Chapter 108: Break Room

ELIANA

When Alyssa found out about my personal favor, I expected her to hesitate.

This was way beyond her job description, and although I was planning on paying, she was not obligated to accept.

But Alyssa may have enjoyed her time at Loretta too much because the woman was absolutely thrilled to be doing something like this.

Or maybe it was because of Belle. Alyssa witnessed how destructive Alexa could be when left to her own devices. And having her so near wouldn’t put anyone’s heart to rest. Not when you have a venomous snake so close to you.

"Is there anything you want us to look out for?" Alyssa asked excitedly.

There are loads of things, but they’re not dumb enough not to notice such things after everything they’ve experienced.

"Alexa’s the queen of backhanded compliments. And her praises would always carry insinuations."

I distinctly remember her asking someone where she got her nose done because it looked " oh, so natural!" and how loaded the girl must be to heal that fast.

And yet, no one would hit back in fear of losing their partners within the same week.

There were even cases where guys with great morals ended up in compromising positions orchestrated by Alexa. Then, she would cry foul while the confused men tried to understand what had happened.

She loved traps. She better end up in one.

"Do we just stop her at every turn?" Asked Alyssa.

"No. She’ll notice if she keeps on failing. You’ll need to let her succeed a bit."

But it’s a good thing Lara did her research, which Oliver seems to be able to verify. If there were someone we needed to monitor, it would be Julia of the Logistics Department.

Most organizations have that one person who gets wind of something, and the whole office tends to just hear about it.

And for SCC, that was Julia.

Lara’s assessment of her character was rather neutral. She just loved the idea of gossip, but there was one important thing. This woman liked to dig around.

So, the idea was to plant the seeds of doubt and have her look for herself. Because the effect of one’s personally drawn conclusion usually held a stronger hold.

The best part about this was that Alexa wasn’t familiar with the inner workings of companies, nor did she understand the psychology of honest-to-goodness corporate "slaves."

While nepotism sounded great when discussed amongst other nepo babies, honest workers aren’t exactly thrilled about it, especially when they end up suffering because of it.

Though, understandably, nepotism would exist in the world, it still wouldn’t sit right with people when the heirs are too brainless.

Such as someone who wouldn’t be able to run the server printer by themselves.

ALEXA

The rain hammered against the towering glass windows of the corporate skyscraper, a fitting backdrop for the storm she planned on brewing.

Alexa looked at her small, unassuming desk, a far cry from her usual furniture. However, this was part of her plan. All she had to do was tolerate it for a while.

So far, so good.

It was her second day as an intern, and she wished it could end quickly—but not before she had gotten what she wanted.

After clawing her way to get access to that bastard Nicholas, there was no way she was leaving this building without Lucian dancing in her palm.

Some weeks back, Alexa reached out to the Bernards under the guise of apologizing belatedly. Obviously, that was all for show, and her initial plan was to seduce Nicholas into getting revenge on her behalf.

How hard could that be?

Fucking impossible, apparently!

Alexa had no idea why this kept on happening.

These obsessed men throw themselves on Eliana’s feet while ignoring someone like her.

She could see the logic of Lucian tolerating Eliana since they have known each other all their lives, but why was this Nicholas crazy about her, too?

What was funny was how Eliana looked like she had no idea who this guy was.

But was that really the case? And would it matter if it were true?

Of course not.

It’s the winners who write history, so even if she really had no idea who Nicholas was, how hard would it be to make it look otherwise?

Alexa carefully played with her much shorter nails, which just annoyed her more as she remembered her sacrifice for this plan.

Honestly, if she hadn’t sworn on her grave to get Eliana to notice Nicholas, that guy wouldn’t have allowed her in.

How dare he?!

But that’s for later. Once she’s done with this, she’ll also get her revenge on that guy for making her sweat for it.

Her thoughts were cut short by a woman’s call. "Ms. Alexandra? You’re the new intern, right?"

Alexa’s face remodeled to her newest facade—the eager, diligent, and ever-so-grateful new intern.

"Yes, Ma’am. That’s me. Is there anything I can help you with?" Alexa smiled, knowing that this never failed to captivate her audience, regardless of age or gender.

"Please come with me to the break room. There’s a meeting ten minutes from now, and we need to prepare the refreshments for the executives."

What?

Does she want to die?

Alexa’s mind raced as she tried to think of excuses. There was no way in hell she was preparing drinks for people. She doesn’t even prepare her own. How could they ask her to do something that lowly?

"But, Ma’am, shouldn’t I be preparing to take down the meeting minutes?" Alexa remembered how her Grandfather used to ask for something like that all the time.

"Oh, dear. That isn’t your job. That’s for the secretaries and the other assistants. But maybe you can listen in if there’s enough room." Said the woman with a sharp bob.

"I see, by the way. Ma’am, I apologize for my rudeness. I didn’t catch your name earlier?"

Alexa wanted to know this woman’s name so that she could add her to the ever-growing list. She’s probably one of those people who like bootlicking. Why else would she serve drinks if not for that?

Or maybe I could get her replaced.

Definitely fired.

She looked good enough for a lowborn, and that made her too annoying.

"No worries, I’m Janet from purchasing. I’m probably not much older than you, so there’s no need to be too formal."

In your dreams, you old hag. Alexa thought as she maintained her unfazed smile.

"I know you’re from BCI, but since we’re probably going to see each other for a while, you might want to introduce yourself to our other interns." Smiled the bob-head.

"That would be nice. It would be nice to have a few people going through the same experiences, " she replied meekly.

Then Janet pointed to the door on the far left and said, "That’s the break room. We’ll prepare everything from there."

Alexa really wanted to refuse, but she knew how important the break room would be for her plans.

Her show needed a stage and an audience, and that break room would be perfect for it.

So, Alexa schooled her face as she walked behind Janet.

Little did everyone know just how many times they would be courting food poisoning from today onwards.
