Chapter 632: Chapter 632: Lin Hao Pleads: Ancestors, stop playing, I’m scared!
Unable to find any trace of Cheng Xuelan, Qin Ruan’s countenance darkened.
However, she noticed the black water at the center of the lake.
Qin Ruan turned to Director Liu, and indifferently asked, "Is there a boat? I would like to go to the center of the lake."
Director Liu nodded and pointed towards the left, where the lakeside hidden by a small grove was located.
"There is a boat there."
Having a boat made things easier.
Qin Ruan raised her gaze and focused on Wei Linchen, who was standing next to her, "Teacher Wei, care to join me?"
Wei Linchen glanced casually at Qin Ruan’s abdomen, and a restrained smile appeared on his face, "I would be honored."
The two headed towards the path on their left, making their way to where the boat was hidden by the treeline.
As they approached, they were getting closer to the small grove.
A gentle wind blew, causing the leaves of the trees to rustle.
When they were a few meters away from the boat, Qin Ruan suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Her brows furrowed as she looked at the small grove ahead in perplexity.
When Wei Linchen didn’t hear her approach, he looked back and saw her standing still, her expression solemn as she stared at the grove.
He returned to her side and followed her gaze.
"What did you find?"
"A strong scent of blood, an eerie aura of resentment, a provocation that permeates the atmosphere, and Cheng Xuelan’s aura."
Qin Ruan’s voice remained indifferent, brimming with a cold, ruthless, killing intent.
Wei Linchen furrowed his eyebrows and studied her seriously, as if he were seeing Qin Ruan for the first time.
Soon, understanding dawned on his face.
Wei Linchen looked at Qin Ruan’s refined profile and sighed, "Indeed, those who are respected by Uncle Qiao and Uncle Lu are truly remarkable."
Qin Ruan turned her gaze to him, looking perplexed, "You noticed it as well?"
Wei Linchen nodded, "I only noticed something was amiss after I walked into the grove, compared to you who noticed it from merely standing outside it. You truly are gifted."
Qin Ruan was unaffected by his compliment, she pressed on, "What did you discover inside?"
Wei Linchen’s eyes were fixed sternly onto the small grove, with a trace of concern in his brows, "A Huangjue tree, which is close to becoming a Tree Demon."
As per Qin Ruan’s knowledge, Odi School had only been built in the Capital City about a hundred years ago.
How could a Huangjue tree become a demon in just a hundred years?
She voiced her doubts, questions that Wei Linchen had pondered over previously too.
He replied, unsure, "The Huangjue tree was draped with red cloths. I believe that it was due to the sincere wishes of the students that it had this opportunity."
"Well, that’s interesting."
A smile, devoid of warmth, curved up Qin Ruan’s lips.
She walked towards the small grove, "Since we’re here, let’s have a look."
Wei Linchen didn’t respond and trailed after her in silence.
The Hidden Guard of the Huo Family and Lin Hao, who were lagging behind, followed them into the grove.
After walking for only a few minutes, the Huangjue tree draped with red cloths came into Qin Ruan’s sight.
She had activated her Heavenly Eye and saw the full form of the tree clearly.
A trace of surprise flitted through Qin Ruan’s eyes, followed by a surge of fury, her face was as cold as ice.
She pointed towards the tree, her voice wavering slightly, "Teacher Wei, is this the Huangjue tree you were talking about?"
Wei Linchen hadn’t noticed anything off. He looked closely at the Huangjue tree, unable to detect any changes.
He nodded, his tone steady, "Yes!"
The tree was still the same.
But this time, the red cloths hanging from the tree seemed a bit more glaring.
"Holy shit!"
In contrast to Wei Linchen’s calm, Lin Hao, who had caught up from behind, cursed out loudly.
His voice was filled with shock, amazement, and an indescribable sense of terror.
Qin Ruan looked back, clearly seeing Lin Hao unconsciously stepping back.
She stared at his alarmingly white face, "You saw it?"
Lin Hao’s face had turned ghostly white, his lips visibly losing color.
His gaze moved away from the Huangjue tree, meeting Qin Ruan’s cool, undisturbed eyes.
"Qin, Qin Ruan, I want to leave this place."
This place was too terrifying, it was like a nightmare.
Qin Ruan shook her head, "I’m afraid you can’t, come here."
Lin Hao had a mournful look on his face, pleading with Qin Ruan, "Please, I can’t, my legs are giving in."
He was cursing himself nonstop - why did he have to possess this damned ability to see Puppets?
If the Puppet he had seen previously had kept him from sleeping for days and nights, then what he saw now would haunt his dreams forever.
He could clearly feel the cold chill creeping up his back.
His scalp tingled, every hair screaming at him to flee.
All the hairs on his body were standing on end, this level of fear, even with his wealth of experience, he couldn’t muster the courage to resist.
This was too terrifying, it was like a living hell!
Wei Linchen didn’t quite understand the conversation between Qin Ruan and Lin Hao, but he could sense from their dialogue that something was wrong.
"What’s going on?"
Qin Ruan didn’t answer him, instead, she waved at Lin Hao, "Lin Hao, come here."
Lin Hao didn’t even dare to meet Qin Ruan’s gaze.
When he did catch her gaze, a pair of black fog-filled canvas shoes in the air above her head caught his eye.
Those canvas shoes were just floating in mid-air.
Lin Hao tried his best to distract his attention, but there was no ignoring it.
Hearing that Qin Ruan was still asking him to come over, Lin Hao was on the brink of tears.
He kept his head down, focusing at the yellowing leaves under his feet, pleading with her, "Qin Ruan, please don’t play with me, I’m really scared."
If his feet could still move, Lin Hao would have run away by now.
He stood still, not just out of fear, but because he’d lost the ability to move.
Qin Ruan’s patience was running out so when she saw that Lin Hao wasn’t moving, she walked over.
As she came close, she noticed that his hands, hanging by his side, were trembling.
Reflecting on the horrifying scene behind her, Qin Ruan could understand his hesitance.
She reached out and tugged Lin Hao’s sleeve, with traces of Nether Power passing from the fabric into his body.
Lin Hao felt a warm current flowing into his stiff body, his limbs no longer feeling like they were frozen, as if he had regained control of them.
He moved his legs a bit, and they too could move now.
Qin Ruan’s eyes were gentle, reassuring Lin Hao in a low voice, "I’m not asking you to do much. Just go over and hold Teacher Wei’s hand, let him see what’s on the tree. With me around, nothing will harm you."
Lin Hao didn’t doubt Qin Ruan’s ability.
Sweat broke out in his palms and he said in a dispirited voice, "It’s too brutal, those... I can’t get over it psychologically, I really don’t want to see those things anymore."
What he saw moments ago kept flashing in his mind.
If it had been the spirit of an ordinary deceased person, in his eyes it would have been no different from a corpse.
Rotten limbs dripping with black blood, bones piled high, foul stench rampant in the wind.
The air was filled with a suffocating smell.
There were not only red cloths hanging from the Huangjue tree.
It was undoubtedly covered with countless Puppets, each bearing expressions of dullness, hatred, pain, and fierceness.
By comparison, the eighteen layers of Hell didn’t seem all that different from the scene before his eyes.
Who could’ve thought that in Odi School, there existed such a horrifying mortal purgatory littered with rivers of blood?
