Young Master Is Being Jealous Again! -
Chapter 675: Lonely and Proud, Like a Lone Wanderer in the Darkness
Chapter 675: Chapter 675: Lonely and Proud, Like a Lone Wanderer in the Darkness
Fu Yueyuan knew that rushing matters wouldn’t help, and he was well aware of the value that the Huo family placed on Qin Ruan’s unborn child.
He immediately spoke up, "I will personally visit with my son another day. Please take your leave slowly, second young master, third madam."
This time, Fu Yueyuan personally escorted the guests out.
Fu Yinru stood still for a moment, then walked out of the rest room.
He didn’t see his little sister outside the door and asked the bodyguard stationed at the entrance where Fu Qiyue had gone.
The latter respectfully lowered his head, "Young master, the young miss ran into an acquaintance and was taken away. Someone is following her."
Fu Yinru nodded absentmindedly.
His deep eyes scanned the banquet, noting that the number of guests was dwindling.
He knew that the time had come, and the banquet was about to end.
Fu Yinru’s expression was dark as he pondered whether he truly wanted to form a marriage alliance with the Xiao family.
This marriage alliance would be a clear statement from the Fu family to the four major families and the other five aristocratic families in Capital City.
Whether the Fu family could secure a stable position in this murky pool depended on their diplomatic skills.
Over the years, the power struggles in Capital City have been deeply rooted and they are closely tied to the marriage alliances among the families.
The Fu family’s entrance into the capital as one of the six major aristocratic families was based on the premise of an agreement with the Xiao family.
No matter what the reason, the Fu family cannot refuse this marriage alliance.
A Pure Yang Body carries a natural cold poison and cannot be close to women.
Recalling Qin Ruan’s words, Fu Yinru’s deep eyes darkened.
He ordered in a low voice, "Bring Miss Xiao over."
The bodyguard lifted his head and asked, "Which Miss Xiao?"
"Xiao Wenrou."
"Yes, young master."
The bodyguard turned and left, heading straight to where Xiao Wenrou was located.
While waiting for Xiao Wenrou, Fu Yueyuan returned.
He had been pulled into brief, polite conversations at the banquet, politely refusing offers of toast, and wasting time before he stood in front of Fu Yinru.
Father and son exchanged a glance before entering the rest room one after the other.
Fu Yueyuan stared intently at his elder son, and harshly asked, "What do you have to say?"
Fu Yinru’s eyes slightly dimmed, "Father, we can’t offend the Huo family."
Only he and his father knew if his encounter with Qin Ruan on the balcony of the VIP room was a genuine mistake.
The Fu family had underestimated Qin Ruan due to her low origin.
Fu Yueyuan realised the Huo family might cause trouble over the incident.
He sighed quietly, "We were careless this time. Who would’ve thought that an unknown girl would possess such terrifying power."
Images of the beaten fox demon were still etched in his mind.
Seeing his father’s unwillingness to accept defeat, Fu Yinru subtly advised, "Father, the Huo family has remained unshaken in the capital for hundreds of years despite many changes in the power structure."
Fu Yueyuan waved his hand, "The Fu family’s goal isn’t the Huo family, but to ascend into the four major families."
Fu Yinru’s brows knitted tightly, "The four major families are Huo, Long, Lu and Gu, with Huo and Long connected by marriage and Lu is the one handpicked by the Huo family to take up important positions in the cabinet."
"There’s only Gu left. The Gu family has good relations with the Fu family. Father, you can’t be thinking of betraying old friendships and making a move on the Gu family?"
Fu Yueyuan’s face twisted into a cynical smirk, "The major families have been merging and separating for a long time."
"What does being related by marriage matter? Each family has their ultimate goal. We only aim to have a place amongst the four major families, not to replace the Huo family."
Fu Yinru’s lips pressed into a thin line, "You’re rushing matters."
He could sense his father’s determination to join the ranks of the four major families.
However, the Fu family had only just arrived in the capital. The rush to join the major families was premature.
Fu Yueyuan’s brow furrowed deeply, his face thoughtful.
After a moment of silence, he said, "I was negligent this time. We’re not in a hurry. We’ll arrange things slowly. Let’s talk about your health problem first."
Fu Yinru’s expression was indifferent, "There’s nothing to discuss about my health. You should give up after all these years. It’s time to bring my third brother back."
Fu Yueyuan’s face turned ashen at the mention of his third son, "Don’t mention that ungrateful child to me!"
"I can’t have descendants." Fu Yinru’s voice also became noticeably heavier.
Fu Yueyuan frowned but didn’t give up, "From what the third madam of the Huo family implied, she should have a solution."
Remembering Qin Ruan’s attitude before she left, he felt uncertain even as he spoke.
Fu Yinru’s handsome face was expressionless, his eyebrows raised, "Tonight, the Fu family offended the second young master and third madam of the Huo family. Whether the Fu family can steadily rise to power in the cabinet is uncertain. Asking for the third madam’s help in resolving my health problem would be difficult."
Fu Yueyuan knew this too, but he gritted his teeth and said, "We have to at least try."
Fu Yinru maintained his composure, "My third brother has been away from home for many years, but now he’s in the capital. Father, why seek a solution far away when it’s near?"
