A Cultivator in the World Dominated By Awakeners -
Chapter 40: Special Protein
Chapter 40: Special Protein
In midair, enraged, the frog suddenly spewed its stomach acid.
However, it didn’t aim at Oliver, but at one of his shadow clones.
It truly couldn’t tell which one was the real him.
If that’s the case... Oliver thought, stepping forward with Void Step—appearing directly behind the frog.
Shua! Shua!
He slashed twice at its thigh, severing its legs from its body.
As it fell, the frog lay helpless, unable to stand.
There were other undead nearby. The moment they saw the situation, they swarmed the frog and tore it apart.
With no legs and no tongue, the frog was like a mosquito without wings—completely powerless.
Only after the frog was dead did Ivy and the others arrive.
"So it was just a frog," they chuckled, having initially assumed it was some terrifying monster.
"Did you level up to 9?" Oliver asked Ivy.
"Yes, I did!" she nodded.
"Just one more level to go..."
Oliver then turned his gaze to the river where the frog had been hiding.
He sensed no other monsters nearby—it seemed the frog had devoured everything, leaving no fish behind.
But perhaps in other areas, there would be more.
"Let’s follow the river," Oliver said.
"Okay..." Ivy followed without hesitation.
Oliver took the lead, continuously spreading out his Void Sense, anticipating any ambush.
However, instead of an ambush, he detected someone running toward them in panic.
Ivy and the others hadn’t noticed him yet—only a few moments later did they see him.
He was a young man, seemingly their age—likely a newly awakened individual this month, though not from their school. Perhaps he had awakened early.
There was nothing striking about his appearance, except for his hands, which seemed to be coated in iron—or rather, his skin had transformed into iron.
He shouldn’t be weak, already at Level 8.
Seeing a group ahead—even though most of them had human heads with undead bodies—he still looked relieved.
"Hey! Help me!" he shouted.
As he appeared, everyone quickly saw what was chasing him.
A massive swan was sprinting behind him. It stood about 7 meters tall, but its neck stretched up to 15 meters.
Its entire body was snow white. Although it didn’t appear especially strong, it clearly emitted dangerous light energy, illuminating the darkness of the night.
"What level is that swan?" the others wondered aloud—and Oliver received a notification:
(Monster Level 13!)
This one was two levels higher than the previous gorilla.
As it flapped its wings, it began to take flight—though not very high.
From its open beak, a glowing orb of light began to form, expanding rapidly.
Whoosh!
It suddenly launched toward the fleeing man—who, unfortunately, was running right toward Oliver and the others.
The ball of light grew even larger as it approached.
"Grandpa! Use the Death Ball skill!" Ivy shouted.
Henry Wilson reacted immediately. He raised his hand, alongside the Undead King Ivy controlled.
Even Ivy herself poured energy into both the Undead King and her grandfather.
In front of their hands, dark energy gathered, merging together into a ball as large as the incoming light orb.
But Ivy didn’t stop there.
Suddenly, another Undead King appeared beside her grandfather, also raising its hand to release more dark energy.
It seemed that after reaching Level 9, Ivy had gained the ability to control two undead kings at once.
With three undeads channeling power, the dark orb grew even larger than the light one.
From behind, Oliver couldn’t deny the overwhelming pressure coming from the dark ball.
If he were caught in that, he feared he might be seriously injured—if not killed outright.
Whoosh!
The dark orb soared forward to meet the light orb.
When they collided, they didn’t explode—instead, they began to merge, seemingly trying to consume one another.
However, the dark orb had the upper hand—it quickly overwhelmed and absorbed the light.
The giant swan was visibly stunned.
It attempted to fly higher to escape—but the dark orb chased it into the sky.
Of course, it couldn’t stay airborne forever.
Its legs eventually sank into the dark orb, which instantly disintegrated its white feathers into falling black plumes.
At the same time, Oliver saw the skull-shaped pendant on Ivy’s chest glowing—emitting a transparent black light.
Within that light, strange and terrifying shadowy creatures began to appear. Some looked like ghosts, others like wicked witches.
Amazingly, they could fly—and they rushed straight toward the falling swan.
Their target: its head.
They entered its skull, disrupting its mind.
So that’s the artifact’s power... It gets stronger when fed with Death Energy, Oliver thought.
Just as he was about to assist Ivy, he noticed that the man being chased by the swan had activated his portal.
He was planning to escape—after using them as bait to deal with the swan.
There was no way Oliver would let that happen.
He was convinced the man had stolen something from the swan.
The man had a Storage Ring, so he could easily hide it.
Oliver used Void Step, appearing beside him and grabbing his wrist.
"You?" the man exclaimed, stunned.
Then, he threw a punch at Oliver’s face.
But Oliver’s head became void, and the man’s fist passed right through—causing him to lose his hand.
His face froze in horror.
"Hand over what you stole. We’re the ones fighting the swan—it’s rightfully ours," Oliver said coldly.
Without waiting, he snatched the Storage Ring from the man’s finger.
"How dare you!" the man shouted, eyes burning with fury.
Oliver no longer cared. He kicked him into his portal.
What he had done might not be noble—but he despised being used.
If the man had any kind of powerful background, then he’d just have to rely on his teacher later.
The portal disappeared after the man was forced inside, and Oliver now held the Storage Ring.
He finally peeked at what was inside.
There was a sharp iron spear, clearly a Tier 2 weapon.
Then, there were numerous Magical Energy Drinks, probably around ten liters in total.
That alone was worth more than $20,000.
But the most eye-catching item was a large golden egg, which had already cracked—golden fluid seeping out of it.
Thankfully, the ring’s interior was in a frozen state, preventing the liquid from spilling further.
(White Swan Boss Egg — Can be raised or processed into food. Contains 3,000 units of Special Protein!)
