Yours, Until Needed -
Chapter 132: Bail-out
Chapter 132: Bail-out
ALEXA
The past days had been a cluster fuck of disasters.
From reading her Grandmother’s will, nothing seemed to be going according to plan.
By now, she had envisioned slowly crawling into Lucian’s bed and deeper into the Sinclair’s lair.
But what was this?
Not only were they excluded from the will, but they also had to watch as that bitch got awarded what was supposedly theirs?!
What was even worse was how her father just left like that. As in, he just left the house after sending Aldrin back to his boarding school.
Then her Grandfather became an even worse recluse who practically refused everyone’s attempt at holding a conversation.
Alexa felt like her clan had gone stupid. Now, she was left to deal with her dramatic mother, who kept on throwing everything she could get her hands on.
If any of them had time to go crazy, then shouldn’t they be focusing on this new crisis?
She wasn’t privy to the specifics since it wouldn’t make sense to her anyway, but her maternal uncle kept on yapping and begging for a bailout.
Grandpa was initially against it, but several of his advisors told him that not just one subsidiary needed a bailout.
That was really the extent of Alexa’s knowledge of the group’s current state. She was just a bit stressed because suddenly, their Grandpa dumped a slew of work responsibilities on her.
Alexa was being forced to accept responsibilities.
He actually asked her to work.
Saying that because her father suddenly wanted to quit and Aldrin was too young, it was now up to her to do something.
In reality, this was one of the main reasons why Alexa couldn’t go back to BCI. She wasn’t able to leave because she was forced to check several documents.
Then, when she asked why she had to do something like that when they had people for it, her Grandfather almost slapped her in anger.
It was the first time Alexa had been threatened by her Grandpa. Not even when she stole Jasper away did he give her such a look!
Has he gone senile?
Alexa hated every minute of this. It was even worse than when she worked her ass off at BCI (by her standards). Nothing even made sense to her, so she just kept on signing whatever they sent over.
Anyway, it must have been someone else’s job to triple-check the documents before they were to be handed over to her.
But about two weeks into begrudgingly toiling away, Alexa heard about the capital injection that they were about to receive thanks to a loan from this prominent Venture Capitalist firm.
In her mind, she was glad that her days of working thanklessly would finally end. Now, forgive the girl who never took real life seriously, but in her mind, the concept of loans doesn’t really exist.
She was so used to being given and handed things, including money, that to her, anything given to their company was just that—free.
And never mind being given, most of the time, she just took whatever she wanted, whether it was from the poor, the rich, or her own relatives.
So, she walked out of the headquarters without telling her Grandfather.
He was too busy to notice anyway.
Alexa resumed her lavish lifestyle, brandishing her credit card like it was her birthright.
Her days continued like that, but as an oblivious elite, she had no idea that things were actually turning out for the worse.
To her credit, she was late learning about the state of things because she hadn’t been home in a while. She decided to stay at her favorite hotel to escape her crazy mother.
Alexa’s mother was getting increasingly anxious and would often lash out at her when normally that was just reserved for their maids.
So, Alexa decided that she deserved to relax and get away from all these useless idiots.
That was a smart idea until she heard several people in suits talking about their work gossip. With the way they spoke and their boring ensembles, these people most likely worked in finance.
Alexa always found that boring and was ready to ignore them to focus on her salad when she heard them mention "The Thornhill Group."
Her ears perked up, wanting to listen more. Usually, when she heard about their clan before, it was always followed by praises and awe, so she loved throwing her weight around as Alexandra Thornhill.
But what kind of shit was she hearing now?
Alexa’s mind tried processing the implication of their gossip, and her face kept on contorting.
By the time the corporate slaves got to the discussion of Thornhill’s probable default, Alexa had already pushed up against her seat.
She ran back up to her room to try and get a hold of anyone from her family, but even as she called all the relevant numbers, no one but Aldrin answered.
And it was from the boy that she learned about what actually happened while she wasn’t looking.
Contrary to their expectations, the subsidiaries burned through the bail-out funds faster than expected. Instead of using them to make more funds, the companies had to use the funds for penalties and contract breaches.
It seems that they didn’t care much about the main contracts being pulled out or about their failure to comply with the contracts they initially signed.
The companies didn’t make a profit and couldn’t find new customers fast enough.
They actually had a month before the first interest payment was going to be made. However, the interest on the 1 billion loan was staggering for the companies that lost even more money after the bailout.
Alexa learned that their Grandfather had called a clan meeting to discuss the issue. However, instead of finding a solution, they only learned about each company’s mismanagement, which led to the problems they were currently facing.
The other relatives asked for leniency, asking the Holdings Company to temporarily settle the interest for this month or until they could gather new contracts or customers.
The Chairman was outraged but couldn’t do much as the assets leveraged in that loan were actually the assets of the Holdings Company.
They actually wanted to perform an excutive purge, but they had no time to do so when the deadline loomed.
Another option they attempted was to ask for a promissory note, but even that was just a month.
Alexa learned that they had less than a month to gather enough funds for the first repayment, or they would have to default.
She didn’t fully understand the implication, but she had an inkling of what would happen. She’s seen this back at school when some classmates would end up bankrupt after their companies folded.
There was no way she would allow herself to experience such a thing.
She vowed never to return to that dark period in her life again.
So, she tried calling her mother, hoping she’s got a plan for this. If all their relatives were incompetent, then the best choice would be for her mother to step in.
"Mom—" She opened as her call got answered, only to receive a cold response.
"Go back home. We have an emergency."