Once again mentioning his third brother, Fu Yueyuan was filled with rage, his chest heaving with anger.
He glared at Fu Yinru, fury etched on his face, "I’ve told you not to mention that ungrateful child. He was so capable when he left! The idea of asking for his help is ludicrous!"
"Father, you..."
"Young Master Fu, I heard you were looking for me?"
Before Fu Yinru could finish his sentence, an intentionally coquettish voice sounded from behind.
Father and son turned to see Xiao Wenrou entering the rest room.
She was dressed in a water-blue gown, swaying like a wave as she moved.
Fu Yinru’s unfathomable dark eyes turned gentle, a smile played at the corners of his lips.
He greeted her politely, "Miss Xiao."
Xiao Wenrou squinted her eyes, sizing up Fu Yinru.
This man was quite handsome, but he gave off a cold aura.
Xiao Wenrou cut straight to the chase and asked bluntly, "Are you sure about announcing the wedding news?"
Fu Yinru slightly nodded. "The banquet is about to end."
It was time for them to announce their engagement to the world.
Xiao Wenrou stood in front of Fu Yinru, extending her well-maintained hand towards him.
Fu Yinru gracefully took her hand, their combined appearance splendidly appealing, like a match made in heaven.
Fu Yueyuan’s face brightened from his previously gloomy expression, showing a paternal smile as he watched the couple.
The three of them headed towards the banquet hall together with the appearance of Xiao Wenrou.
The engagement between the Fu family and Xiao family was inevitable.
...
At the banquet entrance.
Qin Ruan and Hu Yixian were standing at the bottom of the staircase, whispering something to each other.
Fu Yueyuan had just sent them off before leaving his escort, Qin Ruan was preparing to leave with Huo Yirong.
Hu Yixian said he had something to tell her, but his eyes kept drifting towards Huo Yirong.
Even knowing Yirong’s status, Hu Yixian was not afraid, his attitude neither overbearing nor obsequious, "Second Master Huo, may I have a moment with Miss Ruan?"
Hearing the intimate address for Qin Ruan once more, Huo Yirong’s brows knitted, he eyed Hu Yixian warily.
This young fellow was interesting; he kept his eyes on Qin Ruan the entire night.
Had he not kept a respectful distance and acted decently, he would have long thrown him out.
Huo Yirong glanced at Qin Ruan.
After she nodded, he responded lightly: "I’ll get someone to bring the car over, and pick you up in a while."
Qin Ruan nodded again, "Thank you, Brother Yirong."
Huo Yirong signaled a casual farewell to her, turning around and leaving.
Only Qin Ruan and Hu Yixian remained.
Qin Ruan tugged at her light windbreaker, and distantly voiced out, "Speak."
Hu Yixian grinned, his face a picture of radiance, "We’ve only formally met twice now, do you trust me that much?"
Qin Ruan gave him a strange look, but it quickly faded.
She said nonchalantly, "My body isn’t cumbersome yet, and considering our abilities, you can’t harm me."
Hu Yixian ran his hand through his hair, a helpless expression on his face, "Your words are quite a blow to my ego."
Indeed he couldn’t win against Qin Ruan, yet he was not annoyed by her frankness.
Just then, her straightforwardness made him burst into laughter.
"What exactly do you want?"
Hu Yixian spoke solemnly, "Qin Ruan, according to my insights, you will encounter someone from your past in the next few days."
"Someone from my past?" Qin Ruan blinked. "Is that what you wanted to tell me?"
Hu Yixian nodded. "I felt a sense of familiarity when I saw you, and thought it’d just be a heads up."
Qin Ruan clucked her tongue lightly, touching her lips, "I understand, is there anything else?"
Hu Yixian turned around in front of Qin Ruan, asking, "What do you think of me? Do you feel a sense of familiarity?"
Qin Ruan didn’t understand, her face a picture of confusion.
Noticing her baffled gaze, Hu Yixian touched his nose awkwardly, mumbling, "My current appearance doesn’t seem to be worth seeing."
Having said that, a hint of regret crossed his face.
Qin Ruan looked at him as if he were a mental patient.
Perhaps because her gaze was too direct, Hu Yixian laughed, his eyes curving into crescents as he explained, "I was just wondering if you felt like I was projecting Jingcen’s image on you. After all, we have been together all the time. ’Near vermilion, one becomes red; near ink, one becomes black.’
The excuse was really poor.
However, upon hearing him bring up her older brother, Qin Ruan’s gaze softened, a slight smile touching her lips.
Hu Yixian fished out his phone from his pocket, handing it to Qin Ruan, "Leave your number, let’s keep in touch."
If he weren’t a classmate of her brother, she would have walked away given his inexplicable behavior.
But since he was her brother’s friend, she would give him some face.
Qin Ruan took Hu Yixian’s phone and entered her phone number.
Handing the phone back, she said indifferently, "If there’s nothing else, I’m going. There are people waiting for me at home."
"Take care on the road, be safe."
Qin Ruan nodded in response and turned to leave.
Her steps were steady, her figure solitary, like a lone wanderer in the darkness.
Hu Yixian continued watching her retreating figure, a complex and heavy light in his gaze.
