Chapter 1433: Chapter 972: Night of the Blood Moon
"Roar—————!!!"
The deafening roars rolled in like monstrous waves, engulfing the sky as they surged toward the speeding train. Witnessing this spectacle, almost everyone froze in terror, their bodies cold and their voices stolen——they had imagined the horrors of the Blood Moon before, but now, seeing it unfold before their eyes, they realized it was far worse than their darkest nightmares.
It felt as though the entire world had forsaken them, transforming itself into humanity’s enemy. In truth, as they beheld the scene, the only emotion they could grasp was despair... It seemed like the world had already reached absolute Destruction, leaving this train as the last glimmer of human survival.
Faced with this tide of the Army of Zombies, even Aiden lowered his gun... His weapon was useful against a small handful of enemies, but against this sheer number of zombies... No matter how much he fired, there was no way he could finish them all off!
"How could this..."
Even Miyamoto Rei and Komuro Takashi looked deathly pale, their faces awash with horror as they stared speechless at the Army of Zombies ahead. Under the crimson moonlight, the swarm of zombies, spanning the entire land, advanced at an unimaginable speed. The train, carrying what seemed to be the last remnants of human civilization, sped across the earth, as if desperately trying to escape the devouring grasp of the Death Army.
Would they truly be able to escape?
The train was fast, but the zombies were quickly closing in. Normally, these creatures wouldn’t move like this, but as previously mentioned, under the Blood Moon’s glow, they behaved as if intoxicated, running rampant on an unimaginable high. At this moment, they hurtled toward the train with a speed that defied human comprehension. Watching their relentless advance, everyone tensed up——they could almost picture the catastrophic scene of the zombies leaping onto the train, forcing it to derail and crash amidst a storm of destruction.
"Unless the Tribunal has some trick up its sleeve that we haven’t seen yet, I think we’re destined for a dead end."
Joel muttered in a low voice, gripping Ellie tightly by his side.
The others remained silent, though they shared the same grim thought. By now, the zombies had drawn closer to the train, yet still, the train showed no reaction, as though indifferent toward the lethal threat closing in.
At last, the zombies closed the gap further, reaching the very tracks. Under the eerie glow of the red moonlight, the survivors could even make out the horrific forms of the fungus-infected zombies, their grotesque bodies shimmering with crimson light from their terrifying Eyes!
"Roar————!"
Finally, it happened—the thing they had feared most. The zombies leaped forward with piercing screams, hurling themselves at the train!
"Damn it!"
Seeing this, several pushed out frantic curses, gripping their weapons tightly, ready for a desperate battle to the death!
But just then, the unexpected occurred.
"——————Swish!!"
Just as the zombies were about to collide with the train, their bodies were suddenly sliced apart, as if cleaved by invisible blades. Before the survivors’ horrified eyes, the creatures exploded into fragments! The fungus-infected zombies’ torsos, heads, and limbs were all shredded to pieces in an instant, their remains scattered by the speeding train, discarded as pitiful scraps in its wake!
"What just happened!?"
Staring out into the night, the survivors looked stunned, clueless as to what had just unfolded. They had seen the horde hurtling toward the train, only to be instantly and completely torn to shreds—how? What was going on? How could this happen?
"Roar roar———!"
Before anyone could recover, more zombies appeared, filling the gap left by their predecessors. Swarming over each other in maddened determination, they continued their suicidal charge at the train. Yet no matter how terrifying these zombies seemed, the moment they neared the train, they were cleanly and efficiently dismembered, dissipating into nothing but shattered shards beneath the endless night sky.
Joel and Tall City Saye instinctively shielded the eyes of the two young girls beside them——no matter the circumstances, what unfolded before them was simply too bloody, far too disturbing for children to witness.
Yet at least... for now, it seemed like they no longer had to worry about their safety—or that of the train.
"Looks like the Tribunal really has some tricks up its sleeve."
Leaning by the window, Aiden cautiously surveyed the scene unfolding outside, letting out a rare remark of admiration. He had taken a closer look just moments ago, but saw nothing beyond—the Tribunal’s methods remained as mysterious as ever...
"Thunk!!"
But before anyone could let their guard down, several massive black figures suddenly shot forward from the distance, pouncing toward the train like cannonballs.
"Night Demons!"
Aiden’s face instantly tensed as he recognized the colossal mutant creatures barreling toward them. Night Demons were an exceedingly rare but extraordinarily fearsome form of Mutant Zombie. They avoided sunlight during the day, seldom appearing unless it was dark. But at night, these monsters roamed freely, massive in size and brimming with devastating strength. Aiden had encountered a few Night Demons in the past, always choosing to flee rather than risk drawing their attention.
Typically, a given area would harbor only a handful of Night Demons... but now, there were hundreds—thousands!
Had they stumbled into a nest of Night Demons?
