Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Jade & Layla

With thought, in his mind, he nodded and said, "Alright, I will become his friend..."

Jade heaved a sigh of relief when he saw his father taking his words seriously. He stood up and looked at Ronan with a deep gaze before turning toward his face and said,

"Let cousin go, Father. He wasn’t at a mistake."

Ronan was excited hearing Jade’s words and expectantly looked at Frank who waved his hand, and Ronan immediately stood up,

"Jade, you are still the best."

He dropped one sentence before running away.

Frank saw Ronan’s retreating back and asked, "Why did you let him go?"

Jade only looked at Ronan’s back with a heavy gaze. Though he felt guilty in his heart, he calmly looked away,

"He was the one who had made a mistake. He should pay for it."

Frank was confused... or maybe he wasn’t, but he still left the room after leaving the sentence, "You are too complex, Jade."

Jade watched as Frank left before closing his eyes. Feeling the stress and heaviness in his heart, he went to his secret room and sat in front of the canvas.

As if possessed, he started to draw with his hand. An hour passed, and soon the image on the canvas started to take shape.

A beautiful girl with pale skin with loose pink hair appeared on the canvas. Jade looked at the girl with longing in his heart.

Due to his frail constitution, he was never allowed to leave his home. He had almost no friends except the beautiful lady on the canvas.

The one woman who kept on visiting his dreams since he turned 10. For some reason, he felt that she existed in the real world and even tried to find her, but to no avail.

He wanted to ask his parents to find the girl, but knowing how overprotective they were, he could only give up.

Since birth, he knew one thing: if he was attached to a person too much, he would have a strange urge to keep them protected and under his control.

Just like how he was ready to sacrifice his cousin for the sake of his father’s safety.

Hence, his parents always ensured never let him be connected to any person. Maybe if they knew about this pink-haired woman who repeatedly invaded his dreams, they might kill her.

So he never told them about the existence of this girl and only secretly investigated her.

But to his dismay, he had limited power, and most of his channel was monitored by his parents, so till now he had no news about the pink-haired girl.

With longing in his heart, he caressed the painting and muttered,

"Am I wrong, Layla?"

He had named the girl Layla since he didn’t know her true name.

"You know I feel as if I am despicable, but I can’t bear to part with my father. Am I wrong for knowing that my cousin will die if not my father, and remaining silent?"

He caressed the drawing, his eyes fixed on the beautiful smile gracing her face as he continued,

"You are smiling... so it means you agree too, right? Layla... you are the best! Only you don’t blame me for my wrong deed."

His tensed body relaxed as he chatted with the painting. The scene should have looked harmonious, if it wasn’t for the strange obsession on Jade’s face.

"One day, when I have enough power, I will find you and marry you... Till then, please wait for me. Don’t disappoint me, Layla. I am looking forward to our meeting."

After that, Jade picked up the painting and hung it on the wall. As he stepped back, he admired the different paintings hanging on the wall.

All the other walls were decorated with the painting of a certain pink-haired girl. In some, she was eating donuts with a delighted expression, and she was laughing.

There were a few disturbing ones, too. In one of the pictures, she was crying, her body was marred with different scars, it looked as if she had been whipped.

In some photos, she was curled up and sobbing. Disturbingly beautiful.

........

Ivy woke up with the sound of knocking and rubbed her eyes groggily. She looked at Isla who was asleep too, and stored her in the temporal storage.

Then she opened the door and saw Seraphina who asked in an anxious voice,

"You... did you do something to Isla? Where is she? Have you harmed her? Ivy, I am warning you! There is a limit to my patience! Every dragon has their reverse scale!" Seraphina practically shouted at that point.

However, Ivy shook her head and corrected Seraphina,

"Please be a little ashamed. You aren’t some kind of dragon. At most, you are a rat wearing some fur and thinking of yourself as a lion."

Her mocking words made Seraphina boil with anger, "You... how dare!"

"And stop shouting. I hate it when someone raises their voice at me." Ivy warned, her cold eyes were enough to scare Serphina. "Leave before I lose my temper."

Seraphina, driven by the love for her daughter, gritted her teeth and said,

"Not until you tell me if you have Isla."

Ivy raised an eyebrow before stepping aside, "Why don’t you check on your own?"

Seraphina trembled with fear and stepped inside. She kept on looking at Ivy, expecting a surprise attack from her, but Ivy only stared at her with amusement.

Ivy’s room was small to begin with, and within 4 minutes, Seraphina had checked all the possible places. When she saw that Isla wasn’t there, despair filled her heart.

She suddenly knelt down and begged repeatedly,

"Ivy! Please! Please give me my daughter. I know you have hidden her somewhere."

A mother’s instincts were still the sharpest.

Though Seraphina had no proof, she had a strange kind of intuition that Isla was in Ivy’s hands.

Ivy smirked and leaned toward Seraphina’s ear,

"If Isla is indeed in my hand, then what will you offer in exchange?"
