Chapter 958: Incoming Call from the Netherworld’s IP Address, Ruanruan has another mission

Chapter 958: Chapter 958: Incoming Call from the Netherworld’s IP Address, Ruanruan has another mission

Qin Ruan’s voice was steady, neither too fast nor too slow, remarkably calm.

Yet, her dark face and the self-mocking curve at the corner of her lips made Huo Anqi’s face show unease.

He reached out his little hand to pull on Qin Ruan’s sleeve, timidly apologizing, "Mom, I was wrong—"

Qin Ruan, with her unwithdrawn Nether Power, controlled her strength to pull his hand down.

As Huo Anqi was still ready to tug at her clothes, Qin Ruan rose and walked toward the door.

"Mom!"

Huo Anqi’s choked voice came from behind.

Immediately after, the door to the children’s room was pushed open from the outside.

With eyes full of anger, Qin Ruan fixed her gaze on Huo Yunjiao and Huo Yao, who had just entered through the door.

She glared at the father and son, glaring so fiercely that they blinked involuntarily, their faces filled with confusion.

"Mom, I really was wrong!"

Huo Anqi’s tearful apology rang out again from behind.

Qin Ruan hardened her heart, enduring the pain of wanting to turn back, and passed by the Third Master and Huo Yao, returning to her bedroom with full fury.

Huo Yunjiao watched her retreating back, his thin lips slightly pursed.

He set Huo Yao down on the ground, his deep eyes focused on Huo Anqi, who was sprawled on the bed, "Aqi, what did you do?"

The child had just been doted upon by Qin Ruan, and in such a short time, he had managed to irritate her.

Huo Anqi looked up at the Third Master with eyes full of pleading, brimming with tears.

He cried, "I lied to Mom."

Huo Yao stepped forward, leaning on the bedside with his hands propping up his chin, his innocent face flashing with schadenfreude, "That’s because you’re dumb!"

Adding fuel to the fire, he was particularly adept at it.

Dark annoyance flickered in Huo Anqi’s ink-colored eyes as he gritted his teeth, "Mom said that together, we have eight hundred tricks up our sleeves."

"Wait, how did this get on me?" Huo Yao’s smile faded from his face.

He straightened his body, unsure why he also caught the brunt of the anger.

Huo Anqi ignored him, continuing to look at the Third Master with a hopeful gaze, "Dad, Mom is ignoring me, she’s angry."

Huo Yunjiao sat down by the bed, patiently asking about what happened.

...

Qin Ruan who had returned to her bedroom, showed a look of displeasure.

She was struggling to contain her anger, now like a deflated balloon, a belly-full of grievance with nowhere to vent.

Her two sons looked obedient and innocent, but they had grand schemes up their sleeves, even daring to deceive their own mother.

She had no idea what else they had been hiding from her.

Qin Ruan ripped off the shawl she was wearing and carelessly threw it on the bed, with much force.

She then collapsed onto the bed, her chest heaving greatly.

The ringtone of the phone by the bed sounded, but Qin Ruan did not move, too lazy to reach for it.

The soothing melody of the ringtone did not calm the fury in her heart, instead, it added to her irritation.

She kept adjusting her emotions, reminding herself that the children were her own flesh and blood, her biological children; even if she were angry, she couldn’t very well beat them.

After a while, Qin Ruan took a deep breath and reached for the phone, the call had already been disconnected.

When she got hold of the phone and saw over a dozen missed calls displayed, she couldn’t help but curse out loud, abruptly sitting up.

The incoming number was very strange, four fours.

The IP address for the incoming calls was even stranger—it was from the Netherworld.

Qin Ruan’s lips twitched slightly, wondering since when the Netherworld had such features.

She clicked on the string of numbers and tried to dial back.

The phone had just rung once when a familiar voice came through immediately.

"Grandma, you’re really hard to find. I’ve been calling you almost a hundred times."

Hearing the Underworld King’s voice, Qin Ruan rolled her eyes and said sarcastically, "I’m not well-educated, don’t lie to me. The phone clearly shows there were only fourteen missed calls."

