Chapter 770: Chapter 772: The Generous Mu Family, A Temporary Stay for Several Days
"I originally planned to stay for just three to five days before departing," Qin Muye thought to himself, "but his laziness kicked in. He figured three to five days might not be safe enough, and who knows, he might run into some major terror once he got there. So he ended up settling in and staying put."
On the other hand, Wang Kui was so anxious he couldn’t stand it. He came over every other day to urge Qin Muye to set off, until finally, with nowhere left to turn due to the constant nagging, Qin Muye reluctantly began his journey.
Then there were numerous delays along the way, and by the time he reached the Mu Family, a month had passed.
"How about that, you’ve put on quite a bit of weight in this time, haven’t you? It seems you’ve been living the good life," Qin Muye said to Fan Hua, who had visibly lost weight, the compliment obviously insincere.
The internal strife within the third branch of the Mu Family was resolved by a method involving the second uncle of the second branch, who got his nephew to take some medicine, and from then on, it all relied on Fan Hua to maintain.
Fan Hua swallowed, looked around warily, and after making sure nobody was there, he whispered, "Daoist, you’ve come to rescue me, right?"
"I..." Qin Muye had barely said one word before he heard a woman’s voice.
"This must be Mr. Qin that Master Fan spoke of, I’ve heard that you plan behind the screens and win victories a thousand miles away."
"With just a few words, you relied on Master Fan to resolve the conflicts within my Mu Family. You truly are talented, please come inside."
Fan Hua looked somewhat evasive. He felt as though he might be in trouble.
"I’ve met Lady Mu. Master Fan must have told you already, I’ve come to the Mu Family to collect my reward," Qin Muye immediately said.
He had no intention of getting involved in the internal affairs of the Mu Family; instead, he was here to pick up an advantage.
Lady Mu’s expression flickered. She understood Qin Muye’s meaning, a clear settlement of payment. If they dared to default on the debt, who knows what measures might follow?
It looked like he had a considerable relationship with Fan Hua.
"Oh, right. It’s really not proper to come empty-handed when visiting for the first time. I’ve brought a small token of appreciation, please accept it, Lady," Qin Muye said while taking out a stack of papers from his chest.
A servant took it and presented it to Lady Mu. She glanced at the text on it, saw it was a collection of prescriptions, and only after seeing their effects did her face light up with joy.
"You are truly thoughtful, Mr. Qin. Please take a seat," Lady Mu felt Qin Muye was sincere, but wasn’t this also a kind of threat?
She felt threatened that everything seemed perfect now, but it was all his doing, and if she didn’t get what he wanted, well, what followed might not be so certain.
Thus, it seemed best to spend money to avert disaster.
Of course, Qin Muye had no such thoughts. He just felt it was inappropriate to take advantage without giving something in return, at the very least to avoid causing Fan Hua any loss.
If the Mu Family refused to pay, that would be another story. He would take what he needed.
However, judging by Lady Mu’s demeanor, it seemed a sure thing.
"May I ask where you intend to go after receiving your compensation, Mr. Qin?" inquired Lady Mu.
"Just wandering around, really. Home is wherever I find myself," replied Qin Muye, who had no idea where to go next. It was all about cultivating the Mirror Immortal, of course.
Upon hearing this, Lady Mu also breathed a sigh of relief, as long as he wasn’t causing trouble around here.
"You truly are a carefree and unfettered individual, Mr. Qin. May I ask what you require?" Lady Mu flattered him once she got the answer she wanted, moving the conversation along.
"No problem. I’ve already made a list, although I’m not sure how much you can provide," Qin Muye promptly produced the resource listing needed by the Mirror Immortal.
Lady Mu skimmed through it, frowning slightly.
Most of the items were not particularly rare, but rather unusual, and some items, even if the Mu Family needed them, would take some time to procure.
Naturally, her frown wasn’t due to the unusual nature of these items. What really surprised her was that Qin Muye was asking for so little, which completely defied her expectations, leading her to suspect that he might have ulterior motives.
"The compensation you’ve asked for is quite modest. Do you have any other requests?" said Lady Mu, suppressing the list before speaking.
The Mu Family could be described as large in both family and fortune, otherwise, they wouldn’t be known as a major household. Even without a Daluo Golden Immortal, they were still wealthy.
Qin Muye hadn’t expected Lady Mu to say such things, but after a brief moment of thought, he realized his modest request might cause her to suspect him.
Acquiring more is naturally not a problem, but I must be careful to strike the right balance; otherwise, taking too much could lead to unforeseen issues.
