Chapter 667: Master Huo: I can always see you, as long as I want to

Chapter 667: Chapter 667: Master Huo: I can always see you, as long as I want to

Lin Hao looked up instinctively, to be met with the familiar face of Qin Ruan, filled with anger.

Still startled, he asked uncertainly, "You... are you Qin Ruan?"

Qin Ruan’s face darkened instantly, a fierce aura radiating from her.

Her icy, moonlit eyes flashed with a cold light, her exquisite face revealing a grim and hostile visage.

Red-faced with anger, her cheeks puffed out, Qin Ruan pointed at Lin Hao with trembling fingers, "I’m your father!"

The familiar tone brought Lin Hao relief.

His body went limp, a sensation of having survived a calamity washing over him.

The Qin Ruan before him was indeed the Qin Xiaowu he knew, no doubt about it.

As expected, her temper remained volatile when she was angry.

A twinge of pain passed through his right wrist, prompting Lin Hao to look down.

His right hand was hanging limply. Any effort to use it resulted in excruciating pain.

"Your hand is broken."

The words came from Huo Qiang’s cold voice, very close to his ear.

Blinking, Lin Hao stared in confusion at the figure obstructing his view.

Huo Qiang was leaning over him from the passenger seat, his elbow digging into Lin Hao’s chest, pressing him down forcefully.

No wonder he had been struggling for breath earlier.

Huo Qiang’s hands still remained on the steering wheel.

Feeling that something was amiss, Lin Hao looked out the car window. A dangerous sight greeted him.

The car he was in had collided with a stone pillar on the edge of an overpass, stopping dangerously on the edge of the bridge.

Moving only half a meter to the left would send them plunging into the river below, car and all.

The deformed luxury car from the force of the collision was surrounded by the Huo family’s hidden guards, stationed outside for their outing.

Lin Hao felt tension throbbing in his temples.

Although he didn’t know what had happened, just witnessing the scene painted a vivid picture of how dangerous the situation had been.

"Get out of the car if you’re not dead!"

Huo Qiang’s eyes, filled with hostility, fixated menacingly on Lin Hao, his gaze akin to a drawn sword poised to strike.

Swallowing hard, Lin Hao pushed open the car door with his left hand and stepped out of the vehicle.

Once he was out of the car, Huo Qiang relaxed his grip on the steering wheel.

Qin Ruan, belly protruding, also exited the car. She moved in front of Lin Hao, grabbing his collar and pulling him close.

Her eyes flared with rage as she glared at the man, "Do you know you were just led into an illusion? Do you know who was deceiving you? What did you see?"

So they had been in an illusion. No wonder it felt so unreal.

Lin Hao’s mind was a whirl, but the cold night wind helped clear some of his thoughts.

"I was driving, and a woman who looked exactly like you sat in the back seat. I didn’t suspect anything at first and kept talking to her.

That woman kept telling me to drive. Later, a rabbit blocked the road. She told me to chase it, and I realized something was wrong..."

He spoke in a halting manner but managed to tell Qin Ruan everything that had transpired in the illusion, however disjointed and garbled his recounting.

Qin Ruan’s brow furrowed, and a oppressive aura emanated from her.

She slowly released Lin Hao’s collar, her anger fading rapidly.

Standing on the overpass, Qin Ruan surveyed the view of the river underneath the bridge, glistening like a mirror under the moonlight and reflecting the expansive sky above.

Under the cold moonlight, she appeared especially ominous and terrifying.

If Huo Qiang hadn’t stopped Lin Hao at the critical moment, they could have been led by a bewitched Lin Hao to crash through the bridge’s railing and into the icy river below.

From such a high altitude, Qin Ruan might have been able to save herself if she fell into the water.

But she couldn’t guarantee the safety of her unborn child.

Plunging from such a height, the impact upon hitting the water would have been immense, the water’s surface as unyielding as concrete.

Picturing the enormity of such an impact, how could the child survive in her womb?

Qin Ruan’s disgruntled aura spread around her, entirely uncensored.

Her icy, forbidding eyes shimmered with cold, devoid of all emotion, an unfathomable mystery.

After a long silence, Qin Ruan glanced coldly at Lin Hao. "She was after me. Because of your unique constitution and because you were driving, you fell under her spell."

Her words were meant to reassure Lin Hao somewhat.

Lin Hao’s constitution had long been problematic, always the first to fall prey to sinister forces.

Such incidents had occurred more than once or twice.

Qin Ruan also found it quite exasperating and couldn’t help but apologize.

Lin Hao’s decision to stick with her despite his sensitivity to these forces had certainly brought him a fair share of trouble.

Hearing the reassurance in Qin Ruan’s words, what Lin Hao felt more than anything was a lingering sense of fear.

Cradling his dislocated right hand, he looked at Qin Ruan with concern. "Are you okay?"

Qin Ruan pointed at the shimmering water under the bridge. "I almost ended up in that bone-chilling water because of you. We barely survived. Do you think I’m okay?"

Lin Hao glanced guiltily at the water beneath the bridge. "I didn’t mean to... Who knew my damned body would attract such evil forces."

"If you had meant it, you wouldn’t be standing here talking to the Madam right now."

The voice belonged to Huo Qiang, who had exited the car and approached the two.

He stood in front of Lin Hao, forcibly grabbing his dislocated right hand.

Lin Hao winced, "Old Qiang, have some mercy. I’m a victim too... Ah!!!"

