Chapter 688: Chapter 688: Although He is Not Human, Qin Jingcen is Truly a Dog!
Upon learning the significance of the bracelet, Hu Yixian rejected it uncomfortably, "Uncle, I can’t accept this!"
Let alone whether the jade bracelet is valuable, its meaning is too significant.
He’s not Qin Jingcen’s true partner, so he would feel guilty accepting it.
Qin Anguo insisted on giving it to him: "Boy, just take it, don’t feel embarrassed. All you need to do is live a good life with Jingcen."
Fearing regret, he walked towards the hall after giving the gift.
Hu Yixian held the jade bracelet in his hand, looking at Qin Jingcen helplessly.
The latter held out his hand and said quietly, "Give it to me."
Hu Yixian handed the red-cloth-wrapped jade bracelet to Qin Jingcen’s hand, as if he was holding a hot potato.
The two didn’t go back to the room but headed for the car park.
After a few steps, young master Qin gave a cold glance back at Hu Yixian.
Suddenly he said: "It’s easy to hail a cab here."
"Huh?" Hu Yixian was completely confused.
Qin Jingcen raised his brows and smiled: "Now that everything is resolved, you’re not planning to go back to the company with me, are you?"
Hu Yixian finally got it. Was he being used and discarded?
He forced a smile, unable to believe it: "Are you telling me to take a cab and leave?"
Although young master Qin didn’t respond, his eyes had already spoken volumes.
His disdainful look was akin to a used rag, as if he was saying ’you’re a nuisance, don’t appear in front of me’.
Hu Yixian clutched his chest, moaning: "I’ve chosen my friends poorly!"
He might not be a human, but Qin Jingcen is genuinely a dog!
Young master Qin jingled his car keys and smiled: "I don’t mind taking you to the company, just to cement your current status."
"I guess not, boss. See you later."
Hu Yixian sped off, running as fast as a fleeing rabbit.
His slippery defense and escape made young master Qin chuckle where he stood.
...
The underground fighting ring.
Qin Ruan was stopped at the entrance and learned that the place was members-only.
Just as she was preparing to call her uncle, a familiar face appeared before her eyes.
Bei Jinzhou walked slowly towards her, bowing slightly and respectfully said: "Madam Huo, my mistress invites you inside."
Qin Ruan eyed him coldly and detached, assessing him from head to foot: "Did Su Jingshu send the previous photos to me?"
Her assertion was undeniable.
Bei Jinzhou remained silent, staring at her quietly.
His silence amounted to a tacit admission, and Qin Ruan understood that.
She chuckled coldly: "It seems that Miss Su leads a leisurely life." Her voice was full of mockery.
Bei Jinzhou stepped aside, making a gesture of invitation: "Madam Su, please."
Qin Ruan huffed meaninglessly, and walked into the ring with easy strides.
They took an elevator straight to the second floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, excited screams filled the air.
Qin Ruan stepped out of the elevator and walked towards the glass railing of the corridor ahead.
From where she stood, she had a clear view of the ring below.
A winner had been decided below, and the audience was shouting and yelling, their words filled with curses.
Qin Ruan swept her indifferent gaze over the ring.
A man in black shorts was being pinned to the ground by an opponent with shoulder-length hair, using both hands and feet.
The man with long hair had skillfully bypassed his opponent from behind, taking a controlling side-position to execute a strangling move.
This strategy saps all the strength from the opponent, making it nearly impossible for them to regain their original attacking stance.
The man, now pinned on the fighting stage, robust in physique, had a defiant look on his face, convincing anyone that he could turn the tables if given the slightest chance.
If the man with long hair manages to keep his opponent pinned for long enough, he could easily tire him out, ensuring his victory in this round.
Qin Ruan laid her hand on the railings, her fingers idly scratching the glass.
A sense of excitement seemed to bubble within her veins.
A light footstep could be heard approaching from behind.
Qin Ruan turned to find herself met by the mocking eyes of Su Jingshu.
In this brutal and bloody arena, Miss Su, of noble bearing and elegant composure, carrying the faint scent of books about her, felt strangely out of place.
Su Jingshu, with a warm smile on her face, dropped her eyes, looking directly at Qin Ruan’s belly.
She teased, "Madam Huo, your belly has grown quite large, yet you are still up for games?"
Qin Ruan replied with a calm look from her tranquil, deep-set eyes.
Su Jingshu moved beside her, her lips curved in a taunt: "Does it make you unhappy knowing his lordship keeps other women?"
The spite in her words was naked, unabashed and on clear display.
"He wouldn’t." Qin Ruan finally broke her silence.
Her voice, crisp and cold, just like her demeanor, gives people a frosty feeling.
Su Jingshu frowned, cocking her head to look across at Qin Ruan: "Even after seeing the photographs, you still don’t believe it?"
"His lordship is not that kind of man." Qin Ruan repeated her previous statement.
She pulled her hand back from the railing, with a hint of coldness in her voice, she asked, "In which room is his lordship?"
Though she believed him, she still felt the need to quash any future situations like this. She would have to see him.
Su Jingshu hadn’t expected that despite obvious evidence, Qin Ruan could still trust Lord Huo unconditionally.
She stared unwaveringly at Qin Ruan, her voice low: "Almost all men are unfaithful. Where does this confidence of yours come from that his lordship will not find another woman behind your back?"
Qin Ruan casually adjusted her windbreaker.
Her eyes were filled with cold determination, but her voice remained calm: "Su Jingshu, in your eyes, what kind of person is his lordship?"
Su Jingshu responded without hesitation: "He’s the heir of the Huo Family, the leader of the new generation of the Capital’s Aristocratic Family."
Qin Ruan shook her head: "No, you’re wrong."
Su Jingshu furrowed her brows: "What do you mean?"
Qin Ruan began slowly: "His lordship is highly intelligent and principle-driven. He always knows what he wants and can objectively analyze the severe consequences of unfaithfulness in a marriage.
As long as our marriage is intact, he will never betray it. Moreover, I believe that before he met me, there were plenty of temptations just like now. If he managed to remain loyal back then, I believe he can continue to do so after marriage."
Though Su Jingshu understood every word Qin Ruan said, she could not comprehend where her confidence stemmed from.
She shook her head in denial: "What you’re saying lacks logic. Men are naturally polygamous. Given enough time, every man will eventually be unfaithful."
Su Jingshu was trying to force her own warped understanding of men onto Qin Ruan.
Qin Ruan glanced at Su Jingshu and saw the doubt in her eyes.
She gave a soft laugh, her voice was gentler: "The men you are speaking of are those with low IQs, selfish, self-obsessed and egoistic.
These men think trampling over their partner’s feelings in a marriage just to feel superior, giving them a perverse sense of pleasure. These men are both loathsome and incompetent, and they cannot be compared to his lordship."
The smile on Su Jingshu’s face completely disappeared, her eyes, as they bore into Qin Ruan’s, held a certain unfriendly glimmer.
"So, you mean to say his lordship likes you and is willing to offer his loyalty to you?"
"No." Qin Ruan’s eyes deepened, as she sighed softly: "I just trust his lordship’s character.
Even if one day his lordship truly likes another woman, he would never put me in an awkward position, nor will he trample over my dignity. The basic fidelity in a marriage is something we owe each other."
Su Jingshu gave a mocking smile, not agreeing with Qin Ruan’s philosophy.
She stepped aside, informing her where his lordship, along with Gongsun Yibo, were perched.
