A Cultivator in the World Dominated By Awakeners -
Chapter 34: Fishing
Chapter 34: Fishing
"Damn you!" Alex cursed, unable to hide his jealousy.
"Anyway, my dad’s asking when you can work again. There are a lot of cars that need fixing at his garage. I don’t know what to tell him. Are you still willing to work after reaching the Third Stage of Cultivation?" Alex continued.
"I just advanced again. I’m now at the Fourth Stage, so of course I won’t be doing labor work anymore," Oliver replied.
"You?" Alex nearly stumbled at the revelation.
"I’d rather go fishing than work as a laborer," Oliver added before walking away.
Alex quickly followed behind him.
"You want to go fishing?" he asked, confused.
"Yeah, I want to relax. I think fishing is the best option. Maybe I’ll get some inspiration to improve my understanding," Oliver answered.
It was his hobby, and he knew fishing brought a unique sense of joy—maybe even more than many other things.
Though he didn’t bring his rod, he planned to buy a new one—something truly durable so he could catch bigger fish this time.
This wasn’t like before when he only went after the small ones.
Coincidentally, the city had a large river running through it, known for its abundant fish due to well-maintained habitats. Many fish from the Chaotic World had even been released into it—types that wouldn’t evolve into monsters.
Along the riverbanks, many anglers sat under tents provided long ago by the government. Numerous fishing gear shops surrounded the area.
Oliver entered one and bought a high-quality rod with a large auto-locking hook system that ensured the fish wouldn’t escape. Even the line he picked could supposedly haul up a truck.
After that, he bought some small fish as bait.
Alex didn’t have an interest in fishing, so he just tagged along, planning to watch.
Rather than staying by the riverbank, Oliver chose to fish from a bridge.
It made it easier to cast into the middle of the river.
It wasn’t forbidden, as the bridge was actually designed with fishing spots for anglers.
Since his target was a big fish, Oliver wasn’t even sure he’d catch one.
To him, this was more of a side activity.
As he sat atop the bridge, his thoughts began to focus on understanding the Absolute Fusion Technique.
At first, he was calm, but then his expression started shifting.
’It’s difficult, but still within my reach. But this might take a long time,’ he thought, reaching a small conclusion as he began seriously studying the technique.
’Even if I drink the rest of that wine, it probably won’t help since I have no foundation in this technique yet.’
Unfortunately, patience was a bit hard for him. He had only just begun his cultivation journey but had already progressed so much.
"Oliver! Oliver! Your bait’s being eaten!"
Suddenly, he heard Alex shout while he was still deep in thought.
That pulled him back to reality, and his eyes snapped to his rod, which was now bent sharply.
"So fast," he muttered.
He hadn’t expected a bite so soon—just a few minutes since casting his bait.
He quickly stood and began reeling it in, drawing the attention of others nearby.
Everyone began watching him.
Oliver wasn’t a rookie when it came to fishing. Even though he normally went after small fish, it didn’t mean he didn’t know how to handle a big one.
With his cultivation at the Fourth Stage, what should’ve been a struggle was now fairly easy for him.
The fish began surfacing—a massive black fish nearly two meters long.
It looked like a monster, thrashing wildly in the water, forcing the other anglers to lift their lines.
"Hahahaha..." Oliver couldn’t help but laugh, enjoying the thrill of battling the massive fish that sent vibrations through his rod.
If he brought this one home, he could feed an entire neighborhood.
"Kid, not bad!" A familiar voice suddenly rang out while he was wrestling with the fish, stunning him.
When he looked back, he saw Evylin, accompanied by Lisa, stepping out of a sleek black sports car. Lisa was carrying a large bag filled with rods while Evylin wore a cowboy hat, top buttons of her shirt undone, and was smoking like always.
From their appearance, it looked like they hadn’t just arrived but had switched spots after failing to catch the fish they were after.
Oliver hadn’t expected his teacher to have a hobby like this.
He wasn’t even sure how to respond while his hands were busy holding onto the rod.
Alex, on the other hand, was captivated by Evylin’s appearance—what he saw as a cool, stylish tomboy beauty.
He had no idea this was the same woman Oliver called the strongest Cultivator in Britain, and he could only feel envious that Oliver seemed to attract beautiful women from all walks of life, even mature ones like this lady, who was clearly in her 30s.
At this moment, the fish began rising above the water, making it easier for Oliver to reel it in—it had apparently lost much of its energy.
The spectators could only watch in awe as Oliver lifted the fish, which was even bigger than he was.
If it were them, they’d need a boat to haul something that size.
After a while, the massive fish finally made it onto the bridge.
Fiuuh!
Oliver let out a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, he’d used a high-end rod, line, and hook—otherwise, lifting that fish would’ve been impossible.
He glanced at Evylin, who was now studying the fish he’d just caught.
"Master, I didn’t expect to see you here too," he said.
"What?" Alex perked up at the word.
"You don’t mind if I fish in your spot, do you?" Evylin asked in response, not hiding that she too wanted to catch a fish like that.
"This river doesn’t belong to me. How could I mind?" Oliver replied.
"I meant if it were yours," Evylin said with a grin.
Oliver rolled his eyes, forced to clear his throat lightly.
His teacher could be pretty sarcastic at times.
"I’d never be such a disloyal disciple," he answered.
"You’re too serious." Evylin flicked his ear with a smile, as if holding back laughter.
Of course, she was just joking, finding it amusing how serious her disciple always was.
"Lisa, let’s go!" she then called, walking toward the edge of the bridge.
Lisa handed her a rod, and she sat at the edge of the bridge, legs dangling down as she cast her line.
A woman’s charm could overpower everything. The other anglers stopped looking at the giant fish Oliver had caught and instead turned their attention to Evylin’s striking presence. After all, women like her were rare.
Oliver, of course, couldn’t ignore his fish. It was starting to move again, seemingly trying to escape back into the river. He needed to act fast—he stored it in his Observation Ring.
Even if it died, at least it wouldn’t rot. He couldn’t think of a better way to bring it back on his own.
