Chapter 369: Chapter 369: Master Huo is Trapped and His Disease is Worsening
Master Xu stared intently at Qin Ruan’s face, assessing her from top to bottom.
His gaze was critical and laced with a flirtatious air that was both repellent and uncomfortable.
The Third Master’s handsome brows furrowed, his dark eyes sparking with a frightening, bloodthirsty cold light. A powerful and formidable aura emanated from him, rapidly spreading a chill throughout the vast space.
"Control your eyes!" the Third Master warned in a low voice, devoid of any emotion.
Master Xu’s sharp gaze landed on the Third Master, his lips curling into a mocking smirk.
The Third Master gripped Qin Ruan’s hand, his lofty pride evident in his icy gaze.
His eyes on Master Xu were as disdainful and dismissive as if he were looking at a rat in a filthy gutter.
Just as Master Xu appeared to be provoked by the Third Master, Nangong Chang broke the tension with a laugh, "I really didn’t recognize that the Third Madam also belongs to the Mystical Sect. My apologies for my poor eyesight."
He wanted to play the peacemaker, but the Third Master was not having it.
The Third Master’s glance towards Nangong Chang was unspeakably cold, merely a brief glance was enough to give off an overwhelming aura of authority from all sides.
Nangong Chang changed the subject, "Master Xu doesn’t visit our nation often. He’s just staying longer in Capital City because his head disciple, Wu Dao, got into trouble."
"Why wouldn’t the Third Master take this opportunity to let Master Xu examine you? You might receive unexpectedly good results."
Those words sounded suspiciously like a wolf in sheep’s clothing—anything but well-intentioned.
The Third Master ignored the bait. Gently stroking Qin Ruan’s hand, he spoke in a deep voice, "My girl is not feeling well, so we won’t disturb any longer."
He rose, arm around Qin Ruan’s shoulder, preparing to leave this place of strife.
Master Xu swiftly interposed himself, reaching out towards Qin Ruan.
The Third Master’s expression changed abruptly, his eyes turning icy cold. He quickly slid the Buddha Beads off his wrist, positioning them in front of Master Xu.
Master Xu’s outstretched hand seemed to hit a barrier and he involuntarily fell back a couple of steps.
"Huo Chuan, Huo Zhi!"
At the Third Master’s stern call, the Hidden Guards of the Huo Family swarmed in.
They surrounded Nangong Chang and Master Xu, their faces stern and their eyes full of murderous intent as they stared them down.
The small commotion quickly attracted the attention of those nearby.
Huo Yirong, who had received the news outside, rushed into the restaurant at once.
Relieved to see that his younger brother and Qin Ruan were unharmed, his handsome face was filled with displeasure.
Huo Yirong walked over quickly, "Nangong Chang, everyone is waiting outside for your wedding banquet. What are you doing making a fuss with my younger brother?"
Accusations and warnings seemed to resonate in his loud voice for all to hear.
Nangong Chang looked uncomfortable, internally blaming Master Xu for his impulsiveness and regretting not looking into Qin Ruan’s background beforehand.
That Qin Ruan turned out to be a member of the Mystical Sect was beyond his expectations and would no doubt interfere with what Master Xu intended to do next.
Once Huo Yirong approached, Nangong Chang quickly put on a friendly facade, saying in a friendly tone, "It’s rare for the Third Master to appear. It would be a shame for him to leave before the wedding ceremony is completed. I insist on expressing my apologies if there was any part of the Nangong family’s hospitality that made him uncomfortable."
His words were smooth, enough to make anyone unaware of the situation believe the Third Master was the one causing discomfort for the Nangong family.
Huo Yirong scoffed coldly, "You’ve said enough. It’s already a wonder my third brother made it here with his poor health. What, do you plan on having him move into the Nangong family home?"
Nangong Chang gave a dignified response, "If the Third Master would honor us, the Nangong Family would treat him as an esteemed guest."
