A Crazy Love Proposal
Chapter 248 - 248 132 Crossing Boundaries to Show Love

Chapter 248: Chapter 132 Crossing Boundaries to Show Love Chapter 248: Chapter 132 Crossing Boundaries to Show Love She stood under the shade of the trees, draped in patches of shadows, only her bright eyes visible, “Then why don’t you tell me what the reality is?”

Not far away, there was a hubbub of voices, the lights had just been turned on, and high walls separated the tourists from the passersby. Their voices carried over from a distance, making the two of them seem even quieter, as if engulfed by the autumn night.

Wen Yangzhi stood before her, against the light. His tall figure was rimmed with a brilliant afterglow. Because he had drunk some alcohol, his speech was languorous:

“I haven’t had any contact with her since I was seventeen. When she was twenty, there was a big crowd of us together, and during Truth or Dare I ended up having to dance with her—it was indeed in New York, and it was indeed on a rooftop, but it wasn’t my intention.”

She suddenly lost her anger:

“What about your twentieth birthday then?”

He stood nearly a meter away from her, with boundlessness of the night around them, “She made up an excuse to make me think I had lost some important documents of hers. I went back to my alma mater and found them, took the plane on the same day to deliver them to her, only to find out upon arrival that she had taken things into her own hands by organizing a birthday party.”

His hair hung down naturally, swaying cleanly and lazily at the tips in the evening breeze, “At that time, she said she still really liked me, really wanted to marry me, said I was the only person she was willing to marry. In order to refuse her, I told her that I wouldn’t get married. She probably held a grudge for that, resenting me for getting married, hence she stepped in.”

Yun Yuwan wasn’t immediately relieved but followed up with a question, “What do you mean by not getting married?”

“What do you want to ask?” His eyelids were half-raised.

She stood in the wind, voicing the things she had noticed recently with some cautious probing:

“Does it mean you won’t marry anyone, or does it mean you won’t marry Wan Hui?”

Wen Yangzhi’s gaze was unfathomable, “Can marry.”

But she didn’t believe him.

If he could marry, why would his attitude be like this?

Her recent attempts at probing about marriage had all been rejected by him. Even tonight’s marriage proposal was a show put on for someone else.

He would rather help her with the charade than actually honor the commitment.

Her heart was a tangle of chaos, stirring up feelings of melancholy:

“Is it my fault, that you’re unwilling to talk about marrying me now?”

Wen Yangzhi’s attitude was hazy, blending into the fullness of the night, “It’s not.”

Yet she persisted in pressing the issue, “If you say you can marry, why can’t it be now?”

But he didn’t respond with the reason why they couldn’t get married right now; he only pondered for a moment, “Let’s go, we’re going home.”

He went to take her hand.

But she stepped back two paces, insisting on an answer, “I’m not going home, I want you to explain it clearly.”

Wen Yangzhi seemed somewhat intoxicated, the palm of his hand resting lightly against his forehead, his thumb and middle finger rubbing his temples slightly, his voice listless and defeated, “Do you really need to hear it?”

Yun Yuwan felt that this truth was most likely not a good thing, and it might be a reality she could not face.

But being kept in the dark wasn’t good for her either.

She always wanted to know her lover’s truest thoughts about her, even if it would be a blow:

“I don’t want to be unaware of everything. Ever since being with you, I’m always in the dark about what you think. I want to know now.”

He stood still in the evening wind gazing at her, and finally, with a calm voice yet heavy, he delivered a blow, “The ‘can marry’ I mentioned, does not include you.”

Yun Yuwan’s heart suddenly sank, “What do you mean, it doesn’t include me?”

Wen Yangzhi was calm, “Exactly what it says.”

Her heart felt so cold it seemed unable to pump blood as if she’d glimpsed Wen Yangzhi’s long-standing view of her.

Maybe it was her own wishful thinking, assuming that being in a relationship could make her the other half of a bank director, clueless and assuming there wouldn’t be considerations of social status between them. In reality, it was her misbelief that she could qualify. He had never considered her a part of his marital criteria:

“Do you shun me because my social standing is far too inferior to yours, and I can’t help you?”

He denied decisively, “That’s not it.”

Yun Yuwan felt her heart was aching inside her body, “Or is it because I’m always throwing tantrums, which you always have to soothe?”

He denied it once more, “It’s not that either.”

Yun Yuwan gripped her bag strap tightly, “Then what does it mean?”

He simply reminded her, “If you really need to hear it, based on your personality, from tonight on, we can’t go back.”

But at this point, how could they act as if nothing had happened?

What could be worse than this?

She moved forward deliberately pressing for an answer, “If today it was Zhou Fei, someone well-matched in social and financial status, marrying you, would that also be unacceptable?”

But she heard him say, “Zhou Fei can.”
