Chapter 148: Identity
Chapter 148: Identity
ELIANA
It wasn’t surprising that Aldrin agreed to take a DNA test without much fanfare. If anything, I could only wonder how that kid came out from the likes of that vile woman.
The atmosphere wasn’t bad initially. But now that these two had been put into a different cell for a confrontation, it suddenly turned cold and extremely thick with tension.
Lucian stood before me, making sure that they couldn’t reach me even though they were already behind bars. Instead of being taken to a room for the confrontation, they were taken to a different cell.
Lucian made a ’stern request’ with the powers of a Sinclair to make this happen. My husband would not allow me to stay anywhere near where a projectile could fly.
When I look at them like this, it’s hard to reconcile with the image of their usual arrogance. Not that they didn’t project the same thing now.
They still dared to feel superior, but how long that would last, I wouldn’t know.
Alexa still maintained her pompous act. Her chin was set high, and her face curled into that haughty sneer she’d worn covertly her entire life.
She had always been insufferable in her entitlement, flaunting her Thornhill last name like a weapon, like it made her untouchable. But today, her fortress of superiority was about to be razed.
And she had absolutely no idea.
With how Ingrid looked at Alexa, it seemed like she never bothered to tell her.
"Fancy your new crib?" I asked innocently.
Alexa scoffed. "Are you here to gloat? Spare us your theatrics. Phu-lease."
"Me? Oh no. I’m here only to deliver some news. I’m here to do you a favor." I shrugged because I really was going to deliver news, though how she’d like it wasn’t something I would care about.
Her eyes narrowed like I was about to spew some lie.
"Go away! We don’t want to see you!"
"Guards! Guards! Take them away!" Ingrid started screaming for the guards who’d never come.
I just cut to the chase.
"I’m here to see Alex Nelson, not really you." I looked at my supposed aunt, whose eyes widened at the clearly familiar name.
Alexa, on the other hand, just scowled at what seemed like a joke.
She was going to call us out, but when she looked toward her mother, her expression alone surprised her.
Then I figured I’d show a few documents—several pages of incriminating evidence—and even a video of Ingrid clearly pushing the Patriarch off the stairs when needed.
"What’s this?" She looked at the copy of the documents we threw inside.
"Just some damning evidence." I shrugged.
It showed Aldrin’s DNA test, photos of her mother’s affair, and Uncle Alexander’s infertility record, which we finally obtained after talking to him about it.
Alexa would have to be dumb not to realize what all that meant. Her usual sneer turned into an indignant face, and I could only watch as her meticulously groomed life shattered as her foundation crashed.
"This is probably all bullshit. You’ve always been good at lying. You’re a liar, Eliana!" She pointed a finger at me, and all I did was blink at her.
Projecting much?
"I don’t think a person who has pretended to be a Thornhill for so many years could call me, of all people, a liar?"
My words seemed to hit her like a thunderclap. Because Alexa’s eyes immediately darted to her mother, "Mom... tell her she’s lying!"
But Ingrid’s silence was deafening.
"Tell her!" Alexa screamed, her hands trying to grab onto her mother, but with the cuffs in place, there was no room to do that.
"Mom!" She continued screaming
__
ALEXA
No one else made a sound, it was only her screams that kept on echoing back, and even her normally unstoppable mother couldn’t even open her mouth to correct that bitch.
This was an obvious lie.
That stupid bitch would stoop this low just to have her way, huh?
But even as she kept on calling out to her mother, there was nothing. She kept mum all the while.
Then she heard a low voice calling her from outside the cell.
"Alexa. Stop it."
"It’s all true."
"You!" Alexa saw her ’Father’ outside, but instead of thinking it was a good thing, all she had in mind was how they were all working to destroy her.
No one else was on her side.
Even her mom wasn’t.
"You’re saying that because you never wanted children! You just never liked us because you wanted that slut!" Alexa screamed, her face extremely red, and her veins were starting to show.
"It’s time to drop the act, Ingrid. Tell your own spawn of how you conceived her with your debt collector."
"Tha-That’s not true!" Alexa finally heard her mom, and she felt a bit better.
See? They were all just trying to pin this on her!
"We found the evidence for the tampered DNA test. And Aldrin had already given us his DNA sample. Both of them show zero relations to the Thornhills."
"Aldrin?!" It was only then that Alexa zeroed in on the teenager at the corner of the room.
"You traitor! How could you collude with these people when you know they’re just trying to discredit us? Don’t you know they’ll take away everything you have because of this stupid stunt?!"
"Sis... Please stop now. They’re telling the truth. Mr. Alexander had long been infertile. It would’ve been impossible for him to have us."
"Mom just threatened his lover’s life, which forced him to take you in."
"You’re lying! You’re just like them!" Alexa’s now seeing red.
None of this was real.
It couldn’t be like this.
But then she remembered how she could never be good at everything the other Thornhills were good at.
Her brain could never retain as much information, and she even had to fix her face and body to be like them.
To shine like them.
This cannot be happening!
"Mom! Tell them they’re all wrong!"
"Mom!" Alexa screamed until her throat was hoarse until she couldn’t do it anymore, but her mother just stayed like that.
And even as the rest of them left, Alexa still wanted to claw at her mother, trying to blame her for why she got subpar genes.
How she ruined her life for not being good enough to snag an actual Thornhill.
Until the very end, Alexa thought that it wasn’t her fault.
How could it be her fault when she deserved to be happy and fabulous?
She deserved to have it all.
What was so different between her and Eliana?
No.
Nothing.
It was only because that bitch stole what was supposed to be her life.
Yes!
That was it. It had to be that!
That night, after the detainees were sent back to their cells, maniacal laughter and sudden wailing could be heard echoing through the building.
When morning arrived, Alexa, who took pride in her physical appearance, had pulled off so much of her hair that she was balding and full of bloody patches.
Her eyes were swollen, and her lips had been bleeding as if she had nibbled on them.
And below her was her hair that she had painstakingly taken care of before.
This was what was left of Alexandra Thornhill, now being regarded as Alex Nelson.
