Chapter 548: Chapter 548 Old Jiao Enraged: Order someone to find it and destroy it!
Huo Yunjiao, slight lift of his impeccably clean shoes, rested against the chin of Nangong Chang, forcefully tilting the man’s face upwards.
With his eyes filled with anger and humiliation, he scanned the person before him up and down.
"Nangong Chang," the Third Master seemed to lament. "There was no need for our relationship to come to this. I blame you for choosing this path to your demise."
His icy, calm words elegantly slipped off his beautiful lips.
Nangong Chang’s nervous heartbeat was extraordinarily clear in the eerily silent, mysterious atmosphere.
Just as he tried to speak, Huo Yunjiao pressed down hard with his foot.
Nangong Chang was thrown backward again, hitting his head against the wall behind him.
A dull thud resonated in the room once more.
Due to the intensity of his action, the Third Master’s well-combed hair fell loose.
A few strands of hair fell onto his forehead, masking the cold, dark light in his eyes.
Outside the room.
Huo Chuan and Lin Hao stood guard on either side of the door.
Qin Ruan stood with her arms crossed, facing away from them, an expression of slight impatience on her face.
Five minutes had already passed, and the Third Master was still in the room.
After another minute, Qin Ruan could wait no longer.
Turning around, her calm and beautiful eyes focused upon the door.
"Lin Hao, open the door."
Upon her command, Lin Hao extended his hand to push the door.
But it wouldn’t budge.
He turned the doorknob, only to find it locked from the inside.
He looked back, glancing at Qin Ruan for instructions.
Upon realizing the door was locked from the inside, Qin Ruan grew even more worried that something might have happened to the Third Master in the room.
She ordered, "Break down the door!"
Lin Hao took a couple of steps back, preparing to ram the door.
Huo Chuan stood by, expression neutral, offering no resistance to this course of action.
Suddenly, there was a click.
The bedroom door was opened from the inside.
The Third Master, dressed impeccably, walked out with an elegant stride.
His gentle gaze settled on an anxious-looking Qin Ruan, a smile slowly forming on his lips, "Sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s go."
Huo Yunjiao came forward, wrapping an arm around Qin Ruan’s waist as they started downstairs.
Qin Ruan tilted her head, trying to look past into the bedroom.
The Third Master raised a hand to cover her eyes. "Nothing to see here, let’s go home."
Qin Ruan’s nose twitched, picking up the faint scent of hand wash and a tinge of blood on his hand.
Understanding dawned upon her, and she obediently nodded.
Hand in hand, the two left.
Huo Chuan and Lin Hao still stood guard at the doorway, expressions changing as they took in the scene inside.
The pervasive stench of blood washed over them.
They saw Nangong Chang inside, by now huddled into a bloody formless mass in a corner, shaking subtly.
Swallowing hard, Lin Hao asked Huo Chuan in a hoarse voice, "Did the Third Master do this?"
Hadn’t the Third Master been weak and uninterested in worldly affairs, a well-mannered gentleman of frail constitution?
The ghastly scene in the room didn’t seem like something the refined and lofty Third Master could have done.
Huo Chuan, too, was momentarily surprised at the sight in the room.
Nonetheless, he quickly recovered, speaking in a calm tone, "The Third Master hasn’t laid a hand on anyone for many years. He must have been really pushed this time."
Lin Hao looked at the scene within the room, speechless for a long while.
He just couldn’t reconcile the scene before him with the elegant and noble image of the Third Master he knew.
He knew the Third Master was not as gentle and refined as he appeared to the world, yet he had not expected him to be so ruthless.
Huo Chuan gestured to the hidden guard of the Huo Family a few meters away.
As the man came closer, he ordered calmly, "Check if he’s still breathing. If he is, get a doctor."
"Yes," the guard left to follow the orders.
Huo Chuan, holding onto the still dazed Lin Hao, chased after his lord and his wife who were leaving.
