Zombie Queen transmigration into a book
Chapter 97: So… how do you feel about us?

Chapter 97: So... how do you feel about us?

Eva returned to the room, removed her clothes, and entered the bathroom.

As the water ran over her skin, her mind was too distracted to wonder how it still flowed while the lights were out.

After her bath, she slipped on a loose shirt and comfy top before dropping face down on the bed.

A groan escaped her lips. She turned over, letting her head hang over the edge, staring at the ceiling, not caring that her hair touched the ground.

Julian’s words had stirred something in her. Things she had purposely ignored about herself.

The truth about her blank mind—a huge part of who she was before becoming a Zombie—was gone.

All she remembered was waking up in a ruined house—maybe wrecked by her struggle to break free after turning.

The only thing that felt familiar was a dusty, opened novel lying on a bed.

Since then, she had started reading. Novels became her entertainment, life lessons, and a guide to human behaviour.

"Haaa..." Eva sighed, settling with her back on the floor and her legs resting on the bed.

’Maybe I’m just low-key dumb... Nothing really crosses my mind except meat and sleep.’ But that didn’t ease the nagging feeling—an identity crisis had taken root.

Her world was blank—no family, no friends—just novel characters and loyal Zombies who made sure no one interrupted her reading.

Another sigh slipped from her lips as she stared blankly at the ceiling.

That’s how Ethan and Julian found her.

She didn’t react to their footsteps. It wasn’t until Julian gently lifted her from the floor that she glanced at him—the only response she could manage.

Julian didn’t speak. He just held her, brushing her hair in slow, comforting strokes.

It was clear from her blank stare—this wasn’t just about Julian’s earlier comment.

Without saying a word, they lay on either side of her, arms wrapped around her in silent support.

The room was quiet. Only the sound of their heartbeats filled the space. After a while, Eva finally spoke.

"Where do I get a novel?" Her voice was so soft, they nearly missed it.

"I’ll get it for you," they said in unison—then paused, remembering such things didn’t exist in the city.

Eva caught the hesitation and felt a flicker of disappointment. She’d asked Ethan before and already knew the answer.

The words had left her mouth before she realized, but a small part of her had hoped for a miracle.

"Forget it," Eva muttered, turning to her side with her back to Ethan as she closed her eyes.

"I’m sorry for what I said earlier." Julian caressed her cheeks, pulling her hair behind her hair as his grey eyes fell on her.

"I’m sorry for what I said earlier." Julian brushed her cheek, tucking her hair behind her ear as his grey eyes settled on her.

"And I’m sorry for thinking the same." Ethan’s breath brushed against her ear, making her shiver slightly.

"It’s not because of you two," she whispered, eyes still closed. "I just remembered something I didn’t want to think about."

"Can you tell us?" Julian asked, curious about what had truly brought her mood so low.

The silence dragged. Just when they thought she had drifted off, she spoke.

"What qualities...why did both of you marry me?" The question had come to her suddenly, but now she really wanted to know.

At her question, both of their brows arched, and they stayed quiet for a beat before replying in sync.

"You’re the only woman who made our hearts race. Hell, the old man thought something was wrong with us," Julian added with a grumble, recalling the stares he’d ignored.

"Your funny expressions, dramatic reactions, weird thought process... Isn’t that love? Liking everything about someone?" Ethan finished, cupping her face and locking eyes with her.

Eva’s cheeks flushed, but doubt crept into her thoughts. Wasn’t it too fast? In the novels she read, it took months of dates and deep connection before love happened.

"Isn’t it too fast? We haven’t even spent months getting to know each other—no dates or anything... and now we’re married," Eva said aloud, her voice filled with confusion.

"Months? People actually wait that long?" Julian asked, surprised. His face darkened as a thought struck him. Ethan mirrored his expression.

She eased up on her elbows, realizing they weren’t just surprised—there was a hint of anger in their eyes.

"Don’t people usually spend months getting to know each other?" Eva asked, sensing something off in their suddenly dark expressions.

"That’s just playing with someone’s feelings and giving false hope... We’re not scumbags," Julian replied firmly.

"Huh?!" Eva blinked, completely thrown off. ’Isn’t that how it’s supposed to go? Haa! I really don’t know anymore\(◎o◎)/’

She dropped back on the bed, feeling completely lost.

"Dungeon raiders live on the edge—one mistake, and you’re dead." Eva turned to Ethan as he calmly explained the harsh reality of their world.

"We live every day like it could be the last... no time for regrets when death comes without warning." Ethan paused, letting his words sink in.

"You don’t wait. If you want someone, make it known. And if it doesn’t work, you let go just as quickly," Julian added, completing Ethan’s point.

Their words sank into Eva’s mind, and they made sense. She remembered the monster they had faced and wondered if she could’ve survived it alone—then quickly shook her head.

She now saw it clearly—this world didn’t allow time for courtship or deep bonding before committing to someone.

Life here was a constant survival game: live through the day, or end up as a monster’s meal.

And she hadn’t truly felt the horrors of the dungeon because the city blacked out too soon.

Then Ethan asked, "So... how do you feel about us?"

Her brain froze.

"I-I-I..." she stammered, flushing bright red. Feeling their gazes, she panicked and pulled the bedcovers over her face.

Maybe she was uncertain, or maybe she was just too much of a coward to say the ’L’ word —but she knew her feelings went far beyond simple liking.

They were the first genuine connections she’d had in years. Their care was obvious, the... cough...(〃▽〃) sex was great, and the idea of not being with them made her heartache.

"I like you both," she finally mumbled into the covers, her face red as a tomato.

Ethan and Julian were a little disappointed—but they didn’t press her. She was already theirs. Winning her heart completely was just a matter of time.

"Eva dear, am I forgiven?" Julian asked softly, pulling the covers back a little as he leaned toward her flushed ear with a smile.

"Hmm... Next time you call me dumb, I’ll shave all your shiny hair," Eva threatened with a snort, but her laughter soon followed at the thought of a bald Julian.

Julian shook his head, already knowing what image was in her mind.

Ethan stifled a yawn and hugged her closer. Not to be left behind, Julian pulled her back into his arms as well.

A contented smile spread across their faces as they slowly settled in, the room quiet except for the steady rhythm of their heartbeats.

Unbeknownst to them, the days ahead would be filled with obstacles—and moments like this, just the three of them, would become rare.
