Chapter 1342: Chapter 998: Final Battlefield (Request for Monthly Pass)_2
The God of the Rules nodded slightly.
"Where is he now, and why has only the Warlord Banner appeared?" The man felt a sense of foreboding but was compelled to ask.
The God of the Rules sighed softly and shook his head, "The Warlord... has already fallen, in the last battle. It was his sacrifice that allowed us to claim victory in that fight..."
"It can’t be, the Warlord... he couldn’t possibly have fallen..." The Warlord’s servant couldn’t help but open his eyes wide and cry out, how could such a great being possibly have fallen?
"The Warlord Banner appeared here alone, could there be any falsehood in that?" The God of the Rules said in silence, "All things considered, I too am indebted to the Warlord’s kindness. Since you are the ones the Warlord Banner wishes to protect... I will not pursue my own interests further... Enough, when I think about it now, all these struggles... seem so meaningless..."
At this point, the two flames in his eyes fell back upon Beth Finley, the Master of Rules.
"I returned from the distant battlefield for you, with the sole purpose of saving you from the destruction of the starry universe. On that Final Battlefield, perhaps I will be the next one to die..."
His voice grew very low, as if he had much to say, and he shook his head slightly. Su Yu couldn’t help but interrupt, "What do you mean by the ’Final Battlefield’?"
The Warlord’s servant already roared, "It’s not possible, the Warlord couldn’t possibly have fallen, you say he fell somewhere, but without seeing it with my own eyes, I will never believe it."
The God of the Rules looked at the Warlord’s servant’s howls, considered for a moment, and then said with a heavy heart, "That place, we call ’the Final Battlefield’... It is the last world we need to defend. Should it fall, everything will end. You wouldn’t understand, for countless eons, my ancestors, many mighty warriors of various races... They have sacrificed too much to defend it..."
"That place, it’s not somewhere you are capable of reaching. Even I am but a foot soldier there, and though only a soldier, I have always done my utmost to fight... If you truly wish to go there, at the very least, you must reach my level, achieve the status of a True God... only then will you have the qualification."
The words of the God of the Rules shook Su Yu and the others deeply.
"The Final Battlefield?" A battlefield only True Gods are qualified to enter? The last world that needs to be defended? What then, are they defending against?
Amongst all this, the impact on Su Yu was undoubtedly the strongest, for he was on the cusp of achieving true divinity.
"Among you, the only one who might... the only one soon to obtain that qualification, is him..." The God of the Rules pointed directly at Su Yu as he spoke.
"What in the world is going on?" Su Yu wanted to ask more, but the God of the Rules shook his head and said indifferently, "Once you become a True God, you will naturally understand the matter of the Final Battlefield. Perhaps, we may meet again there."
Having said this, he suddenly stretched out his hand, and the Spear of Orthodoxy flew out swiftly, "whoosh," penetrating the ground in front of Beth Finley. Following that, the Absolute Shield that Su Yu had blasted away tore through the sky and crashed down next to Beth Finley.
"I give you the Spear of Orthodoxy and the Absolute Shield. I will also impart to you the methods to wield them... I’ll give you some time. If you want to live, use your utmost ability to adapt and employ these two divine artifacts... When I return victorious from the next battle, I will come back again; and if by then, you cannot fully unleash the power of these two artifacts, you will only die at my hands... This is the chance I’m giving you; remember this, Beth Finley."
Beth Finley stood stunned, staring dumbfounded at the two divine artifacts on the ground, listening as the wave of sound directly entered her ears, encoding the true methods to use these artifacts. That voice, only Beth Finley could hear.
The God of the Rules, had he gone mad? Why would he entrust both of these artifacts to her, and also impart the true methods to manipulate them? What... what was he thinking?
After the transmission, the God of the Rules looked deeply at Beth Finley one last time, and suddenly, his figure flickered and vanished from everyone’s sight.