Downstairs.
With careful guard from Huo Yunjiao, Qin Ruan stepped down onto the wooden floor of the first floor.
She looked up to see a layer of sweat across the forehead of the man beside her.
Without saying anything, she took out a clean handkerchief from her bag and went on her tiptoes to wipe off the sweat from Huo Yunjiao’s face.
As she strained to reach, he placed one hand on her waist to support her and held the hand she was using to wipe his sweat.
In a gentle voice, he said, "I can do it myself."
The height difference between them was too large and Qin Ruan was cumbersome, making the act of wiping his sweat a dangerous endeavour for her.
Huo Junxin entered the room and saw the two of them in an intimate embrace.
He walked towards them without diverting his gaze.
"Third Brother, the cabinet is holding an emergency meeting. I need to attend. Can I leave Huo Chuan here with you?" he asked.
"Go ahead and take care of your affairs, Big Brother," responded Huo Yunjiao, calmly wiping away his sweat.
The brothers understood what the cabinet’s urgent meeting was about.
The Lu family needed to ascend to power through proper channels.
As the most trusted person of the previous ruler and the foremost representative of the Huo family in the cabinet, only Huo Junxin could control any unexpected situations.
Huo Chuan and Lin Hao came downstairs.
Releasing Qin Ruan, Huo Yunjiao said to Lin Hao, "Escort Madam to the carriage."
"And you?" Qin Ruan looked up at him questioningly.
There was a gentle warmth in his eyes. In a soft voice, he said, "I need to talk to my elder brother. It won’t be long."
What he meant was that Qin Ruan shouldn’t be privy to the conversation between the two brothers.
Understanding, Qin Ruan nodded and left the Nangong House’s hall with Lin Hao.
After watching them leave, the tender smile on Huo Yunjiao’s face disappeared and his eyes turned cold. His entire demeanor became intimidating even though he remained calm.
He glanced coldly at Huo Chuan. His gaze was sharp like an arrow and his thin lips pressed together in dissatisfaction.
A sense of unease flashed through Huo Chuan’s mind; he had a feeling something was amiss with his master.
He wasn’t sure if he was imagining things, but it seemed that a faint red light had flashed across his master’s eyes.
He cleared his throat and asked softly, "Third Master?"
A strange glint appeared in Huo Yunjiao’s eyes, which resembled a deep pool.
His voice was cold as ice and dangerous, oozing malice, "Nangong Chang has built a glamorous cage. Find it and destroy it!"
Huo Junxin also noticed that his brother was not himself and furrowed his brows to ask, "What cage?"
Huo Yunjiao’s eyes lowered slightly, and his thin lips curled into a wicked smile.
He said, "The fuse that led to the downfall of the Nangong family."
If it hadn’t been for Nangong Chang coveting Qin Ruan, the Nangong family wouldn’t have ended up like this.
Huo Junxin looked puzzled. Gazing at his brother whose face rarely showed anger, he seemed to understand something.
He stepped forward, placing his hand on Huo Yunjiao’s shoulder, emphasizing each word, "You are not in good health, don’t get angry so easily.
Go home. Leave this to Huo Chuan and the others. I promise the situation will stabilize within three days."
Huo Yunjiao looked up, his voice cold and full of menace, "Big brother, I want everything to be settled within twenty-four hours. The Nangong family can’t escape their fate this time, and no one can save them!"
Reading between the lines of his words, Huo Junxin asked with a furrowed brow, "What do you mean?"
Huo Yunjiao responded, "The Su family, Su Jingshu."
Yes, it seemed like the Nangong family had joined hands with the Su family and the Xiao family.
But in reality, only the Su family truly supported the Nangong family wholeheartedly.
The relationship between Su Jingshu and Nangong Chang was clear to the discerning members of the four major families and six aristocratic families. It was clear that she would never give up on the Nangong family, specifically, on Nangong Chang.
