Young Master Is Being Jealous Again! -
Chapter 826: What if saving him compromises your lifespan?
Chapter 826: Chapter 826: What if saving him compromises your lifespan?
Qin Ruan hurried with Huo Yunjiao to the guest room, where only the dying Yan patriarch and the still-unconscious Yan Xirong laid in bed. Dr. Chen tactfully made himself scarce.
The old patriarch leaned feebly against the bed, his turbid and stubborn eyes expectantly gazing at the doorway.
As Qin Ruan came into view, those murky eyes blossomed with astonishing light.
"Anyu..."
The old man voiced the name of his youngest daughter.
Shock contracted Qin Ruan’s pupils, as she clearly saw a thick, dark mist of dark Qi enveloping the other’s body. She quickly stepped beside the bed, ignoring the peculiar pain in her own body.
She couldn’t understand why such a change had taken place in just a few hours, "What’s happened to you?"
When the Yan patriarch saw Qin Ruan approaching, clarity returned to his mind, and knowing she was not his youngest daughter, the affection in his eyes only deepened.
A pallid smile appeared on his ashen face, "Lord Yama calls, one’s death approaches."
Something was wrong!
Qin Ruan grasped the old man’s wrist, where below her fingertips, the pulse was faint, flickering in and out of existence.
Her slender fingertips released strands of Nether Power, probing into his body and detecting a familiar, malevolent force.
It was clearly the same power that had been in Yan Xirong before.
"Why is this happening?" murmured Qin Ruan, her brow furrowed in concern.
The Yan patriarch knew his time was short and grasped her hand in return, "Child, though you bear the Qin name, you are Anyu’s daughter, you are of Yan blood, I am your maternal grandfather. You’ve married into the Huo family, and there’s not much I can give you."
The Yan family established two luxury brands in Northern England, encompassing jewelry, fragrances, clothing, leather goods, and watches, all exuding elegance and grandeur. While they may not be renowned worldwide, they certainly draw countless admirers.
These two brands generate billions of US dollars in profit every year, and today, I’m giving them to you as your dowry. Your uncles will give you some other things, don’t hold back with them..."
Qin Ruan couldn’t take in any of this, as she was caught in a dilemma.
The old Yan patriarch was her biological maternal grandfather, already gravely ill, and now he had been affected by the Evil Qi that had escaped Yan Xirong, all because of her.
Saving him might put Third Master at risk.
If she didn’t save him, she couldn’t be at peace.
It wasn’t that she had deep feelings for the patriarch; after all, he was her mother’s biological father.
They had only just acknowledged each other, and now they were facing the prospect of being separated by life and death.
Moreover, the old patriarch had been a force to reckon with in his own right. His life was not meant to end here. If it wasn’t for the fact that he’d been by Yan Xirong’s side every day, the Dark Evil Energy from the latter wouldn’t have harmed him.
Qin Ruan clasped the old patriarch’s wrist tightly, the stress on her face clear to all present, their expressions varying.
Huo Yunjiao was perhaps the one who understood Qin Ruan the best. He knew that she was considering doing something, yet was torn for some reason.
He walked to Qin Ruan’s side, his hand covering hers, "Ruanruan?"
If the girl didn’t loosen her grip soon, the old man’s wrist was going to break.
Not noticing that the old man was sweating profusely and staring at her with a pained expression.
The Third Master’s call brought Qin Ruan back from her reverie.
She turned her head, a complex look in her eyes as she met Huo Yunjiao’s gaze.
The Underworld King had mentioned that by changing the fate of others, she was consuming the Third Master’s life.
Should she save the old patriarch?
Huo Yunjiao caught the guilt, hesitation, conflict, and reluctance in Qin Ruan’s eyes.
A faint smile curved the corners of his lips as he pulled Qin Ruan’s hand away from the patriarch’s, patting the back of her hand, "Ruanruan, you have a way to save Old Yan, right?"
Let’s not mention how Qin Ruan’s heart jumped wildly upon hearing this, her thoughts in disarray and her emotions instantly tensed.
The Yan Family father and son, upon hearing these words, also found it difficult to remain calm.
Yan Xihu rushed in front of Qin Ruan, almost wishing he could shake his niece’s shoulders and ask her if she really had a way to save her father.
He hadn’t even stretched out his hand when it was stopped by a fierce look from Lord Huo.
Qin Ruan gathered her nerves and clearly heard herself ask calmly, "What if he can be saved, and what if he cannot?"
She had already analyzed the pros and cons of saving Master Yan clearly, but she still couldn’t decide.
Huo Yunjiao’s smile deepened at the corners of his lips, his eyes dark and indulgent, "Master Yan is your relative, if you can save him it would naturally be a good thing."
Qin Ruan’s emotions were incredibly complex; Lord Huo simply didn’t understand what saving Master Yan actually meant.
She then asked, "What if saving him harms your lifespan?"
Both Master Yan and Yan Xihu drew in a sharp breath.
The profound implications of Qin Ruan’s words were truly shocking.
She had both indicated that she could save someone, and revealed that in doing so, Lord Huo would inevitably be involved.
Huo Yunjiao, however, did not take her words to heart, as saving someone would harm her, not him.
He thought she was merely making a hypothetical list, and said in a light tone, "It’s just a matter of lifespan, not a loss of life."
Qin Ruan’s brow furrowed tighter, the lines growing deeper.
Suddenly, fragmented images burst into her mind, a desolate world devoid of sunlight, so quiet it was oppressive, and a lone figure in a black robe filled with solitude abruptly entered her thoughts.
Her heart clenched in pain, overwhelmed with sadness.
Before she could mull over it, the figure disappeared without a trace from her mind.
Qin Ruan shook her head forcefully, desperately trying to cling to the fading image, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall.
It was as if some memories had been tampered with, leaving a void.
"Ruanruan?" Huo Yunjiao’s concern reached her ears. Qin Ruan’s eyes regained their clarity, meeting his deeply locked gaze upon her.
She shook her head, "I am fine."
Huo Yunjiao’s lips were tightly pressed, he said softly, "If it’s too much of a strain..."
The unspoken part of his sentence was already clear.
He didn’t want to pressure Qin Ruan, but he feared that if she didn’t save the person today, she might regret it for the rest of her life.
No one could see Qin Ruan more clearly than he could; this girl seemed cold-hearted, but she had a significant protective instinct when it came to family.
Qin Ruan’s expression wasn’t looking good, but in a few moments, she had made her decision. With a determined and bright look and a guilty gaze fixed on Lord Huo, she spoke softly, "I’ll give it a try, but you need to be by my side."
Fearing that Lord Huo would cough up blood somewhere she couldn’t see, afraid that he would once again endure that pain alone.
Only by keeping someone under close watch could she feel at ease.
Huo Yunjiao responded with a smile, "Good—"
Master Yan and Yan Xihu were overjoyed upon hearing Qin Ruan’s words.
If they could live, who would willingly face death?
Moved by excitement, a hint of red appeared on the old master’s pale face, but the aura of death around him had not diminished.
Qin Ruan let go of Huo Yunjiao’s hand, turned to face Master Yan, her eyes resuming their usual coldness, her voice clear and chilly, "Life and death are fated; all I can do is remove the external life-threatening factors from your body. As for the rest, it depends on how much longer you have on the Underworld King’s Book of Life and Death."
She could save someone; she would do what she could, and she would never inflict more pain on Lord Huo.
