Yun Yuwan was confused, because she had seen Wen Yangzhi getting along with him, and they seemed quite harmonious. She couldn’t see any issues, “Why, did he trip you up?”
“I hate him, he always leaves the restroom without washing his hands. I really hate it when he touches my things in my office.” He leaned on her shoulder, feeling aggrieved, “He’s dirty.”
“Oh.” Yun Yuwan closed her eyes for a moment, desperately holding back laughter.
Wen Yangzhi complained, “He really is so dirty.”
“Indeed, he’s dirty; I’ll keep my distance from him in the future.” Yun Yuwan mused internally.
Wen Yangzhi rambled on about several men in a confused manner.
Yun Yuwan held back laughter, “Why don’t you talk about the girls?”
Wen Yangzhi was dazed but whispered softly, “I don’t judge women.”
His eyes were half-open.
Yun Yuwan also remembered that she had indeed never heard him comment on any women.
It’s rare for a man to still have manners when he’s drunk.
Yun Yuwan finally coaxed him into getting up, trying to get him to go to sleep.
He walked inside, holding his forehead.
Yun Yuwan was only watching him and didn’t watch her step; she tripped over the carpet and fell on it.
She couldn’t get up for a while because her bottom was numb from the fall. As a result, Wen Yangzhi thought she wanted to sleep on the floor.
He staggered out of the study with a large, fluffy carpet.
He laid the carpet next to Yun Yuwan, close to her.
Clearly, he still wanted to straighten the carpet properly at that moment.
But he was unsteady, and while he managed to lay out the top left corner properly, his feet would kick the bottom left corner askew. After several failed attempts, he finally lost his temper, stamped his bare foot hard on the carpet, then the big monster rolled on the ground and fell asleep.
Next to him, Yun Yuwan: “…”
Lying so big on the ground, tall and strong, Yun Yuwan exerted a lot of effort to help him up from the floor to the bed.
After getting him onto the bed, she even rested on his thigh for a good while before recovering.
Meanwhile, in the wardrobe, Wen Yangzhi recalled last night and finally fell silent.
Yun Yuwan finally realized that Wen Yangzhi also had many emotions, but he deliberately didn’t show them, “Brother, are you Mount Fuji? Looking calm with a layer of snow, but inside, it’s all magma.”
He stood in front of the dressing mirror, his long, fair fingers resting on his tie, one hand against the tie’s knot, fingertips lightly holding the Windsor knot, slowly pushing it up, creating a perfect dimple below the knot.
He looked down slightly, and his Adam’s apple met his crisp collar; finally, he said in a low voice:
“Go freshen up. After freshening up, come downstairs for breakfast.”
His tone was so calm, as if nothing had happened; Yun Yuwan made a funny face at him, to which he responded with a light chuckle, “How long do you plan to keep laughing?”
Yun Yuwan chirped, “Until you get old.”
…
Early in the morning, Zhao Qin was clearing her head in the garden when she looked up and, without meaning to, saw Wen Yangzhi combing Yun Yuwan’s hair on the balcony.
Yun Yuwan smiled while Wen Yangzhi held a large handful of her long hair, combing it gently with a wooden comb.
“So, out of these men, which one do you dislike the most?”
He simply combed through her hair and actually told her, “Lin Zhidong.”
Zhao Qin couldn’t hear what they were saying, but she could see her son, who was usually indifferent to them, combing a girl’s hair with care and tenderness.
Zhao Qin didn’t even know that he was willing to do these things for someone else.
Over the years, they didn’t dare to overstep even a little.
Yun Yuwan hesitated but still wanted to tell him, “Last night, you told me about the otter.”
“Mm.” He gathered her hair at the back of her head.
Yun Yuwan held up her phone the whole time for him to watch a tutorial on how to style a half-twisted braid with twin ponytails, “So, you’re still able to be this calm around Uncle Wen… that really surprises me.”
He secured half of her hair with a hair tie, “After taking control of the bank, I unexpectedly learned that Lin Zhidong once nearly took his life.”
Yun Yuwan’s hand holding the phone froze mid-air.
So, from Uncle Wen’s perspective,
it was his own son laughing and shoulder to shoulder with the enemy who had wanted to kill him, even following the other’s lead, genuinely studying art instead of aspiring to take over the bank.
Cherishing the otter gifted by his enemy as a treasure, yet being distant from his own father.
One can imagine how proud the enemy must have felt.
Yun Yuwan suddenly understood why Wen Yangzhi was so calm.
Many things are not simply black or white, but beyond one’s control.
From Wen Yangzhi’s perspective, it was a dream shattered, with his father personally breaking his leg to stop him from pursuing art.
From Wen Wei’s perspective, however, it was betrayal by his own son, despising him for not living up to expectations, for being cajoled by others, for being foolishly deceived, for being in cahoots with his enemy.
There was no definitive right or wrong.
Back then, Wen Yangzhi was still young, unaware of the maliciousness of people, but the fact remained, and while Wen Wei’s pain was real, inflicting it upon Wen Yangzhi was even more painful.
Wen Yangzhi gathered her stray hairs, “There, done.”
Yun Yuwan came back to her senses, reached out to touch her hair, and only felt the smoothly combed strands. She turned on her phone’s camera and found it looked quite nice.
“Hey, not bad at all.”
A fleeting smile appeared in the depths of Wen Yangzhi’s eyes as he put on his coat to go downstairs, with Yun Yuwan quickly trailing behind him with a patter of footsteps.
Once they reached the dining room, Yun Yuwan’s steps slowed.
Wen Wei and Zhao Qin sat quietly at the dining table, an air of dead silence around them.
Just as Yun Yuwan sat down, she heard Zhao Qin’s emotionless voice: “You slept in your brother’s room?”
Yun Yuwan’s hand, reaching for the fork, paused.
Wen Yangzhi replied indifferently, “Mhm.”
As if it was nothing out of the ordinary, he passed the fork over to her.
Zhao Qin, holding back her irritation, “Do you have any idea———”
But Wen Yangzhi’s voice directly interrupted her, “Why did you suddenly come to my lounge yesterday?”
His voice was distant and indifferent, clearly marking Zhao Qin as an outsider who should not cross the boundaries into his territory.
While Yun Yuwan was the one who could freely come and go.
He held Yun Yuwan’s hand beneath the table.
For a moment, Zhao Qin even felt she had done something wrong, apologizing if it were any other day.
Because the sense of distance between them and their son was just that strong.
But at that moment, Zhao Qin only felt the situation was absurd.
Wen Wei, trying to lighten the mood, “Zhou Fei found your mother’s bag and said he put it in your lounge.”
“Understood,” Wen Yangzhi already had his suspicions and now simply responded with a casual tone.
He casually picked up a dumpling and offered it to Yun Yuwan, no longer needing to hide anything.
Wen Wei watched, hoping Yun Yuwan would accept.
But Yun Yuwan murmured under her breath, “I don’t want to eat this.”
“If you don’t want it, give it back to brother,” Wen Yangzhi said without even looking at her, his tone casual.
Yun Yuwan directly transferred the bite-sized dumpling into his bowl and Wen Yangzhi naturally picked it up and ate.
Wen Wei and Zhao Qin both stopped for a moment.
