Chapter 40: Eva...when we get back.
Eva frowned in confusion when she felt the body heat. ’Aren’t ghosts supposed to be cold? I can even feel hot breath on my skin (´・_・`).’
Ethan and Julian dropped the weapons, their expression darkened. Their gaze held murderous intent, as they searched the surroundings for the culprit.
Julian was releasing his powers covertly, but before he could strike—
They froze in fear when Eva slammed her head backwards, disorienting the man holding her for a second for her to twist his hands backwards in a sickening crack.
"Arghh! You bitch!’’ his pain fueled his anger as he kicked forward, aiming for her chest.
But Ethan reacted in time, sending an ice dagger toward him. Julian appeared in front of Eva and dragged her out.
He swung his sword forward, getting the man’s location by the blood-stained ice dagger.
Severing the man from the waist. The man’s eyes flashed with disbelief, his figure turning visible as he died.
Seeing her guess was right, Eva held her chest in relief. Her heart was beating extremely fast at the thought of it being a real ghost.
"Ah!’’ she let out a startled cry as she was suddenly lifted. She was about to attack when she felt the familiar presence of Ethan.
"My heart nearly flew out of my chest. You could have called—Mm...’’
Eva’s words were interrupted by Ethan’s dominant kiss. ’???’
Her hands instinctively wrapped around his neck. Her breath caught in her throat by his dominance of her lips.
She could only surrender, her mind blank as he ravaged her lips.
Ethan’s emotions were in disarray; the thought of her almost dying made his heart stop.
He broke the kiss, his forehead against her as his chest heaved. Eva sucked in air, her mind unavailable at the moment.
Before her mind could return to her, Julian lifted her, biting her lips. His grey eyes held anger and fear.
"What if he stabbed you because of your sudden actions? My heart nearly stopped Eva.’’ He muttered, biting gently on her earlobe. His voice shaking slightly from emotions.
"Mm.." Eva tried to move her ears away, feeling sensitive, but Julian noted her reaction and trailed wet kisses and biting down gently.
Eva’s toes curled, tingles rushing down her spine as she tried to suppress the moan coming from her lip.
Ethan couldn’t take it and carried her out of Julian’s embrace. "We need to leave here." His tone serious, trying to mask his possessiveness and jealousy.
Julian clicked his tongue at Ethan’s behavior but followed, knowing they needed to head back to Oasis City.
Eva buried her head in Ethan’s chest, she was so embarrassed by her hopeless expression. ’Where’s your self-control? Even if they are sexy and tall ...don’t trail off-topic. You have to act like a conservative lady even if you want to jump their bones. Haa... it’s so hard, why are they handsome?’ she got frustrated and couldn’t help but pinch Ethan.
But she pinched his nipples by mistake causing him to almost stumble.
He held her hand, taking deep breaths to calm himself, "Eva...when we get back.’’ His tone was thick with emotion, and his gaze held promise.
Eva froze, her eyes wide when she noticed what she had done, "W-Wait, it’s not what you think." She tried to explain herself but she only received Ethan’s hum.
She sensed he didn’t believe her words one bit. She fell silent, hiding her face, knowing further explanations would only make things worse.
Julian’s hands were deep in his pocket as he moved, scanning for any enemy, unaware of their exchange.
They reached the control room, staring at the controls with blank expressions.
"Who can drive?’’ Julian asked flatly, met only with silence. It’s a day’s journey to reach their destination.
Eva patted Ethan’s chest, motioning for him to put her down. The crystal light of the control room shone on the buttons and lever.
Eva squatted down, her body aching from their fight. She closed her eyes absorbing the energy in the air, her hair glowing as her body repaired itself.
"Haa...powers, mama missed you.’’ She muttered with a wide smile on her lips. She took off her goggles.
Then her mind focused on the buttons, "We should press anything, at least we know their use when the train moves.’’ Suggesting to them, her hands itching to press the buttons and levers.
Julian glanced at Ethan and shrugged in acceptance, none of them could drive a train.
Ethan glanced at the train and was about to agree when he heard a sound coming from the left.
He frowned and moved closer to the door, wearing his goggles back. He saw a dimly lit light coming from the right and a slow heartbeat from the left.
The sound from the left was closer, so he moved towards that location to see a bleeding man, on the ground beside him where empty vail of healing potion.
Seeing the ice residue on the man’s injury, he didn’t need any confirmation of his identity. An ice dagger formed on his hand, piercing through the man’s head.
Without a second glance, he moved towards the right, hiding in the shadows as he observed the trembling man holding a glowing crystal.
He watched the man glance around nervously; Ethan could hear his heart hammering in his chest.
This man was the fortunate survivor who hid under the bunk bed. Liam’s face paled at the blood splatter on the ground, he stayed hidden for hours and took the courage to leave his hiding place.
He was a dungeon raider, but the gory scene of this train made his heart tremble with horror.
He suddenly froze, feeling an intense gaze staring at him through the dark.
Without much thought, he threw water blades and fled, without looking to see if his attack landed on the figure.
He wrapped the crystal tightly, stumbling over things as he ran, he grimaced as he slammed his legs on an iron frame.
He didn’t stop from the pain but continued running, but before he could go further, he was frozen in place.
"I don’t want to die.’’ Tears filled his eyes as he slashed at the ice freezing him in place.
He slashed the ice with his water blades like a madman. Ethan waited patiently until he wore himself out.
"Are you one of them?’ Ethan’s cold words made the pale man stare out at the shadow in fear.