The Underworld King, undisturbed by being caught in a lie, replied sternly, "Is this a matter that can be calculated with numbers? I have something urgent to discuss with you, it’s extremely pressing!"

Qin Ruan did not go along with his appeal and asked curiously, "Since when did the Netherworld have two-realm communication devices? How come I wasn’t aware of such convenience?"

The Underworld King replied irritably, "It’s been available for ages. This isn’t something just anyone can enjoy. You should be grateful."

"I don’t want to be grateful, nor do I want to talk to you."

Qin Ruan truly felt that whatever the Underworld King wanted from her couldn’t be good.

The Underworld King chuckled, "Whether you want to listen or not, you have to, because this concerns your ultimate dream in life."

Qin Ruan’s eyelids dropped slightly, and she spoke in a flat tone, "Oh? I wasn’t aware I had any grand dreams."

The Underworld King himself started to laugh, drawing out his words leisurely, "To grow old with San Ye, surrounded by your children and grandchildren."

Qin Ruan felt a critical hit at her weak spot and her calm expression vanished.

She took a deep breath and cut to the chase, "What exactly do you want from me?"

"To capture Puppets!"

The Underworld King was just as straightforward.

Qin Ruan narrowed her eyes, which shone with a cold light, and a curve of disdain formed at the corner of her lips as she said unenthusiastically, "Do you even know it’s the Spring Festival in the Human Realm now?"

"I know, but when some are rushing to their own demise, you can’t just ignore it. If you want to live a long life surrounded by your descendants, you can’t be lazy."

The bedroom door was pushed open, and the elegantly poised Huo Yunjiao walked in.

His expression was tender as his gaze settled on Qin Ruan, the amiability of his smile soft yet stunning.

Seeing San Ye, Qin Ruan’s eyes lit up slightly. She told the Underworld King on the other end of the phone, "I’ve recently been grounded and can’t leave the house."

After saying this, she turned on the speakerphone on her phone.

The Underworld King’s voice emanated from the speaker, filling the quiet bedroom.

"No problem, I trust in your abilities. You’ll surely be able to coax San Ye into letting you go out. Remember, life is precious, and missing this chance could lead to a lifetime of regret. You wouldn’t want to be separated from your husband and children in a few years."

Huo Yunjiao’s gently smiling lips slowly faded away. He walked up to Qin Ruan, took the phone from her hand, and spoke in a slow yet dangerous tone, "Separated by life and death?"

"That’s right, without the Evil Qi, you only have....."

...waiting for death on your hands.

Suddenly, the Underworld King stopped speaking.

Qin Ruan stretched out her neck and glanced at the phone held by San Ye.

Good, the call was still connected.

"Ah, Qin Ruan, I suddenly have a batch of Evil Puppets to handle over here. Think it over and call me back when you’re ready."

The Underworld King, realizing Huo Yunjiao was on the line, hastily finished speaking and hung up the call.

His speaking speed was fast, his voice revealing turmoil and unease, lacking the arrogance he usually had in front of Qin Ruan.

Huo Yunjiao placed the phone on the nightstand and sat down next to Qin Ruan, narrowing his eyes and asking, "That disagreeable Underworld King?"

Ming Tianheng in the Netherworld, who at that moment had no idea that in his master’s eyes, he was considered an unlikeable man, would have been filled with regret if he knew.

Qin Ruan lay back on the bed again, speaking as if she was resigned to her fate, "Who else but him? The Underworld King is nothing but a skinflint working me to the bone!"

Her posture relaxed, exuding a carefree and comfortable ease that was very soothing.

Huo Yunjiao leaned over to lie beside her, propping his head up with one hand, his deep and gentle eyes focused on her delicate face.

"Is Ruanruan already restless staying at home on the first day?"

He did not see any aversion in Qin Ruan; instead, he caught a glint of excitement in her eyes, as if she was eager to try something.

Qin Ruan denied it stubbornly, "Not at all."
