Chapter 822: Chapter 822: Time Flies, Memories of a Thousand Years Reappear in the Mortal World
Yan Xihu’s hand fell through the air, and a look of astonishment crossed his face. His younger brother’s extreme reaction weighed heavy on his heart, his brows and eyes set with solemn gravity.
He spoke with a grave voice, "Xirong?"
Taking a deep breath, Yan Xirong’s hand by his side trembled, and he dared not meet his elder brother’s eyes. "Jennifer is a puppet driven by the Black Feather Sect. Each time she feeds on my essence... the color of the Black Feather Totem on her body darkens, and I can feel it draining my life away," he explained, struggling to maintain his composure.
Yan Xihu clenched his teeth, his voice heavy with concern, "Why didn’t you tell us before?"
Yan Xirong’s fingertips trembled slightly as he pulled his clothes down, trying to cover the hideous totem, and he said softly, "Telling you would have only added to your worries."
His tone, nonchalant and seemingly indifferent, inflamed Xihu’s anger. "Do you think we wouldn’t find out just because you’re keeping it a secret?"
Even Yan Yiqi’s expression darkened, anger brimming in his eyes due to his son’s hidden truth.
The Huo family had departed at some unknown time, leaving Huo Yunjiao sitting on the sofa inside the house.
With long lashes slightly drooped, his distant and cold gaze, usually hidden, was now fixed on the mobile phone in his hand, lost in thought, it was unclear what he was looking at.
Hearing Yan Xihu’s angry voice, Huo Yunjiao lifted his head and glanced at Qin Ruan.
Seeing she was all right, he lowered his head again, his gaze returning to the phone screen.
As Yan Xirong pulled down his clothes, Qin Ruan stepped forward and pressed his hand to stop him, her voice cold, "Take off your clothes!"
The moment he had relaxed, Elder Huo suddenly looked up, his cool eyes narrowing slightly with an unusual expression flickering within.
"Ruanruan, you shouldn’t touch this thing!"
Unaware of what Qin Ruan intended to do, Xirong voiced his apprehension in a flustered and urgent tone.
Huo Yunjiao could only see Qin Ruan’s back, not knowing what she was planning, but discerning the caution and seriousness in Xirong’s voice, he quickly stood and walked towards her.
Qin Ruan’s lips curled into an emotionless arc, her keen fox-like eyes fixed on Xirong, "Will you do it yourself, or shall I help you?"
There was a clear implication she would act on her own if he refused again.
Xirong held Qin Ruan’s hands with both of his, fearful that she might actually proceed.
The two stood in a deadlock, neither willing to back down.
With limited patience, Qin Ruan forcefully shook off Xirong’s hands and raised her hand to start stripping their uncle’s shirt.
Just as she reached out her hand, a body lacking much warmth pressed up against her from behind.
Huo Yunjiao extended a hand to stop Qin Ruan’s movement, leaning down to whisper by her ear with a gentle voice, "Let me do it."
Even if the man was her uncle, it was not acceptable for his wife to undress someone else.
Seeing disapproval in the elder’s eyes, Qin Ruan tilted her head, a slight arch in her brow, "Sure."
With someone volunteering to help, she was more than happy to oblige.
Xirong watched Huo Yunjiao approach, a sense of oppressive aura emanating from him, and fearing what was to come, he felt extreme shame as an elder.
The thought of being stripped in front of his father and brother was utterly embarrassing.
He couldn’t remain calm and collected but could only raise his hands in surrender, "Stop! I’ll do it myself!"
Huo Yunjiao, displaying excellent manners, raised his hand in a gesture suggesting he should proceed as he wished.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone in the room, Xirong removed his shirt, revealing the clear Black Feather Totem on the right side of his chest.
Bending down, Qin Ruan closely inspected the black feathers and the vine on the sword at the center of the totem with focused eyes.
The more she observed it, the more malicious it seemed, and she could sense a faint power swirling around the totem.
