Chapter 1013: Chu and Jiang - The Wedding (Side Story)

The drums thundered, and firecrackers roared.

Red banners fluttered in the air, and crowds surged like waves.

Thanks to Red Cotton Peak, the Mount Shu Sect was always bustling, but even so, no one had ever seen the sea of clouds packed so full of people.

From the tall platform, Lin Bei’s voice rang out across the crowd.

"Today... we gather here… for my dear brother Chu Liang and the Fairy of Mount Shu, Jiang Yuebai! As well as my eldest senior brother, Xu Ziyang, and the merfolk princess, Baozhu Liange! We’re here to witness and celebrate the joyful union of these two couples!"

"It’s getting late, the guests have all arrived, and I’m sure the brides and grooms are ready by now!" Lin Bei said as he gave a sweeping wave of his hand. "Let’s welcome the two newlywed couples. Come and make your grand entrance!"

The drums thundered and music soared as mist curled through the sky. Two dragons and two phoenixes carried the four newlyweds through the air, slowly bringing them down to the ground.

The idea for a joint wedding came about because Xu Ziyang and Baozhu Liange had planned their wedding to be around the same time as Chu Liang and Jiang Yuebai’s. Since Chu Liang and Jiang Yuebai’s wedding was bound to be extravagant, any other celebration around the same date would have been completely overshadowed. Both couples had almost identical guest lists, so Chu Liang suggested they hold the weddings together.

Additionally, having companions who were going through the same thing would help ease their nerves.

"Now, will the four newlyweds please step forward?" Lin Bei called out.

Chu Liang wore a crimson brocade wedding robe, while Xu Ziyang was dressed in a deep red sword robe. Both had clearly put effort into their appearance. Their brows were sharp like blades, their hair neat and refined, and their presence calm and dignified.

After stepping down from the dragons, the two grooms walked forward side by side.

Though they looked expressionless, their nervousness and unease were plainly obvious.

After all, it was their first time getting married, and even someone like Hallowed Chu couldn’t help feeling nervous.

Lin Bei grinned. "Let me start by asking you, Chu Liang. Who is it you wish to marry?"

Chu Liang glanced at him and replied, "It’s obviously Jiangjiang."

"Then why are you standing so close to my eldest senior brother?" Lin Bei asked.

As it turned out, with the crowd watching from the high platform, Chu Liang and Xu Ziyang had ended up shoulder to shoulder out of nervousness. Meanwhile, the two brides had also huddled together on the other side, leaving a noticeable gap between the couples. None of them had realized it until Lin Bei pointed it out.

"Haha..." Chu Liang chuckled and quickly moved to Jiang Yuebai's side, while Xu Ziyang moved next to Baozhu Liange.

At this moment, Jiang Yuebai stood in a red brocade robe, the cuffs and collar embroidered with golden tassels. Her hair was piled high like snowcapped peaks, adorned with golden hairpins that swayed gently in the wind. Her skin glowed with the smooth luster of white jade.

Standing atop the high platform with her sleeves fluttering in the wind, she truly looked ethereal and transcendent, like a celestial being who had descended to the mortal world.

Yet, the gentle shimmer in her eyes showed that she was not some cold, exalted celestial being but a real woman who lived and breathed in this world.

"She's standing right next to me..." Chu Liang muttered inwardly.

Chu Liang gazed at Jiang Yuebai, momentarily dazed. In that instant, he didn’t feel like a revered Hallowed One. He felt like a young man who had once stumbled into a cave.

The flutter in his heart was no different from back then.

He took Jiang Yuebai’s hand, and in that moment, a wave of emotion surged up inside him, so strong that he nearly burst into tears. But before he could, Jiang Yuebai was already smiling, tears silently falling from her eyes.

They had fought side by side, been separated by thousands of miles, and even journeyed to the ends of the world. Yet, through it all, their love remained as strong as ever, and their bond and understanding never wavered.

"Chu Liang…" Jiang Yuebai murmured. Then she leaned in slightly and whispered, "Even after we’re married, you still have to call me Senior Sister!"

Bang, bang, bang.

In the lavishly decorated bridal chamber, red candles flickered behind gauzy bed curtains.

A heavy banging sound echoed in Chu Liang’s ears. He swallowed.

What was that sound? he thought. Oh. It's the sound of my own heartbeat.

Chu Liang's heart pounded fast and hard, as if it might burst out of his chest.

There was a saying that nothing rivaled the joy of a wedding night or placing first in the imperial exam.

Chu Liang had once been named Champion of the Assembly of Immortal Sects. He had experienced that kind of triumph before, but the joy and excitement of that moment couldn’t compare to what he was feeling now.

Jiang Yuebai sat beside him on the edge of the bed, her expression just as tense. The two of them stayed there quietly, side by side, neither making a move.

After a long silence, Chu Liang finally asked in a tone like he's testing the waters, "Why don’t we… lie down for a bit?"

Jiang Yuebai blinked and replied, "The hour’s still early, isn’t it?"

Chu Liang muttered softly, "Just lying down… we’re not doing anything…"

"Okay," Jiang Yuebai replied with a nod.

The two of them moved stiffly and slowly got to their feet. Just as they were about to lie down, the banging noise rang out again.

This time, it wasn’t his heartbeat.

A voice shouted from outside the door, "Chu Liang! Something’s wrong! Come out quick!"

It was Lin Bei’s voice.

Chu Liang had no choice but to climb off the bed. He then asked with a frown, "What is it? What’s going on?"

"Your esteemed teacher and your mother-in-law are fighting!" Lin Bei shouted from outside. "Your father-in-law can’t hold either of them back. Who else would dare step in? You’d better come deal with it!"

