental World.
Fang Jiong said, "We’re talking about the Earth we left behind. Is it in your power to return us there?"
Ada shook her head and looked at him as if he was an oddity, "Return there? We’ll talk about that once I have evolved to maturity."
Unable to resist, Su Yu gave a bitter smile. As expected, returning to their original world wasn’t going to be as simple as they hoped.
Meng Ting came over and said, "Su Yu, you guys have already found the Crystal Essence. What are your plans now? Have you found a place to live?"
It turned out that Ada did not currently have the ability to send them back to their original world, and no one knew when it would evolve into its mature form.
Especially after hearing Dragon Kid’s Mayan Prophecy, Su Yu’s desire to go back to his old world had diminished a lot since there was a possibility that, within two years, all of Earth’s humanity might be plunged into this world. Gradually, he was more concerned with how to survive in this world, figure out the true purpose of this world, and even started preparing for a huge disaster that might occur in two years.
If what Dragon Kid said was true, and that an apocalypse would really happen in two years, after humanity was completely informed about this world, how could he find his family? How could he protect them? How could he ensure their survival in this world? Su Yu had all these thoughts flashing through his mind.
As he stayed longer in this world and learned more about it, his thoughts slowly changed. If humanity’s ultimate fate was to be entirely plunged into this world, what was the point of longing for Earth? Two years later, wouldn’t they still be sent to this world? It would be better to take advantage of these two years, before others arrived in this world, to form a foundation and establish a foothold.
Upon hearing Meng Ting’s question, Su Yu shook his head, his face displaying a helpless and bitter smile. "We basically know nothing about this world. We’ve been wandering in the Forest World, then we coincidentally ran into Ada who brought us here."
He had long noticed that Meng Ting intended to draw them in. Of course, Meng Ting was interested in their strength. Although they weren’t very strong, they had more than a dozen people and all had considerable potential for development. The forthright choices made by Meng Ting and her group – where they even lost a member because of Su Yu’s group – made it clear that they were worth building an alliance with, even if Su Yu didn’t fully understand them yet.
In this unknown world, allying temporarily with a certain faction sounded like a good solution. Su Yu even intended to rely on them in order to learn more about this world.
Hearing Su Yu’s response, Meng Ting nodded. She had basically guessed Su Yu and his companions’ situation. From the worn-out condition of their clothes and the large bags of food they carried, it was clear that Su Yu was telling the truth. It was precisely because Su Yu and his group were wandering alone without belonging to any faction, that Meng Ting was so keen to pull them into her own strength.
After hearing Su Yu’s answer, Meng Ting formally invited Su Yu and his companions to join them on their journey. Su Yu agreed without a second thought as both parties had reasons to rely on each other. (To be continued.
