Chapter 1247: Chapter 1247: Now Just One Step Away
Her reaction, as seen by Jiang Jinchen, took on another interpretation.
"Don’t worry, this isn’t my first time in the kitchen, I won’t poison you."
"..."
Jing Yan’s face was somewhat red, whether from panic or shyness, she glanced at him and then turned to set the plates.
Jiang Jinchen watched her back, his eyes flickering faintly before he turned around to start the stove.
He had almost finished preparing things in the United States, now just one final step remained.
Tomorrow, he would have someone send Jing Yan back to the country.
Tonight’s meal would serve as his token of thanks.
Over the course of nearly two months working together, Jing Yan had indeed proven to be more gentle and composed than Jiang Jinchen had anticipated.
If he hadn’t met Ning Yanan first, he might have looked at this woman in a new light.
But to love exclusively is to value the ’exclusively’; he had fallen for Ning Yanan first. No matter how good Jing Yan was, she could no longer catch his eye, and that was something Jiang Jinchen was acutely aware of.
If it hadn’t been for that night, he would have found a way to compensate Jing Yan for her loss.
But unfortunately...
Any material compensation now would only embarrass Jing Yan.
With no better option, Jiang Jinchen could only make do with a meal.
Having made up his mind, Jiang Jinchen moved quickly. He stir-fried a few dishes and brought them out.
Originally, Jiang Jinchen had planned to cook steak, but then he thought that eating steak together would seem too intimate.
In the end, he made a dish of curry beef.
Its golden hue was beautiful and tempting.
The mere sight of it was enough to get one’s mouth watering.
This dish was taught to him by Ning Yanan. Jiang Jinchen cooked it with great care, his mind filled with memories of the days he had lived together with Ning Yanan.
When he brought out the dishes, he was somewhat distracted and didn’t notice Jing Yan’s eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
"I didn’t expect you to be even better at cooking than me," Jing Yan subdued her excited emotions; looking at the table full of food, she was moved beyond words.
"If you like it, that’s good. Let’s eat first, I have something to tell you afterwards."
Jiang Jinchen, having been busy the whole day, hadn’t had time for a meal himself. He picked up his chopsticks and began to eat.
He ate elegantly, despite being starving.
There was none of that raffish, shameless posture he had in front of Ning Yanan. In front of Jing Yan, Jiang Jinchen often acted more like a gentleman.
People are like that; only in front of someone they deeply love do they indulge themselves without restraint.
"Just in time, I also have something to tell you."
Hearing his words, Jing Yan’s eyes flickered as she quietly responded.
The hand holding the chopsticks tightened.
"What is it?"
Jiang Jinchen looked at her in surprise, tasting a bite of the curry beef he had made. It wasn’t bad.
He pushed the dish towards Jing Yan, "It’s not bad, try it."
"Alright."
Jing Yan did not continue the previous topic, quietly eating her food.
The meal was eaten in silence.
In Jing Yan’s memory, this was the first time she had ever had such a harmonious interaction with a sober Jiang Jinchen.
He seldom showed her this kind of attention.
She had even doubted whether, apart from Ning Yanan, other women were invisible to him.
Yet, this meal gave Jing Yan a completely different feeling.
After dinner, Jiang Jinchen also took the initiative to clean up the plates and utensils.
"You’ve done so much today, let me do it," Jing Yan offered to clean up, but Jiang Jinchen pressed her back into her chair.
"Just sit there, there’s no need to fight me over this."
Jiang Jinchen’s long, peach-blossom-shaped eyes narrowed as he picked up the dishes and entered the kitchen. Instead of hurrying to clean up, he just tossed them into the sink and came back out.
Carrying two glasses of red wine in his hands.