"My esteemed teacher?"

"My mother?"

Chu Liang and Jiang Yuebai exchanged a glance, then quickly shot to their feet. Without another word, they rushed out of the bridal chamber to handle the chaos.

The wedding banquet at Mount Shu was held on a spectacular scale. Chu Liang had summoned dozens of giant exotic beasts and hundreds of airships to hover above the sea of clouds, setting the scene for a three-day, three-night feast to entertain the guests.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds had retired to their bridal chamber, but the banquet carried on without pause.

Di Nufeng, representing the elder on the groom's side, and Bai Yuxian, the mother of the bride, happened to be seated at the same table. Perhaps a few words sparked a disagreement. With both having fiery tempers, a brief exchange quickly escalated into a full-blown brawl.

When two people like that clashed, it was like Mars slamming into Earth.

Jiang Tiankuo tried to break them up on his own, but he was no match for either of them. If Jiang Tiankuo couldn't stop them, who else would dare stop them?

After all, this was Di Nufeng, the teacher of Hallowed Chu. Even before Chu Liang ascended to the ninth realm, she had already been the most domineering presence on Mount Shu.

Meanwhile, her opponent was Hallowed Chu’s mother-in-law, a woman who had once walked out of the Divine Ruins Monastery. Rumor had it that it was the Divine Ruins Monastery that nearly wiped out the entire Jiang Family back then.

Venerable Wen Yuan of the Mount Shu Sect and Bai Wuxiang, the overseer of the Divine Ruins Monastery, were also present at the banquet. Nevertheless, seeing the two women engaged in a brawl, the two elders could only exchange glances and sigh awkwardly.

"Nothing we can do," Venerable Wen Yuan said, shaking his head helplessly.

"Haha." Bai Wuxiang took a sip of wine and said with a wry smile, "I wouldn’t dare."

And so Di Nufeng and Bai Yuxian fought from the skies all the way to the ground. In the end, Chu Liang had to step in and use his ninth-realm power to separate the two fierce women and send them each home, finally putting an end to the commotion.

By the time Chu Liang and Jiang Yuebai returned to the bridal chamber, the moon was already hanging high in the sky.

"It’s getting late. We should probably go to bed," Chu Liang told Jiang Yuebai. His cheeks looked slightly flushed, but he still said it.

"Mm…" Jiang Yuebai replied. "Just keep your hands to yourself…"

"I’ll just hold you while we sleep, I won’t do anything," Chu Liang said at once.

Jiang Yuebai nodded. "Okay."

Just as the two were about to lie down, another round of banging came from outside the door.

This time, it was Lackey A shouting, "Big Bro, you better come quick! Old Li Ba’s about to wipe out the entire Sea King Sect!"

"Huh?" Chu Liang was startled. He quickly got up and began putting his clothes back on.

As it turned out, over at the banquet for the members of the immortal sects in the Divine Nine and Terrestrial Ten, Li Shiyi of the Endless Sword Sect had gotten a little tipsy. She had never been much of a drinker to begin with.

Wenren Yan from the Sea King Sect came over to strike up a conversation. After a few friendly exchanges, he casually placed a hand on her shoulder.

Just then, Old Li Shi, Li Shiyi’s father, came looking for her. When he saw some punk trying to hit on his daughter, he flew into a rage and started beating Wenren Yan on the spot.

Later on, people from the Sea King Sect came to confront them, only to walk in on Old Li Jiu scolding Old Li Shi.

However, he wasn’t scolding him for hitting the kid. He was furious because Old Li Shi hadn’t gone far enough. In his eyes, they should’ve dealt with the root of the problem and castrated the little punk on the spot.

The leader of the Sea King Sect and his men then started fighting with Old Li Shi and Old Li Jiu right there at the banquet, but the others quickly stepped in to break it up.

When Old Li Ba heard about the incident, he scolded both his son and grandson. It wasn't because they had been too harsh, but because he believed that anyone who dared mess with his great-granddaughter should have been chopped into little pieces.

In his eyes, their response had been timid and cowardly. Even if the Sea King Sect came asking questions afterward, they could simply say the kid was already in pieces when he arrived.

And so, Old Li Ba led the forces of the Endless Sword Sect in full force toward the Sea King Sect, ready to cause trouble.

No one in the Sea King Sect was a match for him, so they hurried off to seek help from their allies in the Celestial King Sect and the Celestial Pivot Pavilion.

By the time Chu Liang arrived, several sects were on the brink of open war. Some were already preparing to summon their legendary artifacts.

Chu Liang hurried to stop them. After much persuasion, he finally got Old Li Ba to calm down and had Wenren Yan apologize to Li Shiyi, putting the matter to rest for the time being.

By the time he returned to the bridal chamber, it was already very late at night.

"Haaaaaaaaaaa…" Chu Liang let out a long breath. "There hasn’t been a single moment of peace all day."

"Get some rest," Jiang Yuebai said. "Let’s put out the lights."

"I want to leave them on…" Chu Liang replied with a smile. After being interrupted so many times, he didn’t feel nearly as nervous anymore.

Before Jiang Yuebai could respond, the sound of knocking rang out again from outside the door.

Bang, bang, bang!

"What now?!" Chu Liang called out.

This time, it was Lackey B wailing pitifully outside, "Big Bro! There was a pork knuckle left on our table, and Lin Bei insisted on fighting me for it. He even tore my bag!"

"Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!" Chu Liang roared.

With a surge of divine power, he sent Lackey B flying eight hundred li beyond Mount Shu. Then, with a sweep of his hand, he set down a restriction that sealed the chamber off from the rest of the world.

"Tonight, no one is going to interrupt our wedding night again!"

Bang, bang, bang…
