Chapter 72: Sister, where are you?
Ethan’s beast was traumatized by Stone’s relentless poking; it could feel its fur thinning from the endless tests.
Ethan’s expression was so dark, that one could see icy mist exuding from his body.
He sat and watched Stone and administrator Dean, conversing animatedly in words he didn’t understand as they circled his beasts.
His throat was raw from answering their endless questions. Finally, Dean spoke words Ethan had been desperate to hear: "I have to report this to the leader. You can leave—but expect another visit from us."
Without hesitation, he stepped out, his wolf following closely behind.
Stone’s reluctant gaze bore into the wolf’s back, making it shudder and pick up speed, pressing closer to Ethan.
As they walked through the hallway, the other scientists stopped what they were doing and stared in awe at the majestic beast.
Under their stares, Ethan left the building, mounting his wolf—the wolf dashed into the streets, and without Ethan’s guide, it went in the direction of the mansion.
As soon as he left Dean rushed out of the building, getting into a bus, he drove out.
......
’’Bang! Bang!’’
A gloved fist shot out, striking the iron-like punching bag. Grace’s toned body glistened with sweat as she unleashed a barrage of punches, dents beginning to form on the once-smooth surface of the bag.
A man leaned against the doorway, his eyes locked on her.
’’I can feel your eyes on me—don’t you have something better to do than ogle your wife?" Grace said calmly, without a hint of breathlessness, as her workout came to a stop.
The black-haired man straightened at her words; he took a towel hanging beside the door and moved towards her, his eyes holding only her figure.
’’What wife complains that her husband doesn’t work enough, hmm?’’ He muttered, his gaze lingering on her sweat sliding down her neck and tracing the curve of her chest.
No matter how long they had been together, he was still amazed by her beauty—she never seemed to age.
Dodging her outstretched hands, he gently patted her sweat dry with the towel. ’’Is my beautiful administrator wife free today. Let’s go on a date.’’
Grace stared into his brown eyes with a meaningful gaze. ’’Aren’t you using me to slack off on work. You are already this old—’’ Leo kissed her deeply, interrupting her words.
Releasing her lips, he gave her a threatening stare, ’’Call me old again, I promise—you won’t be able to work today.’’ His deep voice made a blush creep upon her cold features.
She wondered why he was so energetic, like a young man. Despite being in his late forties, his body remained well-maintained.
No wrinkles marred his face, and his hair retained a healthy black sheen, free of any signs of grey.
His tall frame enveloped her, leaving only her hair visible under the crystal light. The atmosphere became heated, pink bubbles around, but...
’’Gross,’’ a lazy voice drawled in disgust. Leo frowned and turned to see his son slouched against the wall, his hair a mess, his drowsy eyes half-lidded as always.
Leo snorted in disgust, almost doubting if it was his and his wife’s child, he always wondered if they brought back the wrong one.
But seeing the green tips of his hair and the same features as him, he sighed in disappointment.
’’You finally crawled out of your room. Get a girlfriend or wife, then you won’t feel envious when I flirt with my wife. Shoo, go back.’’ Leo shooed him away, but Aaron glanced at him with a bored expression.
Grace gazed at her son with concern and a touch of guilt. Watching his sister taken right before his eyes had left a lingering shadow in his mind—especially since she was so consumed with finding her daughter and eliminating everyone involved in that scheme. Her husband had practically raised him.
’’Mum, stop thinking wildly, I don’t blame you.’’ His lazy voice snapped her out of her thoughts, only to feel tears sliding down her cheeks.
She touched her face, staring down at her wet hands in a daze; Leo pulled her into his arms—caressing her back in a soothing motion.
"We’ll still find our baby girl. I haven’t given up searching for her. You have me and Aaron," he whispered into her ear, gently urging her to rely on him and Aaron more.
Aaron gave them a glance before shadows coiled around him, and he vanished through the walls.
A shadow slithered through the ceiling like a ghost, and Aaron dropped onto the bed effortlessly.
He pulled his hair back and glanced longingly at the countless computers lining the walls of his room, his eyes lingering on the huge egg placed in the corner.
Forgetting his workout, he strode to the computers, fingers moving instinctively over the keyboards—but the screens remained blank.
If the power were still on, he wouldn’t have left his room—he wouldn’t have made his mother sad just by looking at him.
"Sister, where are you?" his lazy voice had a hint of sadness.
He had hacked all the cameras around the city, in hopes of a miracle or any hint of his sister’s whereabouts but nothing.
Pulling at his hair in frustration, he muttered, "Who am I fooling? I don’t even know what she looks like." He lay back on his bed, his eyes growing heavy with drowsiness, devoid of any motivation.
....
Grace got herself together, hating her weakness. Pulling away from his embrace, she returned to her calm expression.
"I’m alright. We will go on a date if I’m free tonight." Grace promised under Leo’s concerned gaze.
Leo gazed into her eyes, searching for any signs she was faking it, only to see her firm, sincere gaze.
He tugged at a strand of her hair, a mischievous smile forming on his lips. He was about to take a chance, but before he could speak, their butler interrupted.
He tugged at a strand of her hair, a mischievous smile forming on his lips. He was about to take a chance, but before he could speak, their butler interrupted.
"Madam Grace, someone from the scientist guild is here." The butler called out from the opened door.
Grace’s expression turned serious at the sight of work. She pecked Leo’s depressed face and left the room with a short laugh.
Leo swore under his breath, hating the interruptions. Today, he was free and wanted to have quality time with his wife, but no.
First his son, now the scientist guild. It’s time to retire, he was already old for this. That idea became tempting and he stared at the door, falling into deep thoughts.
’What if he kidnapped his wife and moved her to another City? On a scale of one to ten, how badly would she beat him up, or would he actually succeed?’
He quickly shook those impossible thoughts from his mind, knowing fully well his wife would bundle him up in a bus and drive back to the City.
’’One could only dream,’’ he muttered, his words echoing through the empty room.
Grace didn’t know her husband’s fanciful thoughts and quickly put on comfortable clothes.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, Dean straightened in his seat. As soon as he saw her he rose from his seat and nodded in greeting.
"Seat," Grace motioned for him to sit. "Is there an issue with the safety suit experiments?" she asked, cutting to the chase.
