Chapter 600 -602: One Foot on the Gas, One Foot at Death’s Door
Qin Muye had a very comfortable sleep that night—the apartment looked a bit shabby, but both the bed and the environment were impeccable. It was undoubtedly a significant upgrade from the previous hostel.
He glanced at the time, 9:05 AM.
“I remember the restaurant starts at 8 AM, right?” Qin Muye recalled the schedule and was certain of one thing—he had indeed been late.
However, his broad-minded nature, although not as crystal clear as Xiao Sanzi’s, meant he knew one thing: as a chef holding core technology, the restaurant couldn’t operate without him going to work.
So he wasn’t worried about the consequences of losing his job at all.
Besides, there was a protagonist involved, who should be able to handle things. Even though the “Ghost” Talent was flawed, it was only a negative one effect—not a big deal.
Therefore, Qin Muye slowly got out of bed and left his room. On his way out, he encountered five people, one male and four females, who were having breakfast. Despite the apartment’s shabbiness, at least the food and drink were decent.
These five were having hot pot early in the morning. Due to their unpleasant interaction the previous day, they simply treated Qin Muye as if he were invisible and didn’t pay him any mind.
Qin Muye also ignored them and left the apartment on his own.
This scene shocked the five people.
“He… he just pushed the door open and left?!!” A woman expressed her astonishment.
“How is this possible? I…” the man tried desperately to open the door, but no matter what, he couldn’t. Instead, an alert popped up, which quickly calmed him down.
“That guy… is no ordinary person.”
For a moment, myriad thoughts flashed through the minds of the five, leaving them restless and creating an awkward atmosphere. Only the hot pot in front of them simmered, releasing steam, but nobody had the appetite anymore.
Qin Muye naturally didn’t care about their situation. These people were roped into the apartment as unfortunate captives, but it wasn’t his doing, so why should he help them? He would rather wait for the All World Protectors to rescue them. Besides, in terms of factions, Qin Muye was actually on the same side as “Ghost”.
After all, in this instance world, his role was that of an extra in the Abnormality faction, and it was unlikely that he’d end up supporting the All World Protector Organization.
It’s crucial to be clear about one’s faction to avoid confusion. Even if you want to be in the same faction as someone, it ultimately depends on whether they want you or not.
Huskies can mix with wolves because they look similar and are related by blood, but Qin Muye couldn’t just blend into the All World Protector Organization as the two sides naturally have a gap.
“I remember the direction should be this way. Gotta say, the repair speed is impressive.” Qin Muye looked around at the buildings. Just yesterday, one part had been destroyed by the Cyclops Oni with the Wolf Fang Club, but today it was already restored, as if someone had simply typed a few words into the code to fix everything.
It looked simple, but actually operating it must consume a lot, otherwise, why wouldn’t “Ghost” already be invincible?
As he walked, a bus suddenly drove up and stopped next to Qin Muye, opening the door.
“Could this be some kind of unknown AOE…?” Qin Muye glanced inside the bus, which carried three people and a bunch of ghosts. Clearly, these three people had been dragged into a mission by one of “Ghost’s” derivative Abnormalities.
The three were extremely surprised to see Qin Muye. They really hadn’t expected anyone to be bold enough to walk so blatantly by the road without any Protection, unafraid of being devoured by fierce ghosts.
They had seen the horrors of the fierce ghosts.
“Master, are you heading to the Garden Restaurant?” Qin Muye asked a question. He couldn’t just get on without confirming if it was his route.
Although he had been affected by the unknown AOE, it didn’t mean he had to proceed with it.
Unknown AOE isn’t necessarily damage or some kind of attack; it could also be some bizarre rules, events, or the like.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t run into these kinds of situations with his current level of presence, which was a lot lower than the average person. Walking in a crowd, he was virtually the epitome of an ordinary face, basically unnoticed by anyone.
Too bad he wasn’t in a crowd right now, so the effect was much reduced.
“Three more stops to go~” A raspy voice came from inside the bus, possibly the driver or perhaps the bus itself.
Hearing this, Qin Muye didn’t hesitate and boarded the bus, after all, he hadn’t yet received the reward for decreasing his presence.
As soon as he boarded, the bus door closed automatically, filling his nostrils with the intermingled odors of burning and decay, creating a foul stench.
“What a pity, none of the three unlucky ones have the Ghost Talent.” Qin Muye shook his head. Without the Ghost Talent, the protagonist’s gift, they were practically half-buried in their graves already.
“Master, there are no seats here, why did you let me get on this bus?” Qin Muye glanced around and then confronted the bus driver.
Who else could he confront? He would definitely find the person primarily responsible.
“No worries, no worries, I can make room for you.” The driver turned around, revealing a face charred to a crisp.
Qin Muye decisively threw a hefty punch, spinning the driver’s head back to face the front.
“Can you even drive? How were you hired? Chatting with me while driving? Forget about your salary, I’m docking this month’s bonus. Try to mess with me again, and I’ll report you for reckless driving,” Qin Muye burst out, without needing to be reasonable.
At this, the bus fell silent, especially the three hapless humans who had not expected the task to be handled this way. To just throw a punch at the driver?
And the driver hadn’t dared to fight back, knowing that when they had boarded, they weren’t just three, but ten people. During the ride, seven had died due to the ghosts’ torment.
“Do you realize your mistake?” Qin Muye pressed aggressively.
“You’re dead…” The driver hadn’t finished speaking when Qin Muye was about to make another move, only to find the driver unexpectedly stop and change his tune: “We’re going to the Garden Restaurant, just three more stops. Perhaps you could stand for a while?”
This attitude was a complete one-hundred-eighty-degree turn.
Those three humans further concealed themselves.
Just because someone looks human doesn’t mean they are? The ghosts beside them also looked human.
They knew the other party could act recklessly, but they couldn’t. If they really slapped the driver, only a pile of bones would be left of them.
It’s quite normal for ghosts to bully the weak and fear the strong; this wasn’t their first task.
“Do you think it’s right to say that? I haven’t paid, nor do I plan to, but you can’t just not treat me as a customer because I’m not paying? Have you never heard the saying, ‘The customer is God’?” Qin Muye’s remark was utterly shameless, stunning everyone and every ghost present.
After all, there are powerful ghosts, but ones combined with shamelessness are indeed rare.
“I…I…” For a moment, the driver was at a loss for words, standing cornered, and unable to argue.
In the end, he could only manage to say, “Or else, you can take my seat.”
“That’s what I was waiting for, move.” Qin Muye yanked the driver from his seat, then settled into it himself.
“Let me tell you, this was your choice. If something goes wrong later, don’t blame me.” Having said that, Qin Muye floored the accelerator.
The entire bus instantly turned into a blur, and Qin Muye knew immediately this was no ordinary bus from the sheer rush he felt.
“Wait, slow down, or the bus is going to fall apart,” the driver panicked.
Because even a hundred more presses on the accelerator wouldn’t make the bus go this fast.
He heard the bus creak, as if it couldn’t bear the speed.
“Slow down? That’s impossible. I’m already more than an hour late for work; if I slow down now, my pay will be docked.” Qin Muye added fuel to the fire, causing the entire bus to start disintegrating under unbearable stress and being swiftly engulfed in flames.
The three humans were dumbfounded. Everything had seemed normal, so why did it turn out this way? Now, all they could hope was that the bus held together, because if it didn’t, big trouble awaited.
For them, the task was to ride the bus to the final station. If the bus fell apart mid-way, how could they complete the task?
Walk to the final station on foot? That would be a certain death.
