Chapter 112: Chapter 110: Poisonous River

"Steel Spear, this is the new power I’ve realized." Ma Ziye’s expression was one of dissatisfaction as she suddenly threw the Steel Spear she was holding.

With a ’swish’, the Steel Spear flew out heavily and hit a dirt wall, nailing itself into it with at least half of the spear shaft embedded within.

"That’s pretty impressive. In the future, you can use ’Steel Web’ to trap monsters, then kill them with this Steel Spear. They are a perfect match when used together." Zhang Zhongmou thought for a bit, and made a remark.

Ma Ziye glared at him and said, "Perfect match? There’s no special power in my arm. Although my strength has increased by two or three times compared to before, if I encounter a monster of the same level or even more terrifying, even if I have the Steel Spear in my hand, it probably won’t work at all. If the opponent just touches it casually, I will let go of the spear. This skill is simply like chicken ribs - utterly useless." Ma Ziye responded with a face full of frustration.

Zhao Shichang nodded secretly. His own special power was in his right arm. After his right arm had mutated into a blade, its power was extremely terrifying. The speed and strength were far incomparable to Ma Ziye wielding the Steel Spear. After Ma Ziye had evolved to the Second-Level, the new power she had obtained did indeed seem like chicken ribs.

Qin Jiagui watched from the side, strangely feeling neither pity nor sorrow for Ma Ziye, but a sense of satisfaction instead.

Perhaps he had always seen her as a competitor, so seeing her receive such a useless ability brought him a sense of joy in her misfortune?

Qin Jiagui immediately blamed himself for having such mean thoughts.

Seeing Ma Ziye’s frustration, Zhang Zhongmou laughed and said, "Don’t be like this. I think it’s still quite useful."

Ma Ziye sighed, "Unless...unless there is a powerful special power in my right arm... only then can the strength of the ’Steel Spear’ be fully utilized."

Zhang Zhongmou had a thought, "That might not be impossible." He thought back to when Su Yu had advanced to the Third Level, didn’t the scales on his body suddenly extend from his left arm to his chest?

Ma Ziye glanced at him, shook her head and said nothing more. The Steel Spear she had thrown disappeared slowly into thin air. The steel strands wrapped around her right leg also disappeared, returning her leg back to normal.

By now, everyone had come down. Seeing Ma Ziye also advancing to the Second Level, everyone was envious yet happy as the stronger their teammates, the more secure their safety would be. Though Su Yu was presently in a coma, two Second-Level Black Iron Warriors had emerged in the team which greatly boosted everyone’s confidence.

The slope below was filled with scattered stones, among which there was a stream. When everyone got closer, they found that the water in the stream showed a jade-like color, definitely not ordinary stream water.

Everyone looked at each other. No one dared to test it easily. Zhao Shichang took a hand of the monster Ma Ziye had killed, and tried it out in the stream.

Qin Jiagui frowned slightly, wondering what could be tested from dipping the arm in the water. True enough, there was no reaction. Zhao Shichang discarded the arm, thought for a second, and reached into the water with his bone knife instead.

As soon as the bone knife went into the water, Zhao Shichang immediately grunted, retracting his hand. The previously snow-white blade had turned pitch black at the tip.

"Such deadly poison." Everyone looked on in surprise, and quickly moved away from the stream.

Zhao Shichang’s expression was a bit grim, but fortunate for him, the special power inside him began to work, slowly causing the black color on the knife tip to fade.

Since the water was poisonous, everyone decided to give up staying in the vicinity. Zhang Zhongmou looked at Qin Jiagui and asked, "Which way do we go next?"

After looking around, Qin Jiagui finally pointed in the direction the stream flowed, and said, "Let’s go along this direction, we should be heading in the right way."

Zhang Zhongmou immediately carried Su Yu on his back, and the others picked up the food bags on the ground. Everyone started to move along the stream. After walking a while, they came across a deep pool filled with the greenish poisonous water they had seen earlier. The stream ended here, flowing into the pool, and beyond this pool was a long and dark canyon.

Qin Jiagui was nodding continuously, his face excited as he said, "Good, it’s this canyon. The map shows this canyon. We are on the right track, can’t be wrong, let’s go."

He immediately picked up speed and headed forward.

Seeing Qin Jiagui’s confidence, the others were also excited. They moved into the canyon and followed for a while before suddenly hearing faint screams in the distance.

"Hey, did you hear that? It sounds like something is screaming?" Zhao Shichang quickly commented with a serious face.

Ma Ziye replied with a grunt, "I think I heard it too." But when they listened again, they heard nothing but the sound of the wind through the canyon.

Qin Jiagui furrowed his brows and asked, "No, did any of you hear anything?"

The others all shook their heads in denial, agreeing they hadn’t heard anything. Only Ma Ziye and Zhao Shichang claimed they had.

Qin Jiagui hadn’t heard anything, but the fact that it was Zhao Shichang and Ma Ziye, who were both at the Second-Level, making the claim, created some doubts. Could they both have been wrong? Qin Jiagui remained cautiously skeptical.

"Never mind, maybe I just heard wrong. Let’s go." Zhao Shichang continued, becoming more brave and proactive since becoming a Second-Level Black Iron Warrior.

"Let’s go." Qin Jiagui thought for a moment, quickly following Zhao Shichang but remaining vigilant.

As they ventured deeper, the valley walls on both sides got higher, making the path darker and darker. Soon, everyone smelled blood in the air. Everyone was startled as they rounded a rock pile and came across a pile of monster corpses.

The monsters resembled robost but had black scales and a tail over a meter long. They were scattered haphazardly, with various different fatal wounds across their bodies. Some had been sliced open, others had their brains destroyed, and a few were charred black as if struck by fire or lightning.

The entire ground was stained with splattered blood, as if narrating the horrific and intense battle that had once taken place here.

Everyone exchanged glances and looked over to see four figures seated under a huge pile of rocks not too far away from the valley. One person was sitting alone on top of the rocks. His clothes fluttered in the mountain breeze, giving an impression of solitude and pride.

When they saw these five people, their hands were bloody, picking up thinly sliced pieces of raw meat and putting them into their mouths. Beside them, a dissected monster lay with its four limbs flayed, its flesh sliced away. Unmistakably, the blood-stained meat these five were consuming was from this monster.
