Chapter 17: Chapter 17- So what’s going on here?
Marcus was so shocked by Julian’s words that he forgot his fearful reaction to his wife finding out he snuck into the dungeon. He looked over to Ethan who nodded. Marcus looked out the window and saw it was morning light, so he was not dreaming.
’’Old man, what’s with your reaction? Is it so impossible for us to have a teammate?’’ Julian said taping the counter to snap Marcus out of his exaggerated expression.
’’Child, blink, if his forcing you to tell lies.’’ Marcus looked over to the petite girl and spoke softly. Eva was speechless by his words and could only say, ’’I’m not forced,’’ the older man glanced at her, half believing her words before looking over to Ethan and Julian, who looked at him with a flat expression; and Julian’s threat clicked in his mind.
’’There were no minutes of doubt that you’re their teammate. I will give you a twenty per cent discount on the potions.’’ Marcus changed his words quickly and said in a humble tone, pleading with his gaze for them not to tell his wife.
He shivered at the thought of the woman; even if he was a retired dungeon lord, he still felt fear at every mention of his wife. The entrance door opened, and a woman walked in ’speak of the devil.’
’’Ethan, Julian. Why didn’t you let me know you were coming? I could have made some pies.’’ A kind tone came from the old woman’s lips, but the three of them tried to keep a straight face at the thought of her cooking.
Julian walked closer to her and circled her. ’’Who’s this beautiful gorgeous lady? Old man, it’s your luck to marry such a wife.’’ Julian said in a serious tone, causing the old woman to smile with happiness. ’’Oh, you. Stop flirting with this old lady and get a girlfriend already.’’ Lilly said in a smiling tone and looked over to Ethan who held a smile and greeted in his own way ’’You’re looking well.’’
Lilly smiled and patted his shoulders gently, already used to his cold expression; then her gaze stopped on Eva, and she assumed she was a customer until Julian introduced her.
’’This is Eva Quinn, our new teammate.’’ Lilly almost walked on hair in shock, mirroring Marcus’ expressions of disbelief as well. ’’She is really our new teammate; we are here for the antidote potion.’’ Ethan said, trying to stop her from asking questions.
Julian looked at Marcus with a threatening gaze to be fast or his lips would spill things it wasn’t supposed to. Marcus reacted quickly and rushed into the store room and brought out all the boxes of antidote vials.
Lilly was still out of it; the boys she knew in the past and now never trusted their backs to people after that incident.
She glanced over to the quiet Eva, scrutinizing her from top to bottom, trying to see anything different and special about her, but she could only see a petite energy manipulator.
Or was it love, but shook her head, ’I can’t picture the boys disregarding common sense of safety for love. So what’s going on here?’ Lilly’s brain was working fast, Eva was uncomfortable at the woman’s fixed gaze on her and discreetly moved away from the woman’s line of sight.
After some minutes, Julian handed over twenty potion vials to her, ’’Tell me when you are done with them. But don’t consume too much only when you can’t endure the poison that you take this.’’ Julian warned in a rear serious tone. When it comes to the dungeon issue, his playfulness seems to shred away.
Eva nodded, ’’Too much will hinder your upgrade. No matter how pure a potion is, it’s part poison as well.’’ Marcus chimed in from the side, hoping she heed his advice. Eva nodded with a serious expression, showing she heard them.
’’Bye, old man, gorgeous Mrs. Lilly.’’ Julian blew the old woman a kiss causing her to blush at his handsome face. Marcus shot Julian a warning glare, aware he was exploiting his wife’s soft spot for handsome faces.
Ethan just waved them goodbye, with Eva nodding and following along.
Reaching the door Julian turned with an evil smirk on his lips. ’’Before I forget, I’m sure I saw someone like Marcus in the dungeon last week. I know it couldn’t be the old man, just letting you know.’’ He said and slipped out the door.
’’MARCUS!’’
He laughed when he heard the screams from the shop, his steps light. Eva thought back at the kind old man’s face, and a tinge of pity grew in her heart, which vanished immediately; her gaze was attracted by the building across from them.
And it seems that was their next destination. The plaque read: Dungeon exchange.
’’This is where you can exchange your dungeon loot for either money or other things of equivalent value,’’ Ethan explained, thinking she was used to going directly to the night market to exchange her loot and was unaware of such a place.
’’And the prices are higher than that of the night market,’’ Julian added, opening the door for them to go through before walking in. Eva’s gaze noticed the wall, where different price tags had been added. It was like a supermarket where everything had a fixed price.
She moved towards the wall; she scanned the images for the price of the Spider monster, her gaze trailing the pictures, but she was unable to find it.
Julian flipped the display to reveal more options. Eva’s eyes widened in surprise, ’’So it can be done this way.’’ She muttered and flipped the image, looking for the monster’s price before she stopped on the fourth flip.
’’Got it!’’ she exclaimed, her gaze going for the price. Full corpse: 20 gold coins, fur: 10 gold coins. She held her chin in thought, ’’The night market is short of 5 gold coins from the amount listed. You can sell it.’’ Julian advised from the side and Eva came to a decision.
She would sell the full body of the three monsters, that’s 60 gold coins she would be earning, and her eyes lit up at the thought of hearing that crisping clang of coins. She wasn’t going to deposit it in her card, she prefers holding the money in hand.
’’I will sell the full body. Let’s go-’’ Eva’s words were interrupted by the familiar unhinged lady.
’’Hi miss, we meet again. I’m sorry for the other time.’’ Sierra’s delicate tone echoed through the surroundings, and Eva’s brow furrowed. ’why did she meet this person again?’
