Chapter 1369: Chapter 922: Wang Yuwai Posts a Notice to Drive Away the Devil, Duanmu Huai Beats the Fox Spirit with a Stick_3

"Have you guys never thought about moving?"

"Sigh, the High Monk may not know, but it’s not like we haven’t considered leaving this place. However, every time we get ready and just try to leave town, we end up getting lost and can’t find our way out... It seems like the Fox Spirit is hell-bent on claiming my son’s life..."

"Mr. Wang, there’s no need to worry."

After hearing the whole story, Sun Wukong and Duanmu Huai exchanged a glance before speaking up.

"The people before were simply lacking in magical powers, and that’s why they followed the tricks of that Fairy. For us, this kind of minor Demon is hardly worth mentioning. Just wait until tonight is over, and by tomorrow morning, I guarantee you will see the corpse of that Fox Spirit!"

Although Sun Wukong spoke with righteous indignation, Mr. Wang, having heard many such promises, could only manage a wry smile of thanks. He prepared a sumptuous vegetarian feast for the two and, of course, didn’t forget to promise a handsome reward if they could eliminate the Fox Demon and save Young Master Wang.

For Duanmu Huai, a vegetarian meal wasn’t intolerable; after all, along the way, he had been feasting on Demons and was feeling a bit ’heated.’ Having some vegetarian food to cool down wasn’t such a bad idea. When night fell, the two made their way to the separate courtyard and were greeted by sporadic gusts of chilly winds—it seemed like the perfect setting for a ghost story...

The Servants led them to Young Master Wang’s room, where, just as expected, they saw Young Master Wang lying on the bed, looking as emaciated as a drug addict, skin and bones. If it weren’t for the slight breathing, one might have thought he was a mummified corpse.

"Master, what should we do?"

Once the Servants had left, Wukong revealed his true form, leaned over to Duanmu Huai, and quietly asked.

"Should we wait here for the Fox Spirit to come, so I can smash it with one blow from my cudgel?"

"No need, leave it to me."

Though Sun Wukong’s suggestion wasn’t bad, Duanmu Huai had already had his own plans.

"I remember an incantation for subduing Foxes; I’d like to use it here. Why don’t you go back and guard Mr. Wang and the others, prevent any mishaps."

"Roger that."

Upon hearing Duanmu Huai’s thoughts, Wukong transformed back and left. Meanwhile, Duanmu Huai sat down cross-legged, pressed his palms together, and began chanting.

Hmm... Since I’m doing this, I’ve got to look the part.

Of course, Duanmu Huai didn’t know how to recite Buddhist scriptures.

But at least he could mimic the monks from TV dramas, muttering under his breath without an issue.

As for what he was muttering...

"You’re this and that, that and this and that, that and this and that, sunshine, rainbows, little white horse, drip drop drip drip drop.......drip drip drip, drip drip drip, drip drip drip drop........"

Anyway, I’m chanting like this; whether Buddha listens or not is his own business.

As Duanmu Huai mumbled on, suddenly, a fragrant breeze blew in, followed by the voice of a woman by his ear.

"Great Master, what scripture are you chanting so late at night here?"

As the woman spoke, Duanmu Huai saw ivory-like fingers appear behind him, gently scratching at his shoulder. In the candlelight, a figure seemed to sway, having appeared behind him at some unknown time.

"Of course, I’m chanting the Heart Sutra."

"Hoho, the Great Master must be jesting," the woman giggled after hearing Duanmu Huai’s reply.

"I’ve heard many scriptures before, but never such a fun one. How about we discuss the scripture throughout the night?"

"Sure, let’s have a chat!"

With that said, Duanmu Huai grabbed the woman’s hand in one swift motion, turning his head with a sly grin. He was correct in assuming the person behind him was a beautiful woman dressed in a white robe, appearing frail, innocent, and fair, much like a personification of the moonlight.

But upon seeing Duanmu Huai, the woman’s face drained of color, and with a terrified scream, she turned to run.

"Young lady, where do you think you’re running off to?"

Before the woman could leap away, Duanmu Huai reached out and grabbed her, akin to a Mountain King from TV dramas abducting a villager’s daughter, pinning the Fox Spirit to the ground. As he raised his Golden Cudgel, the Fox Spirit’s complexion turned deathly pale.

"Spare my life, Immortal..."

"I shall not spare you!"

Unyielding before the Devil before him, Duanmu Huai held the Golden Cudgel firmly, and, as if he was in Water Curtain Cave, he went wild, pounding away relentlessly as the fox spirit cried out in pain, pleading for mercy. Duanmu Huai, deaf to her pleas, fought without any Military Strategy, unstoppable in his fury. The Fox woman tried to evade but was in too much agony to escape. Eventually, she let out a mournful cry and then was silent.

When Duanmu Huai stood up again, all that was left beneath him was a dead fox.

"Tsk tsk tsk, I didn’t expect the incantation to actually work."

Gazing at the dead fox on the ground, Duanmu Huai shook his head.

Considering this, should I set up a sign like a fortune teller and make a business out of driving out Foxes?
