Chapter 1278: Chapter 1278: Proceeding Cautiously

Every time she thought about those dirty words being associated with her child, Ning Yanan couldn’t stand it.

"Your complexion looks terrible, are you feeling unwell?"

Mo Xiyan hoisted her horizontally, carefully placing her in the car, and fastened Ning Yanan’s seatbelt.

He lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead.

"If you’re struggling with this, you don’t need to answer me right away. I’ll take you home first, you get some good sleep, and once you’ve thought it over, then tell me, okay?"

"..."

Ning Yanan looked at his handsome face and numbly nodded her head.

Mo Xiyan’s mouth curved up, teasing out a content smile.

He walked around to the driver’s seat, opened the door, and sat down.

Starting the car, he drove towards Ning Yanan’s apartment.

The news on the official website was just internal information, not yet released to the public, so Ning Yanan didn’t have to worry about reporters besieging her for the time being.

After Mo Xiyan brought her back to the apartment, he didn’t leave right away but went into the kitchen and started cooking some rice to make porridge.

"I know you don’t have much appetite right now. Let me cook a bowl of plain porridge. Later, I’ll go downstairs to buy some appetizers to go with it. Don’t worry about nutrition for now; the most important thing is being able to eat, understand?"

"Mm."

Ning Yanan vaguely felt an uneasiness in her stomach but didn’t make a fuss.

The things she could do for herself were really limited.

In a few more months, when her belly would be even bigger, she would be able to do even less.

If she didn’t have someone to care for her by her side, she truly might have an accident.

Ning Yanan lay in bed, peering through the ajar door at the man busying himself in the kitchen.

She couldn’t see his face clearly, but hearing the sounds of his bustling made her heart inexplicably ache.

There was a time when Jiang Jinchen also stood in that spot, painstakingly cooking her favorite dishes.

Now, he would probably be busy taking care of the pregnant Jing Yan...

Ning Yanan sniffled, pulled the blanket up to her chest.

She closed her eyes and forced herself to sleep.

Ning Yanan fell into a deep sleep and when she groggily woke, the room was pitch-dark.

She got a fright, thinking it had turned night.

She reached for the bedside lamp and turned it on, only then realizing she hadn’t drawn the curtains.

With a long sigh of relief, she sat up from the bed and pressed her swollen head.

Walking to the window, she pulled the curtains open.

The midday sunlight was particularly blinding, Ning Yanan squinted uncomfortably, only then noticing she was really hungry.

She hadn’t eaten anything since the morning, and her stomach was starting to protest.

Ning Yanan paused briefly, then remembering Mo Xiyan who had stayed in her apartment, hurried to the door and opened it.

She walked into the living room, noticing how quiet it was outside.

Entering the kitchen, she found the porridge still warm in the pot, with several appetizing side dishes next to it.

Underneath the plates, there was a note.

It only had a simple message.

"When you wake up, remember to eat something. I had to leave for a bit—Mo Xiyan."

Something stirred in Ning Yanan’s heart; Mo Xiyan’s earlier words kept revolving in her mind.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t moved.

If she married Mo Xiyan, her current predicament could be easily resolved.

Her child wouldn’t have to endure any stigma; she wouldn’t even need to resign and leave America but could simply take maternity leave when the work period ended.

But...

Ning Yanan looked at the porridge in the pot and the small dishes in front of her, her hand gripping the bowl tightly.

A voice in her head kept reminding her that she didn’t love Mo Xiyan and couldn’t hold him back.

Mo Xiyan deserved a better woman.
