Chapter 84: Or die painfully
He dipped his fingers into the liquid and brought it to his nose—the rusty smell of blood filled his senses and his heart fell into an icy cellar.
He stumbled to his feet and opened the door. The ghastly sight that met him made his stomach lurch.
He heaved, the image of their lifeless eyes bored into his mind and then he remembered those hooded figures he bumped into.
His blood grew cold at the thought of how close to death he was. If he hadn’t left the room, he would suffer the same fate as them.
’Who did this? Are they trying to bring chaos to the whole City? Where is Madam Grace.’ Dean’s mind reeled; he had no idea how to handle this.
....
Meanwhile, Grace lay unconscious beside an alley entrance with the bus wreckage in front of her.
People passed her by without a second glance; no one offered help, their attention solely on who to rob next or guard theirs.
As time passed, the city’s people grew bolder and more unhinged, as if their morals had vanished.
Suddenly, Grace’s fingers twitched as the drugs slowly faded from her system. Five minutes later, she absorbed the energy in the air, healing her wounds.
With a groan, she sat up, staring blankly into the darkness, unsure how much time had passed or if the Administrator had come up with a solution in her absence.
Grace rose to her feet, patting the dust off her body as she glanced around to see where she was.
Her expression grew confused as she walked forward before coming to the conclusion she was lost.
Grace frowned at the loud noise and the vandalized shops she walked past, her expression becoming gloomy at the sight of dead bodies littering the streets.
She quickened her pace, hoping to return to the Scientist Guild and at least burn the bodies before disease spread.
"Excuse me. Do you—" Grace was interrupted by the woman’s sudden attack on her.
Grace merely wanted to ask for directions and didn’t expect to be suddenly attacked. The woman stared at her vigilantly and Grace felt helpless, her heart sinking deeper by the second.
"I just need directions." Grace backed away slowly with her hands out, showing no harm.
The woman stared at Grace, her hands gripping the knife tightly, pointing towards Grace, showing no signs of bringing it down.
"Don’t make any move." The woman’s voice trembled as she threatened. She moved backwards, creating a large space between them before motioning for Grace to speak.
"Do you know how to get to the Scientist Guild?" Grace asked urgently.
Noticing Grace genuinely wanted directions, she let down her guard slightly and was about to speak.
"Bang!" The woman fell to the ground, and a ground spike pierced through her skull under Grace’s stunned gaze.
Grace quickly regained her composure and dodged to the side; her eyes darted around, instantly locating the attacker.
Boundless rage burned through her veins but she remained eerily calm.
"Come out, Come out~" A voice called out in a sing-song manner; chuckles echoed through the clearing as four men stepped out.
She assessed the four men calmly, noticing their weak strength, she stepped out of her hiding place.
The four men were surprised but assumed she had given up on herself since she couldn’t escape.
A man eyed Grace’s endowed figure and licked his lips, his pants tightening slightly with desire.
He liked older women, the mature charm they seemed to exude made aroused and Grace was very much to his liking.
"Boss, can I have a taste of her. It would be bad if she dies so easily.’’ The man spoke respectfully to the man in the middle.
His disgusting gaze made Grace’s hands tremble with anger. She calmly retrieved her iron bat from her space bag.
"I’m giving you the chance to give me a valid reason for killing her. Or die painfully. Chose." Grace’s cold calm voice sent a shiver down their spine.
The leader frowned feeling he had kicked an iron bucket. But he wasn’t discouraged; he had numbers in his favour.
"Reasons, you ask? Hmmm... It was exhilarating—watching her blood flow, seeing the disbelief in her eyes," the leader said, licking his lips as he recalled the rush that surged through him when his arrow pierced her skull.
The other men around him trembled at the madness swirling in his eyes but they dared not show it or will end up like their dead teammate.
"You’re sick," Grace uttered with a disgusted expression. To her, this young man was like a dungeon monster who feasted on the blood of humans.
The way she gazed at the man changed, since he was a monster, she would treat him as one.
She hurled the bat, smashing it into the shoulder of the man on the right.
A sickening crack echoed in the surrounding followed by the man’s sharp wail.
Not giving them a chance to react, she sprinted towards them and slammed her elbow into another man’s neck, and his neck caved in, instantly killing him on the spot.
With a swift kick, the bat bounced up and she grabbed it, slamming it into the third man’s head.
Blood sputtered out and the man collapsed on the ground dead. It all happened in a flash—too fast for them to activate their powers.
The three men lay dead on the ground, their eyes bulged out in disbelief. The leader’s legs trembled, and he stumbled backwards as Grace walked up to him.
"P-p-please don’t kill me...I’m sorry." The man pleaded, tears filling his eyes, and his earlier arrogance was forgotten. Only the will to live remained.
He moved backwards, his body trembling as his eyes darted around looking for a chance to escape.
Grace ignored his attempt to stall for time; raising the bat above his hands, she slammed it hard on his knees.
"Arghhh!" A blood-curdling scream left the man’s lips as his kneecap shattered into dust.
His legs lay loosely on the ground and he crawled on his stomach, tears and snot dripping down his face as he begged for mercy.
But Grace swung the bat again, shattering his other kneecap. The man wailed, "P-p-please I know I’m wrong. Please let me go...." The man begged crawling on his stomach as his legs trailed loosely behind him.
Grace said nothing and slammed her bat on his spine, a sickening crack echoed eerily into the dark clearing.
The man lost his voice; pain blurred his vision, and just as he was about to faint, Grace healed him.
She didn’t give him a chance to faint. The crystal light cast her shadow against the wall, revealing her repeatedly slamming the bat down on the half-dead man.
She shattered every bone in his body, healing him when he showed signs of fainting. The man didn’t have the strength left to cry; his eyes were blood from agonizing pain.
After some minutes passed Grace finally slammed the bat into his head, ending his miserable life.
She swung the blood away from her back bat and continued with her journey. After hours of walking, she finally got directions without someone trying to kill her.
While the Cities were falling deeper into chaos Eva and Selina were unaware of this.
