Yours, Until Needed -
Chapter 124: Uninvited Guest
Chapter 124: Uninvited Guest
The world isn’t that fair when it comes to the day after strenuous exercises. From what I remember, both of us had a relaxing home spa treatment.
But why do I look like I’ve been to battle while my husband looks even more glorious?
His face had this enviable glow like he slept for two days and woke up without an alarm.
How unfair!
As I watched him stride towards the bathroom, I carried my grievances in my heart.
Existences like that should be illegal. It’s a bit stressful on the heart.
Lucian returned after a quick shower, and I extended my arms.
This had been a common ritual for us. He made me suffer in ecstasy the night before, so he’s inclined to take good care of me.
I was carried like a koala and sat on the bathroom counter. He handed me my toothbrush, which already had toothpaste on it, and my face wash, as if it were a ritual for him.
Honestly, if I didn’t stop him with all my might and remaining pride, he would probably carry me to the office like this, too.
It actually felt nice and was really convenient.
Unfortunately, I was a full-grown adult who could only pretend to prefer doing things on their own.
I know, ironic.
With the whole independence thing that women also loved. But as someone who’s had to face the realities of being an adult that’s supposed to be adulting, I now understand the appeal of being a storybook princess.
There are really times when we should just shut up and allow the world to take care of us. Because when you’re too competent, you just end up with too much work.
Or maybe you can get yourself a guy who could do both. With my insane bad luck, I still managed to snag one who’s just a little problematic but overall a great catch. So, pretty sure that others could do the same.
"I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I suggest you drop it."
See? A little problematic. But that’s okay. I’m a little colorblind, and I believe that the other choices weren’t even half as good as this one.
I’ve had such thoughts up until Lucian delivered me to the office. And although my waist felt sore, my mood was pretty good.
I hadn’t had time to spend my night just relaxing. But after settling the contract with Sid Miller, I’ve had a bit of room to breathe.
Now, all we really had to do was to start the training of the hotel staff, as well as look for suitable influencers and advertising companies for our upcoming opening. It wasn’t for at least three to four months, but projects like these need advanced preparation.
The advantage was that the recently cleaned local government was more cooperative with us. Given the location of our project, it was much better to hire locals than to bring over employees to the countryside.
Honestly, if ex-Mayor Joseph just used his brain, he wouldn’t have succumbed to such fate.
Or maybe not. Alyssa would’ve still wanted to take his gut, and I tend to spoil my employees, so I would’ve helped.
However, every time I get a little time to concentrate on more important things, there would be little nuances that would just refuse to pipe down.
Rats like Ingrid Thornhill.
As if it wasn’t enough that Alexa was interning for BCI, Ingrid, this bloodsucking immortal, just visited SCC to look for me.
Though if my guess were correct, she was probably hoping that I wouldn’t be there.
It was close to 3 p.m. when Oliver called to inform me that Lucian had to receive a frantic Ingrid who wouldn’t stop yapping about meeting me.
According to Oliver, Ingrid was insisting that I meet her for something very important.
"But when told that you weren’t even working at this office, that woman kept on raising her voice to announce how that was a lie and just a ploy to hide you from your family, Ma’am."
Yeah, that sounded very much like the Ingrid, I know. But considering the circumstances, I might have to talk to my parents about how far they’ve dragged the subsidiaries.
"I see, thanks Oliver. Just watch out for Lucian’s safety."
Not that I was worried about him being beaten up. What I was worried about was him just killing her outright after she’s pissed him off unnecessarily.
Ingrid Thornhill always thought that she was the most charismatic person alive. And that would obviously piss off a lot of people.
I guess it was time to call my parents.
Dad happily received my call and went on a tirade about how I was being unfair by not visiting them.
"I promise to visit soon, Dad!"
Who wouldn’t feel guilty when your Dad sounded like he’d pout until next week unless he heard a satisfactory answer?
"Good. That’s perfect. But, sweetheart, why the sudden call? Is there a problem?"
"Not yet a problem, but it would probably be one anytime soon."
I told him about Aunt Ingrid’s most recent stunt: showing up at the SCC office looking for me.
And she even claimed family ties.
People like her always just wanted to be attached to a family whose mere name screamed status.
"How much have they lost by now, Dad?"
"Hmm... at least 30%. We’ve been chipping at it slowly so that she won’t start panicking right away."
"I wonder if someone’s already noticed?" I chuckled because just the thought of any of those people noticing was like asking if they’d suddenly produce a genius.
My uncle could’ve but he’s too absorbed about God knows what, that he never seemed mentally present when doing anything.
The guy was like a zombie, so maybe he wouldn’t say anything even after noticing.
"Actually, my guess would be your Grandma’s death anniversary. I think they’re planning to use that to lure us into going."
"Then, are we planning to go, Dad?"
"We can opt not to since your Grandma would hate this fanfare more than death itself. Especially knowing that it’s nothing but a ruse to hurt her own descendants."
That was true.
Grandma would have hated all this.
"Maybe we should go," I said, realizing that Grandma wouldn’t want us hiding like thieves.
"I’ll try to figure out what she’s up to. Especially since Alexa was sent like an advanced party."
"Alexa? Did she come too?"
Oops.
I forgot to tell them about Alexa being at SCC.
"Yeah, Dad. She’s ’interning’ at BCI. It’s been interesting so far." That’s one way of saying it after the stunt she’s been trying to pull.
"Are you planning on allowing her to stay?"
"She’d leave on her own, don’t worry! She’s not on good terms with the coffee maker and the copy machine." It was amusing to hear about her attempts at working, so it’s been tolerable to have her there.
"I’m not even surprised. She’s never been one to lift her own hands."
True. However, it’s different when she’s going after a guy. And my husband just happens to be the perfect target for that.
But I don’t really have plans to tell my dad about that.
"Love you, Dad! Please tell Mom I love her too!"
"Love you too, sweetie. Tell us if you need help with Ingrid."
