Chapter 1434: Chapter 972: Blood Moon Night_2

Compared to the zombies they had encountered before, the Night Demons were significantly stronger. They even broke through the train’s invisible barrier and, with a resounding "bang," leapt directly onto the train car!

"Damn it!"

Seeing one of the Night Demons clutching the car and baring its massive blood-soaked jaws at them through the window, Joel and Aiden exchanged a glance and quickly raised their guns. However, before they could pull the trigger, an even more shocking scene unfolded.

"———————"

A radiant brilliance erupted from the train’s body. In an instant, the train emitted a scorching, blinding light akin to the sun. Wherever the light touched, whether it was Night Demons or the zombies, their bodies immediately ignited. Soon, the entire sea of undead combusted like a burning oil field, exploding into flames everywhere. Freed from the clutches of the zombie army, the train bolted forward like an arrow unleashed.

"Hmm... seems like the Anti-Undead Barrier is useless against these things."

Standing on the front balcony and observing the hordes of burning zombies, Duanmu Huai stroked his chin thoughtfully and then glanced at Mary, who shook her head.

"The Anti-Undead Barrier primarily counters negative energy reactions from Undead Creatures, Mr. Duanmu. These... zombies may resemble undead, but they likely don’t operate through negative energy. They’re probably driven by something like a viral infection... bacteria or such..."

Having learned magic in the Faelun World and been tutored by Lani, Mary had gained considerable expertise in magic. When Ann wasn’t around, Mary could almost be considered a half-time Magic Advisor.

"This kind of situation falls under Sherry’s domain. Too bad I didn’t bring her along."

Duanmu Huai scratched his head helplessly. Although this train was originally an ordinary one, Duanmu had made some modifications to it. For instance, Ogis and Gavi manipulated silken threads to encircle the train cars and fend off intruders. And of course, Mary had cast the Anti-Undead Barrier on it.

Unfortunately, it now appeared the barrier wasn’t effective against zombies in this particular world.

But luckily, Duanmu Huai still had his ace up his sleeve—he was the God of Destruction, after all. Couldn’t he simply infuse Divine Power into the train, turning it into a Divine Artifact?

At this point, it didn’t matter if it was zombies or something else—they would ultimately face total obliteration.

Too bad Duanmu wasn’t versed in viruses or bacteria either, and Lumiaire wasn’t skilled in this area... Forget it, he’d deal with that later.

For Duanmu Huai, this wasn’t much of an issue. After confirming that this so-called Blood Moon wasn’t particularly troublesome, he decided to rest.

As for the survivors, although they were reassured that the Tribunal had the capability to handle the Blood Moon, none of them got any sleep that night. It wasn’t until the next morning, when the sun rose from the opposite edge of the horizon, that everyone could finally relax.

"I can’t believe it—we actually survived the Blood Moon..."

Watching Hillary Alice sleeping soundly beside her, Miyamoto Rei exhaled deeply, putting down the long spear she had held onto all night. It was then that she realized her hands were so tense from the stress that they had practically frozen stiff.

"No one would believe us even if we told them."

Tall City Saye slumped into a chair and cracked a joke.

"But regardless, it’s clear the Tribunal is pretty formidable."

"...Can we really stay here?"

If earlier Tall City Saye and the others had been slightly hesitant about staying on the train, now their desire to remain was growing stronger. After all, this train had managed to withstand the Blood Moon! Even if their destination was a danger zone, since the train could survive the Blood Moon, then surely the danger zone wouldn’t be much of a problem either!

But... would the group be allowed to stay?

For Tall City Saye and the others, this was a big question mark.

"Woo-woo—————!"

At that moment, the whistle blew again, and a city’s silhouette appeared on the horizon.

Perhaps due to the Blood Moon’s influence, when the train pulled into the station, it didn’t agitate many zombies. After ensuring the area was safe, everyone disembarked.

"Alright, I’m heading to the settlement."

Aiden slung his pack over his shoulder, nodded at the group in farewell, and expressed his gratitude to Duanmu Huai and the others sincerely.

"No matter what, I’m truly grateful for your help."

"No problem, we were just killing time anyway."

Duanmu Huai waved dismissively.

"By the way, are you sure there’s a settlement here?"

"Of course, I’ve already contacted them via radio before; there shouldn’t be any issues."

"Well, in that case... mind if we tag along for a look?"

"Huh?"

It had to be said, Aiden seemed a bit surprised at Duanmu’s request.

"You guys want to visit the settlement?"

"That’s right. After all, you’re the first group of living humans we’ve met since emerging; before this, I thought this world was completely wiped out. Besides, I’d like to check out the settlement myself."

"This... alright."

After pondering for a moment, Aiden didn’t hesitate much before agreeing to Duanmu’s request. Truth be told, he had been somewhat anxious about his safety traveling alone. With this group accompanying him, he’d feel more secure.

And so, the group left the train, following Aiden toward the direction of the settlement. For Duanmu Huai and company, it was merely an entertaining diversion. But for Tall City Saye and the others, it was an opportunity to assess the settlement. Since their original settlement had been destroyed, if this one turned out well and needed manpower, they’d consider staying.

After all... not just anyone could board that train.

Meanwhile, Joel and Ellie planned to purchase some essential supplies at the settlement—medications, food, and weapons and ammunition for their journey.

"But really... it feels so mismatched."

Walking down the street and observing the group ahead, Miyamoto Rei muttered under her breath. The survivors wore practical outfits like tracksuits and windbreakers for mobility, whereas Duanmu Huai and company couldn’t be more different. Duanmu himself was one thing, but with Ogis and Gavi in glamorous dresses sitting on his shoulders and Mary holding an elegant parasol beside them, they looked far more like fancy ladies on a shopping spree than people struggling to survive in the apocalypse.

"This is the place."

Led by Aiden, the group arrived at a warehouse in what appeared to be the city’s heavy industrial zone. At first glance, the building looked no different from the other ruins, but closer inspection revealed tightly sealed entrances, and faint noises could be heard emanating from within.

"Don’t move!"

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out as multiple fully armed survivors emerged, aiming their weapons at the group from windows of the surrounding ruins that had appeared empty.

"Move even a bit, and we’ll shoot!"

"Hey, we’re not suspicious people!"

Aiden quickly shouted back, evidently familiar with such situations.

"We’re just here for some business and to trade—we don’t mean any harm!"

"That’s for us to decide."

The one who seemed to be the leader spoke up, keeping his weapon trained on Duanmu Huai with a wary gaze.

"What’s the deal with that giant? Who are you people?"

"This..."

Hearing the question, Aiden froze for a moment before turning to glance at Duanmu Huai, whose Power Armor exuded an aura of "walking annihilation." ...Well, explaining this might indeed be a bit tricky.
