Chapter 35: Miss, could you step out of the room a bit?

Ethan carried her to the bunker bed at the side, laying her down, he raised her closed, ’’Is there any other place you’re injured?’’ he asked, concern lacing his tone.

Eva hesitated. ’’Maybe my waist,’’ she murmured, recalling the sharp pain when her body slammed into the sink.

His grip on the bed tightened at her words. Julian’s head was lowered, his expression hidden though the spoon in his hand bent awkwardly.

As Ethan’s cold hands pressed against her skin, she shivered. A soft sigh escaped her lips as the soothing chill eased her pain. Her tense muscles relaxed, and sleep tugged at her heavy eyelids.

It was like a self-serving ice pack. She blinked to suppress her sleep. ’Sooo comfortable (˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈). Let me close my eyes a bit. Yawn...’ she thought to herself, her eyes closing slowly; as soon as her eyes closed fully, she drifted into sleep.

Ethan glanced at her peaceful face, her even breaths signalling she was asleep. His gaze softened, though a frown followed—she should have been calling out for food by now. Fighting while still sore must have been exhausting and painful.

Ethan caressed the tattoo on her back; his expression grew darker at each passing moment, but his hand on her was very gentle.

Julian slipped the food into his space bag, and stepped toward the door, only to feel another hand on the knob. He glanced up to meet Ethan’s sharp gaze.

Neither spoke, but the unspoken understanding was clear--leaving Eav unguarded wasn’t an option.

Twice, when she was out of their sight, she found herself in a bad situation.

’’I’m going first,’’ Julian said with finality—he knows Ethan well, if he let Ethan handle those people first, there wouldn’t be anything left for him to torture. Not giving him the chance to agree, he paused Ethan in place and left the room.

Time figures wrapped tightly around Ethan but he was able to free his mouth, ’’Feed them with enough healing potion when you’re done.’’ He called out after Julian’s back. A hum left his lips as he closed the door.

After a minute, the restraining figures around him disappeared; he stared at Eva’s sleeping form and sat on the seat. He could only wait. He used this time to assess the events of that key.

He felt the key was connected with this sudden blackout; he only hoped it was temporary, but his instinct screamed it was anything but.

Getting up, he moved to the bunker bed. The bed was small to contain two people—carrying her in his hands he settled into the lower bunker with her on top of him. Eva stirred, settling comfortably into his arms as she slept.

He held her tightly in his hands, His hands running through her hair and he drifted into sleep by the rhythm of her heartbeat.

Meanwhile on the other side, Julian moved towards the health cabin, passing by bunk beds and people. The sound of the train tracks and noisy occupants accompanied him as he reached his destination.

’’Knock.’’

Inside the room, the five men lay hopelessly on the bed. Their gaze vacant and their expression etched with agony at the emptiness they felt below.

The sudden knock didn’t stir them from their stupor. The healer gazed at them with pity, though a flicker of schadenfreude lingered in her eyes.

She stood up, opened the door and was stunned by the handsome face, staring calmly at her.

’’Miss, could you step out of the room a bit?’’ Julian requested calmly. The woman nodded dumbly moving out of the way only for her mind to come back to her.

She let a passenger into the cabin unsupervised. She tried to call out but she couldn’t move an inch—fear ceased her heart by the clock figures wrapping around her tightly.

’Help me! I can’t move!’ panic surged as the healer realized her mistake. Her heart raced, and unshed tears burned her eyes, trapped like the scream in her throat.

She promised herself if she survived this encounter she would never be confused by any handsome face again.

Inside the room, the five men lying on the bed were unaware of the danger they were currently in.

Julian gaze settled on the men on the bed, his fingers turning the key, locking them in.

He walked towards the bed, uncovering the sheets, and he saw the severed male part. The man’s eyes regained focus at Julian’s abrupt actions.

’’What are you doing? Who are you?! Are you here to mock me!’’ the man exploded, Julian’s actions were the last straw.

His veins popped, and his face flushed red from anger, but he froze when he met apathetic grey eyes staring back at him like he was a lower life form—still breathing.

The man shut his mouth, and his body screamed for him to run, which he did. ’’Bang!’’ the sound startled the other men awake.

They looked over to see their leader falling out of the bed and crawling fast toward the door with an unfamiliar man watching him.

The man’s gaze suddenly shifted to them, sending a chill straight to their hearts; they shook and tried to pretend they were unconscious, thinking he was only here for their leader.

’’Which one of you hit her?’’ Julian’s cold voice cut through the silence.

One man whimpered, trembling uncontrollably. Another gagged, choking on his fear as the question hung heavy in the air.

’’W-w-w-hich w-woman?’’ one of them stuttered badly, his lips trembling.

The leader’s hands trembled as he reached the door, and he was glad his men caught the man’s attention.

He was about to open the door when frozen in place. His eyes stared at the door, he was so close to freedom.

He tried to struggle, his face paled when he couldn’t move an inch—his heart skipped a beat at the sound of footsteps moving toward him. Tears burned his eyes as he was dragged back by his hair.

Pain shot through his scalp, as his body was dragged along on the floor. He tried to beg, but he couldn’t move his lips as well. Julian dropped him in the centre of the room, the crystal light shining on his tear-filled face.