The nearly a hundred people he had resurrected fell down collectively following his departure, once again losing the breath of life.
The dead, even if they were true gods, could not possibly be brought back to life for real. Even if life were indeed bestowed upon them, they would no longer be who they once were.
"The Final Battlefield... only true gods are qualified to enter... The Golden Emperor, after teaching me how to harness the energy of stars, also spoke of something similar. He said he was going to fight, to buy us time... Could it be that the Final Battlefield the Golden Emperor spoke of is the same one where the Warlord... also fell?"
Su Yu murmured to himself, "If such a place really exists, then who are the enemies that the true gods are battling against? What role do those in blue robes play in this... the destruction of the starry universe... that snake-tailed abomination of an infant... that abandoned laboratory... what does all of this represent..."
Su Yu found it all incomprehensible, while the Warlord’s servant beside him just stood there dumbfounded, staring at the "Warlord Banner" planted in the ground, seemingly unable to accept the news that the Warlord, his once-master, had truly perished.
Yet, the Warlord Banner was the Warlord’s weapon, never to be separated from him. Now, the Warlord Banner was still here, but the Warlord... was he truly gone?
"Since the Warlord Statue brought us here and now even the Warlord Banner has appeared, perhaps this world really has some connection to the Warlord."
Ada calmed down and expressed his own opinion, "No matter what, we should thoroughly search this place first. Perhaps we’ll stumble upon something unexpected."
The Warlord’s servant nodded repeatedly, wanting to pull out the Warlord Banner that was stuck in the earth, but found it immovable, completely unable to extract it.
"Yi..."
The Warlord’s servant tried several times, but then shook his head and gave up.
The Master of Rules’ mind was filled with thoughts of training in the "Spear of Orthodoxy" and the "Absolute Shield." After picking up these two weapons from the ground, he suddenly flew off alone toward the distance.
"Hey, what are you going to do?"
"Train, and nobody disturb me." The cold voice of the Master of Rules came from afar, leaving them all astounded.
At Ada’s suggestion, everyone combined forces, spreading their powerful Divine Sense far and wide. However, they found nothing special, except that the energy in this world was very abundant and well-suited for training.
"Could it be that the Warlord Statue brought us here without any other purpose, simply because there are no other creatures here and it’s a suitable place to stay temporarily?"
Zhang Zhongmou thought of a possibility.
"Mhm, it’s very likely to be the case. Maybe we’re overthinking things. It’s already quite nice for the Warlord’s ancestor to have prepared such a decent world for us, at least giving us a place to stay for the time being. It’s certainly better than aimlessly wandering outside without a clue."
Zhao Shichang also supported Zhang Zhongmou’s viewpoint.
Su Yu stood silently to one side, gazing at the Warlord Statue and at the Warlord Banner in front of it. His mind involuntarily went back to the times he had knelt before the Warlord Statue, even attempting to comprehend a hint of the Zhen Di, but his heart had been elsewhere, unable to settle down. Only when leaving did he feel as though he had vaguely grasped something. Now, observing the Warlord Statue once again, Su Yu’s realm had completely changed. Inside him, the Giant Will had merged with his soul, causing a qualitative change, but it was this last step he could not take. Stuck beyond this barrier, he could not even activate the power of the Giant Will; otherwise, he wouldn’t have struggled so much in his battle against the God of the Rules.
His mind flooded with various thoughts, the others around him were discussing the possible purpose of the Warlord Statue bringing them to this world. Meanwhile, Su Yu, who was standing in front of the Warlord Statue, mumbled to himself absentmindedly and inadvertently reached out, his hand landing on the Warlord Banner.
The Warlord’s servant suddenly looked up in astonishment, his face showing a shocked expression; because, in his befuddlement, Su Yu touched the Warlord Banner and, with a casual pull, effortlessly drew out the "Warlord Banner" that the servant had just unsuccessfully struggled to extract.(To be continued.
