Chapter 816: Chapter 816: Life and death are predestined, but your fate shouldn’t end here.
"What? Anyu is dead?!"
Yan Xihu’s eyes turned red as he stepped forward and grabbed Qin Mei by the collar to question him.
Qin Mei glanced at him, a mocking sneer in his foxy eyes, and coldly chuckled, "My mother’s life or death has nothing to do with you!"
The nameless anger and rejection inside him made his handsome face look unpleasant.
When his mother passed away, he was young, and the only kinship between mother and son, now recalled, turned sour.
It was because before Yan Anyu died, she was in a pitiable state, wasting away on her sickbed, and until her last breath, she worried about her sister who hadn’t come home, dying with her eyes still open.
Now, suddenly, her family appears, and inside him lurks a nameless rage to blame.
The power of the Yan Family in Northern England, as Yan Xirong had earlier described to him, was clear enough; they even married a princess from the Royal Family, showing they could command the wind and summon the rain.
If they had found his mother earlier, perhaps his little sister could have come back home sooner, and their mother wouldn’t have died with such resentment.
Qin Mei and Qin Ruan were twins, both inheriting the looks of Yan Anyu, or rather, the Yan Family’s dominant traits.
Yan Xihu, looking into Qin Mei’s cold eyes and sensing the distance there, remembered his little sister’s angry and resistant demeanor when she learned of her arranged marriage with the Royal Family’s prince.
Qin Ruan stepped forward and pried Yan Xihu’s fingers off her second brother’s collar, one by one.
She pulled Qin Mei behind her, and with her deep, shining black eyes looked towards Yan Xihu, speaking indifferently, "Our mother was in poor health and has been dead for many years."
Yan Xihu’s eyes welled up with red, and, as if losing his soul, he staggered back several steps, murmuring non-stop, "How is that possible, how could..."
He hadn’t even fully savored the joy of finding his little sister before he was plunged back into a painful abyss, its torment churning like a tempestuous sea.
Qin Ruan didn’t soften at his grief. She asked, "Jennifer is involved with the Black Wings Church and the Brucester Family; does she still have any use for the Yan Family now?"
If not, she was ready to deal with her as well.
Yan Xihu, suppressing the sadness from the sudden news of his sister’s death and redirecting his anger towards Jennifer, said in a deep voice, "The Black Wings Church spreads across the West, and the Brucester Family has always been at odds with the Yan Family. Jennifer is just a scapegoat they pushed forward; to them, she is insignificant, and the Yan Family is determined to seek retribution for being cornered."
Qin Ruan’s expression brightened, and she nodded, "In that case, I will send her away now."
She hadn’t forgotten the birthday party the Huo Family had held for her; once she finished up here, she still had to show her face at the party.
The Huo Family’s etiquette has always been beyond reproach; she couldn’t let it be tarnished because of repeated mistakes on her part.
Qin Ruan’s slender and fair hands skillfully formed a seal; her red lips slightly parted, "The Ten Yamas teach me to slay ghosts, empower me with divine tactics, lead my relentless assault. What god will not submit, and what ghost dare to stand in the way? Ten Yamas, I command you swiftly like an edict; exterminate the evil!"
Her slightly hoarse voice was low and forceful, creating an oppressive presence that swept across the vast space.
The sound of heavy chains dragging on the floor arose, growing louder as it drew nearer, and the room was rapidly filled with dense black evil energy.
Qin Ruan’s eyes turned towards the approaching Ghost Envoys, her red lips holding a subtle smile, "I must trouble you two to make a trip for me. This puppet is called Jennifer, she was from Northern England. Since she committed the crime of murdering others on the land governed by the Underworld King, logically speaking, the Netherworld has the right to detain such a foreign soul, isn’t that so?"
The two envoys standing a meter away immediately bowed with their hands clasped, and hastily agreed.
The one on the left even said angrily, "Any evil spirit who dares to harm our people, regardless of their domain or race, will be sent to the Eighteen Layers of Hell to receive their deserved punishment."
Qin Ruan nodded in satisfaction, "Good. Then please take this puppet away. She harmed my family with vile and shameless methods; I trust each of the Ghost Envoys in Purgatory are skilled, yet I don’t wish for her to die too easily."
