“Ah, there’s another plot event now, should we go check it out…” Qin Muye, who was lying down, suddenly noticed the activity of a temporary skill.
“Thank you for lending a hand.” The person escorted Qin Muye back to his room, and then reported what Qin Muye had said.
“Ah, the blessing of 996, by the way, do you guys get overtime pay? If not, I suggest you take legal action for labor arbitration, we…”
“Not yet, overtime tonight,” said a nearby special task force member.
“Or is it because the cost of my identity isn’t sufficient, so you stuffed me into a supporting character role?”
“Hurry up and respond. Why are you looking at me? It wasn’t me who did it.” Qin Muye made way for them.
“Lord, the base might be busy, why don’t you go back and rest first?” A member of the special task force couldn’t contain himself any longer, knowing this batch of personnel was doomed.
“Lord, for today’s routine questioning, see if there’s anything you need?” A researcher walked in, smiling cheerily.
“Free air conditioning? That’s a big save on the air conditioning bills for the base.”
“Oh, but seriously, it really is haunted,” Qin Muye said gravely.
“Oh, ask away,” Qin Muye said slowly.
“Weird, there’s no protagonist?” Qin Muye was bewildered as he discovered that this instance world apparently had no protagonist, even though he had seen a protagonist option before.
“Let me think, the data I just got must be from some livestream channel…” Qin Muye recalled and started searching, quickly finding a livestream called Big Escape Killing, its eerie and mysterious aura slowly filling the room, making it feel cool.
“Eh, the special task force went out? Looks like they are near my area.” Qin Muye knew that plot events were not fixed, and in this instance world, they were probably related to an abnormality.
The security personnel and special task force exchanged glances before the security personnel rushed forward to open the armored vehicle’s door.
For instance, his current report included a suspected identity of being Hades’ son, and ‘suspected’ was there because Qin Muye’s words were indeed offbeat, with little corroborative evidence, and the harm was judged inconsistently, making it hard to determine the truth.
For instance, a new abnormality or an abnormality containment getting out of control, the latter didn’t happen, because Qin Muye didn’t suffer from an unknown AOE, so a new abnormality must have occurred.
After all, dealing with an abnormality requires serious discernment to determine whether it harbors good intentions or malice.
Get involved in the plot? That might basically equate to stirring up the world.
From becoming a mere individual to part of a group.
There were probably roundabout ways of inquiring about his matters, and occasionally they would even ask about Ji Shan’s affairs, although Ji Shan had been sleeping a lot recently—novelty might be exciting initially, but after the novelty wears off, sleep feels comfier.
The gist is whether to go or not, if going, “Lord Era” will buy you time, specifically waiting for you to rush there and get hit by an unknown AOE.
Of course, that unknown creature is probably just a derivative from this livestream, the real abnormality should be this livestream called Big Escape Killing.
Of course, if giving up, then proceed as usual.
And dealing with the annihilation of the special task force that went after the abnormality is another matter, although both have certain connections.
And the situation in this world is probably more extreme, or else they wouldn’t treat him as an extra, because he suspects there is neither protagonist nor supporting characters—more bluntly, this All World Protector is the protagonist, and all those researchers, special task forces, etc., are just supporting characters.
If they had been in the Horror Universe with its two major powers, they would have been played to death long ago, let alone forming such a rigorous system to ensure the safety of the entire world.
After returning to the room, Qin Muye casually turned on the TV and began searching.
The result was empty, just like a ghost vehicle.
Temporary skills might be a bit of a bother, but at least they didn’t interfere with Qin Muye’s choices, since they were just a type of identity evolution.
Why suffer an unknown AOE attack for no reason? He might be strong, but this temporary skill was clearly more troublesome than him. Anyway, he hadn’t figured out the operating principle of this thing, and why should he bother? He had a pile of work to do and no energy to spare for researching this stuff.
Even if it was an Alpha Level Abnormality, it would only be consulted when it couldn’t be resolved, and that too after various hazard assessments.
That would definitely be costly, which explained the reluctant assignment of a supporting role to him.
Qin Muye wasn’t opposed to the question; what could possibly be asked about it? It’s just casual talk.
Qin Muye recalled when he entered the Spirit Summoning World as a Supporting Character. He might have thought it was luck back then, but now he realized, it was simply because the benefits of having him as a Supporting Character were greater than having him as the lead.
Qin Muye complained, but his attention returned to the live-streamed escape killing footage in the live room. The subject seemed to be some unidentifiable creature chasing a group of people.
Qin Muye blinked and exclaimed, “Damn, it’s haunted…”
There were two fully armed Special Task Force members standing beside him, and the security personnel on duty were also tense. Though they had experienced this several times, seeing an Abnormality casually chatting with them was still nerve-wracking. The creature looked human, but there were many human-appearing entities in the Abnormalities.
They even wanted to question certain Abnormalities, but unfortunately, it was rejected because Qin Muye had never committed any acts harmful to civilization. Always honest, he could be investigated, but questioning some Abnormalities over this wasn’t worth it.
So… Qin Muye decided not to go.
Thus, it clearly wasn’t worth the cost for a harmless Abnormality.
Everyone’s expressions were solemn, knowing something was off—there was no way this vehicle could drive itself back.
He felt somewhat relieved; if he had gone, this mysterious creature would probably be running along with the group.
Listening to Qin Muye’s incessant chatter, the task force members’ brows almost twisted in irritation, not just because they were working overtime because someone decided to take a stroll, but because some people were blocking the main door, forcing admin staff, managers, and security personnel, who were supposed to switch shifts, to work overtime as well.
The person handling the Abnormality incident today was clearly not ordinary.
Think about it, Qin Muye becoming the main character, and starting the game with an Emperor Grade Heroic Spirit linked to Heroic Spirit Land; wasn’t that just an ascendant beginning?
Otherwise, how could a bunch of ordinary people possibly contain these Abnormalities?
That was exactly why they were so cautious.
After a customary inquiry, the other party left swiftly. Not much intelligence was gained, but it seemed that this Abnormal Presence. Lord had a not-so-ordinary origin, possibly involving some divine group or possessing great power itself.
It was now six in the evening. Qin Muye opened the door, ready to go for a stroll. The guard at the door jumped at the sudden move but, upon hearing Qin Muye’s plans, requested permission from the higher-ups before following him.
After deciding not to go, the temporary skill naturally quieted down.
This was going to come at a cost, of course. Not something like lifespan or physical organs but paid by their civilization. Such Abnormalities are generally causative or memetic Horror Abnormalities; asking them a question would be akin to triggering their abilities to cause harm, mostly Alpha and even Omega Level risks.
This left the counterpart momentarily frozen. This was Qin Muye’s thirty-sixth day here, living comfortably, at least in a great environment, other than the daily interrogations.
It wasn’t a big deal. Qin Muye couldn’t always stay indoors. Recently, he found these Abnormalities quite engaging, even though the All World Protector Organization didn’t allow him contact. They weren’t worried about Qin Muye getting into trouble, but concerned about the potential changes that could arise when two Abnormalities met, resonating with each other—a situation that had occurred before.
Each one was typically a classic case of being blessed by Fortuna.
While speaking, an armored vehicle raced back, its body bearing numerous scars and scratch marks.
As for rushing over after giving up, that was another matter and wouldn’t trigger the ‘Rush’ temporary skill.
As for how he found out, how would Qin Muye know? He hadn’t spread his Perception nor released the Spirit Monsters; in the current situation, the quieter he was, the longer the world would survive.
Sitting at the base’s entrance, watching the setting sun’s afterglow, he glanced at the time: “Guys, isn’t it time for you to clock off?”