"Madam is indeed generous, there are in fact some minor additional requests," Qin Muye said with a smile.
Upon hearing there were more demands, Mrs. Mu felt reassured. If it were really only these items he wanted, she feared she would not be able to eat or sleep in peace, harboring a hidden strength along with a flair for scheming against her family would definitely mean trouble.
As for killing him to keep him quiet, she had considered it, but quickly dismissed the idea; if he was bold enough to visit, he surely had precautions in place. If she made a move, the Mu Family, having just stabilized not long ago, might be plunged into chaos once again, which they simply could not afford.
"Please speak, sir. With the great kindness you have shown us, the Mu Family will certainly do its utmost," Mrs. Mu said politely after some thought.
"I require..." Qin Muye then listed a large number of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, all of which were to enhance the proficiency levels of the various Spiritual Beast Techniques within the Mirror Demon.
Based on his estimates, the quantities he listed should suffice to elevate all Spiritual Beast Techniques to the Heavenly Level, leaving a good deal of surplus.
Together with the resources, evolving into a Mirror Immortal shouldn’t be an issue.
"The items you request are somewhat obscure, and the Mu Family will need some time to gather them for you," Mrs. Mu said after pondering for a moment.
She also carefully assessed their value, and although Qin Muye’s list of Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, together with the resource list, was lower than what she had anticipated, it wasn’t off by too much.
After giving it some thought, Mrs. Mu believed that he had likely just taken the opportunity to request these items, and considering his relationship with Fan Hua, he did not ask for more.
Thus, the Mu Family could only gather the items as quickly as possible and send Qin Muye on his way.
Recruiting him was out of the question. Such a person was far too unpredictable. One misstep and the entire Mu Family could be dragged into a quagmire.
Most clans, in fact, rarely recruit Spirit Masters who practiced the Karma Dao or the Luck Dao. On one hand, they are truly rare; on the other, such Spirit Masters are not easy to get along with, as they often see too much and may become mentally unstable.
Furthermore, they might use their own methods to target the clan itself.
Another point was the complete lack of combat ability. In Mrs. Mu’s eyes, although Qin Muye had contingencies, if she really disregarded them and attacked, he would have absolutely no power to resist.
"Then... may I know how many days are needed? I have urgent matters to attend to," Qin Muye signaled that he intended to make himself scarce.
Mrs. Mu was quite satisfied with Qin Muye’s attitude, as he was truly just taking the money and leaving.
"Three days should suffice. The items you require must be procured from afar, but with the wealth of the Mu Family, three days will be enough."
"During this time, I would ask you to stay with the Mu Family to let us fulfill our duty as hosts," she added.
Mrs. Mu wanted Qin Muye out of her hair as quickly as possible, but she also understood the need for proper etiquette; if the Mu Family had everything on hand that Qin Muye required, they could indeed send him away immediately, but procurement needed time, meaning they had no choice but to offer him a temporary stay.
Had she asked him to stay in an inn or some other place, it could have offended him.
"In that case, I shall humbly accept your hospitality," said Qin Muye. He too wanted to leave posthaste to avoid complications, but with the items yet to be delivered, he had no choice but to stay.
He had a feeling that the next three days might not be peaceful.
If it had been only Fan Hua, at most there would be continuous squabbles within the inner residence, given his rather modest Main Character Aura.
But with Qin Muye’s Main Character Aura added to the mix, things were different. One thing was certain: fortune and misfortune go hand in hand. If they hoped to seize opportunities, such opportunities must present themselves first.
Especially since the Main Character Aura Fan Hua had previously overdrawn was now replenished. Otherwise, how could Fan Hua have thinned down so abruptly?
It’s just as well that the Mu Family is wealthy; otherwise, what Qin Muye would have encountered upon arrival would not have been a slimmed-down Fan Hua, but rather, a frail figure barely weighing five pounds, box and all.
"Elder Wang, please take our guest to stay temporarily at the Green Pine Residence. The scenery there is pleasant, quiet and secluded, surely suiting Sir’s taste," Mrs. Mu decided where to lodge Qin Muye after a quick thought.
The Green Pine Residence was essentially a guest room but of the highest caliber, complete with a private courtyard and servants in attendance. It was reserved for guests of significant status.
"Sir, this way, please," Wang Kui gestured with an outstretched hand, speaking respectfully.
Qin Muye had no particular preference, and since it made no difference to him where he stayed, he naturally followed Wang Kui, ignoring Fan Hua’s hesitant looks that seemed to plead for help.