The two envoys understood and promptly expressed their stance, "Miss Qin, rest assured. We will make sure this puppet understands how formidable the Eighteen Layers of Purgatory are."
Those words resonated with Qin Ruan, knowing the envoys below would pay special attention to Jennifer.
She flashed a smile and bowed in thanks, "Then I am much obliged."
The Ghost Envoys dared not accept such gratitude, and swiftly stepped aside, "Miss Qin is too kind."
Jennifer’s soul quivered uncontrollably when the Netherworld envoys appeared, crushed by their chilling aura to the point that she couldn’t speak.
As the two envoys approached, she felt a chilling intent to kill emanating from them, and her soul kept retreating.
Seeing the envoys capturing Jennifer, Qin Ruan casually withdrew the Golden Whip that was restraining her.
Jennifer turned to flee, but in the next instant, the envoys snatched her up like catching a chicken.
Having captured the Puppet, the Netherworld envoys turned to Qin Ruan and bowed before taking their leave.
After they left, the vast living room once again brightened.
Qin Mei, Lu Yichen, Lin Hao, and Huo Zhi were already accustomed to such occurrences.
Yan Xihu’s face was filled with shock, terror flashed in his eyes, and his gaze towards Qin Ruan was filled with panic and unease.
He wasn’t an atheist, nor was he religious, but he knew of the existence of Heavenly Masters in the East and had only a superficial understanding of metaphysical matters.
Until Jennifer’s arrival shattered all his understanding.
Now, looking at his newly discovered niece with the ability to communicate with Puppets and interact with ghosts from the Netherworld, one could imagine the complexity of his feelings.
After dealing with Jennifer, Qin Ruan’s eyes fell on Yan Xirong, who was still unconscious. His complexion was ashen, but his breathing had slowly stabilized.
She looked up at Yan Xihu, "Yan Family Head is at Huo Family’s place, his health isn’t good and he vomited blood. Do you want to wait for him at the hotel, or come with me to Huo Family’s place?"
"Father..." Yan Xihu’s mind seemed to explode in that instant, nearly unable to speak.
His father was not well and was in a dangerous limbo at the edge of life, which they had been warned about numerous times by the family doctor on their way back to the country.
If it weren’t for his younger brother, his father should be lying in a hospital right now, receiving treatment from the best medical team.
Qin Ruan couldn’t bear to meet Yan Xihu’s reddened eyes, averted her gaze, and softly said, "The old man is alright for now, and the hotel isn’t too safe at the moment. I suggest it’s best if you come with me to the Huo Family’s place."
"Okay!"
Worrying about his father and younger brother, what else could Yan Xihu do but agree?
He clapped his hands three times in the room, and several tall, muscular men with different hair colors and pupils rushed out from the neighboring room, all dressed in black.
These well-trained men stood in front of Yan Xihu; from their every move, it was apparent they were skilled fighters.
Yan Xihu ordered in a deep voice, "Pack up, we’re leaving now."
At his command, the men sprang into action.
Yan Xihu approached Qin Ruan and explained in a low voice, "They are the Yan Family’s bodyguards. Jennifer kills without batting an eye; to prevent further casualties, I had them stationed in the next room."
Qin Ruan gave him a glance and said with a half-smile, "Aren’t you afraid that Jennifer would kill you?"
Yan Xihu touched the red cord around his neck, revealing a cracked Jade Pendant, "This amulet my father got for me. With it, Jennifer can’t take my life."
He took off the Jade Pendant, which had several cracks, and sighed, "Now that the jade is broken, had you come any later, I fear I would have perished here."
Qin Ruan’s clear and unfathomably deep eyes sized up Yan Xihu, and after a long while, she stated flatly, "Life and death are predetermined, and it was not your time to die."
Yan Xihu forced a smile; there was no such thing as a predestined life.
The fear of death that he experienced earlier still haunted him: that feeling of desperation, helplessness, only waiting for death, was likely to cast a shadow over the rest of his life.
Had it not been for Qin Ruan showing up, not only would his corpse be cold by now, but he likely would have been long devoid of breath.