Xirong backed away, fearing Qin Ruan might touch the totem on his body. He explained, "This is the Black Feather Sect’s totem. It holds a dark power. Jennifer said that unless a high-ranking member of the Black Feather Sect takes action to erase it, the only thing waiting for me is death."
Qin Ruan furrowed her brow and asked, "How long has it been?"
Yan Xirong: "It’s been over a week."
Qin Ruan rubbed her fingertips, feeling somewhat eager to act.
Without touching the pattern, one couldn’t know the power it contained, nor would one know how to take action to resolve it.
Yan Xirong’s strong aversion made it difficult for her to intervene.
Qin Ruan had a flash of inspiration and stood up straight. She walked over to Huo Yunjiao’s side and tiptoed to whisper into his ear.
No one knew what she said, but Huo Yunjiao first looked surprised, then nodded calmly.
Knowing Yan Xirong’s condition was bad, Qin Jingcen walked over with Qin Mei’s arm in his: "Ruanruan, is it very troublesome?"
He knew his sister’s abilities and could tell from her expression that the matter was complicated.
Qin Ruan smiled at Qin Jingcen, her tone relaxed: "Not too bad."
Qin Mei moved closer, frowning as he spoke softly: "You have to protect yourself first when saving others; the old man is very worried about you."
"I know."
Just as Qin Ruan finished speaking, gasps of surprise came from behind her.
"What are you doing?!"
The voices of both Yan Yiqi and Yan Xihu, carrying anger, rose simultaneously.
While the Qin siblings were talking, Huo Yunjiao walked to the bedside and, catching Yan Xirong off guard, chopped at the back of his neck.
The already weak Yan Xirong fainted instantly.
Knowing Huo Yunjiao had succeeded, Qin Ruan approached the bed with a smile in her eyes.
Ignoring the hostility from Yan Yiqi and Yan Xihu towards Huo Yunjiao, she reached out to touch the pattern on Yan Xirong’s right chest.
The moment her fingertips touched the warm skin, Qin Ruan felt a cold chill, along with an overwhelming malice, fierce energy, and strong murderous Evil Qi.
Before Qin Ruan could differentiate them, fragmented images flashed through her mind.
Tens of thousands of desolate ruins and bleak mountains invaded her thoughts unexpectedly. Each cold, barren peak was engraved with dense scribblings.
The lonely, mournful atmosphere was so oppressive she struggled to breathe, a sight that anyone would find deeply depressing and sorrowful.
The loneliness, resentment, sorrow, longing, and poignant sadness emanating from the countless barren mountains seemed to seep into the marrow, rippling through Qin Ruan’s heart.
Tears pooled in her clear eyes, and a mix of pain, shame, guilt, heartache, sadness, and suppression emerged from the depths, washing over her like a tidal wave.
The silent, desolate places devoid of any sign of life could drive one mad, making one want to scream at the top of their lungs to release their voice.
Qin Ruan’s complexion turned deathly pale, her fists clenched, and her delicate features twisted with suppressed pain.
However, the images she witnessed in those brief seconds were quickly severed by a force.
With a loud bang, Qin Ruan was repelled by the force released from the Black Feather Totem on Yan Xirong’s chest.
She stumbled backward and collided with Huo Yunjiao who was standing behind her, and the two fell to the ground in a heap.
The sound of that impact was of Huo Yunjiao’s head hitting the floor of the room.
Qin Ruan fell into arms that smelled of heavy wood, and she heard a painful intake of breath by her ear.
Realizing who was beneath her, she pulled away from the arms that had tightly encircled her waist in the face of danger and quickly got up to kneel on one knee beside Huo Yunjiao.
Brushing aside the brief, strange memories that had surfaced in her mind, Qin Ruan looked down at Huo Yunjiao lying on the ground with concern in her eyes: "Third Master, are you alright?"
Her voice trembled with unease, and the fear that lingered from before had not completely dissipated.