The Lu brothers, Lu Han and Lu Yichen, arrived on the scene just in time to overhear Nangong Chang’s words.
Lu Han laughed, chiming in, "I can’t believe such a good opportunity has arisen. My Lu family must seize this chance. Perhaps the Third Master would care to stay a few days in our humble abode."
"I remember that the Third Madam is a schoolmate of Yichen, such a good relationship must not be wasted."
"Junior sister Qin!"
Lu Yichen took the opportunity to come over to the Third Master and Qin Ruan and greet them like an old friend.
Qin Ruan gave him a slight nod, "Senior brother Lu."
Lu Yichen narrowed his eyes, a brilliant smile on his face.
He eyed Qin Ruan’s complexion and suddenly exclaimed, "Junior sister, why do you look so unwell?!"
Qin Ruan touched her face blankly, feeling no discomfort.
The graceful young master holding her lowered his gaze, studying Qin Ruan’s delicate and slightly flushed face, finding nothing unusual about it.
In contrast, it was him who started to feel ill, his whole body weak, his heart beating slowly, and his breath stifled.
At this moment, even his vision was starting to blur.
If it were not for his tremendous self-control, his discomfort would have been detected by others long ago.
Perhaps due to a fleeting relaxation from the young master, Qin Ruan noticed that something was off about him.
Their clasped hands had become slightly damp.
Qin Ruan was horrified, her heart clenched with fear.
Could it be that the young master was being plotted against right under her watch?
Following Lu Yichen’s words, she pretended to feel unwell and leaned against the young master’s shoulder, secretly transferring the Power of the Nether Soul to him.
Qin Ruan’s mind spun rapidly, recollecting what had transpired earlier, peeling back layers, trying to figure out when the young master was plotted against.
Huo Yirong saw Qin Ruan collapsing against his third brother, his brows furrowing heavily, as he shouted furiously at Huo Chuan and Huo Zhi, "Are you blind? Why are you not assisting the third young master and the young madam to leave?!"
"Yes!"
Huo Chuan and Huo Zhi promptly stepped forward.
Huo Zhi tried to support Qin Ruan, but she clung tightly to the young master, not letting go. Huo Zhi could only watch anxiously from the side.
The young master looked poised and scholarly, his voice calm, "There’s no need. I can help the madam."
He took Qin Ruan’s hand and walked past Nangong Chang and the Real Immortal Xu, leaving the dining hall.
As Qin Ruan passed by the Real Immortal Xu, she gave him a cold glance, her eyes filled with a blatant killing intent.
Her red lips parted slightly, silently mouthing a few words.
The Real Immortal Xu frowned, a look of confusion on his face.
Once he understood what Qin Ruan had said, a chill rose from his back. A malicious expression covered his cunning face.
Qin Ruan had said only six characters: Wu Daolong, I killed him.
Wu Daolong was all too familiar a name. Wasn’t he the evil practitioner who had wanted to seize the power from father and son Rong Changting and Rong Jing?
If Minmin hadn’t sacrificed herself to the demon, he would not have sought revenge on Han Xian and Han Kexin.
The Real Immortal Xu and Wu Daolong were of the same lineage. Both deserved to die.
She didn’t yet know how the young master was plotted against by the Real Immortal Xu, but since he dared to harm the young master, she would take his life for the time being.
The crowd watched as the young master and Qin Ruan turned away and left.
All they saw was Qin Ruan nestled in the young master’s arms, but they didn’t see how, under her cover, she was supporting his body the entire way.
The large dining hall was silent.
This smokeless stealth battle revealed to observers that the Nangong family couldn’t stay idle any longer.
The Huo family’s status in Capital City had stood firm for many years. Nobody dared to challenge them so blatantly.
Even if Nangong Chang’s attitude was polite and friendly, it came off as confrontational.
Was the Nangong family formally confronting the Huo family?
The bystanders wore smiling masks, but deep down they gave a sigh.
The Nangong family, which had kept a low profile for many years, finally couldn’t sit still.