His sentence was cut short by a sudden cry of agony.

After resetting Lin Hao’s hand, Huo Qiang listened to the sound of Lin Hao howling in pain, a faint smile barely visible at the corner of his lips.

Lin Hao clutched his right hand and glared accusingly at Huo Qiang.

"Isn’t that pretty much a vendetta?"

Huo Qiang’s plain face assumed an innocent expression as though he didn’t understand Lin Hao’s accusation.

He turned to Qin Ruan, who was standing by the edge of the bridge, gave a slight bow and asked, "Madam, it’s getting late. Shall we return in the car behind?"

Qin Ruan turned around, her cryptic eyes staring at the luxury car with a compressed hood. She shook her head, "Let’s not go home yet."

Huo Qiang: "You mean...?"

"Back to Fu’s house."

Qin Ruan wasn’t sure what had distracted Lin Hao earlier, but she had smelled a lingering odor.

It wasn’t the Evil Qi from the puppet, but an intense demonic energy.

Whether it was a demon or a puppet, since it dared to attack her, it ought to leave something behind.

Qin Ruan changed her mind on the spot.

A group of them got into the car and returned to the Fu Family.

While on the road, Qin Ruan received a call from Lord Huo the Third.

"Ruanruan, are you alright?"

His deep, comforting voice echoed in Qin Ruan’s ears, soothing her irritated mood.

There was a mysterious gleam in her eyes. "How did you know something happened to me?"

Sometimes, Qin Ruan was really curious why Lord Huo the Third always knew something happened to her right away.

She felt like she was being watched and that everything she did was seen by Lord Huo the Third.

She didn’t know how important she was to the Huo Family. Every time she went out, they activated level one emergency measures.

She stayed too long on the elevated road, and the abnormality was reported by the security system.

When it came to Qin Ruan, Huo Yunjiao would be the first to activate all surveillance equipment in the city and locate Qin Ruan.

At this moment, he was sitting in a system room that oversaw the city, watching her car divert from the original path.

A clear, resonating voice came through the phone, "I see you."

Without hesitation, Qin Ruan retorted, "Impossible."

Lord Huo the Third was in the central area of hundreds of monitors in the surveillance room.

There were thousands of screens, not even including public areas like shopping malls and office buildings.

He chuckled pleasantly, "Ruanruan, you took out a piece of chocolate from your bag as soon as you got in the car. I put it there. Do you like it?"

"Yes, it’s sweet but not cloying," Qin Ruan replied, frowning slightly. "Are you not at home?"

Her voice was deep, laced with displeasure, hinting at a simmering temper.

She didn’t forget that Lord Huo the Third, given his current health condition, would stir up quite a fuss every time he left home.

Lord Huo the Third, "I’m in the surveillance room at home. I can clearly see the license plate of the car you’re in."

His voice was deep and rich, like an aged wine, leaving a lingering scent on one’s lips after a sip.

Qin Ruan raised her eyebrows slightly, "Is that possible?"

She was still a bit away from Champs Elysees Manor, but the fact that Lord Huo the Third could monitor her from home made her wonder if he could watch the city’s surveillance.

She simply put her thought into words.

Lord Huo the Third didn’t hide anything, "Yes, I can see anywhere in the Capital City if I want."

If put a certain way, it sounded like he was saying, "I can always see you whenever I want."

Qin Ruan fell into a deep silence.

Lord Huo the Third said again, "If you’re interested, Ruanruan, would you like to come in and see it someday?" His voice held an inexplicable seduction.

Qin Ruan didn’t show much interest, "We’ll talk about it."

In the monitoring room, Lord Huo the Third’s deep gaze trailed the black car speeding across the monitor.

Qin Ruan was in the car. With the speed of the car, he had already switched over to a dozen different surveillance screens.

As the black car once again disappeared from his sight, Lord Huo the Third walked over to the next monitor.

Gazing at the car on the screen, he asked softly, "Why aren’t you returning?"

Qin Ruan answered in a low voice, "I fell into a trap. Now I need to find the culprit."

"Was it human or supernatural?"

"Puppet."

Lord Huo the Third’s expression softened as he warned, "Ruanruan, take care of yourself. I’ll wait for you at home."

Qin Ruan nodded, only to realize moments later that Lord Huo the Third couldn’t see her.

"You should go to bed early. I don’t know when I’ll be able to return."

She spoke softly.

Lord Huo the Third was insistent, "I’ll wait for you."

Qin Ruan: "... Suit yourself."

Neither of them spoke again, but the call wasn’t ended.

Qin Ruan said, "Hang up."

"Alright," Lord Huo the Third responded.

Qin Ruan waited, but the call remained connected.

She sighed softly, "I’ll come back as soon as possible. Take care of yourself. Go to sleep early if you’re tired."

It sounded like Lord Huo the Third chuckled, "I’ll wait for you to return."

"Mhm."

Qin Ruan responded and hung up first.

She was blunt and decisive, not giving herself any chance to hesitate.

...

Fu Mansion.

Huo Yirong invited Ling Xuzi into the lounge, only to find that there was an extra person in the room.

Fu Yinru, the eldest son of the Fu Family and the rightful heir to the family’s fortune.

He was thirty-two years old, unmarried, with good looks, deep-set eyes and brow, a disciplined personality and calm demeanor reminiscent of an older generation.

The eldest son of the Fu Family was now the most powerful figure in the Fu Family apart from the Family Head.
