"Then, she didn’t want to get rid of the child and even informed my dad, eventually coming to you..."
Jiang Jinchen still hadn’t realized by then that Jing Yan had long aligned herself with his father; it was like he had lived those years in vain.
He immediately ordered an investigation to be conducted.
He even personally left the US to verify the evidence.
As a result, during the back and forth, Ning Yanan had an accident.
"Are you saying that you believe you never even touched Jing Yan and that all this, including her pregnancy, is a plot devised by her and your dad against you?"
"Yes."
"But what if it is true..."
"It’s impossible. Even if you don’t believe me, you should believe the medicine we have. If Jing Yan were truly pregnant, why would my father go to the trouble of buying such things? He was hoping to use the child in Jing Yan’s womb to threaten me into submission, but he didn’t realize that I had already registered our marriage after sensing something was wrong."
"When?"
Reminded by him, Ning Yanan suddenly remembered something very important.
"Why can’t I remember ever signing on the marriage application?" Ning Yanan looked at the man in front of her, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
She racked her brains but couldn’t remember when she had fallen into Jiang Jinchen’s trap and had been kept in the dark.
"Let’s eat something first, I’ll tell you later." Jiang Jinchen touched her pale cheek, his heart aching intolerably.
He carried Ning Yanan out of the room.
Just as they reached the living room, Ning Yanan grabbed his arm.
"Tell me first, otherwise I’ll be too worried to eat anything."
Jiang Jinchen, helpless, had to carry her into the study.
He set her down on a chair and pulled several documents from the bookshelf.
He placed them in front of Ning Yanan, "Take a look, see if you remember anything."
"These are the documents I reviewed. I remember them; it was the day Jing Yan came to see me."
The reason Ning Yanan remembered it so vividly wasn’t only because it had happened recently, but also because she had been so shaken by Jing Yan’s words that she had been dazed all day.
She had sat in the office for an afternoon, only managing to deal with these few urgent documents.
It was impossible not to remember.
"That was also the day Jing Yan informed my father to come to the US."
"What does this have to do with our marriage?" Ning Yanan still didn’t understand. She flipped through the documents again but didn’t find any issues.
How had Jiang Jinchen turned this document into a marriage application?
"The moment I saw my father, I knew it was a conspiracy. I wasn’t sure whether Jing Yan was faking the pregnancy or not, scared that she would use the child to force me to marry her, so I had someone send you a document."
"This one right here?"
"Sort of."
Jiang Jinchen took a bottle of liquid from the desk drawer, held Ning Yanan’s hand, and together they poured it onto the document in front of Ning Yanan.
A few seconds later, the ink on the paper began to disappear.
Eventually, it turned into a blank piece of paper.
Ning Yanan’s eyes widened, staring fixedly at the scene before her.
Something suddenly came to her mind, and she stood up in shock.
"The ink used in printing the documents was tampered with, but this is a military document; how did you swap it?"
"There was no need to swap anything; I just had to add an extra page at the end of the document to obtain a blank piece of paper with your signature on it. As for who helped me deliver this document to you, we don’t need to investigate that."
Jiang Jinchen’s gaze softened, and he pulled her into his arms.
