Chapter 362: Chapter 362: Offending Madam Huo, One Must Pay the Price
"Lord Nangong is so enthusiastic, he’s made my place lively as soon as he arrived."
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. The indifference in Third Master’s voice echoed from the second floor.
Standing on the stairs and holding Qin Ruan’s hand, he emitted a dignified and noble aura, a proud, cold smile on his handsome face.
Huo Yirong and Nangong Chang, who were about to cross swords again, instantly stopped.
They casually straightened out their clothes downstairs, all the while grinning as if they were not the ones fighting earlier.
Huo family’s hidden guards begin cleaning up the mess once they stopped.
The Third Master put an arm around Qin Ruan as he descended the stairs, heading towards Nangong Chang who, despite his usually vindictive character, greeted them with a smiling face.
With a trace of mischief in his eyes, he stared directly at Qin Ruan, "This must be Madam Huo. She’s indeed better looking in person, a true beauty."
Qin Ruan barely lifted her eyelids, giving Nangong Chang a quick glance.
This man was nothing like she imagined.
She expected Nangong Chang to be a wrong-doer, surrounded by evil Qi, but was surprised to find that his aura was clean.
Third Master introduced him to Qin Ruan, "This is the eldest son of the Nangong family, Nangong Chang."
"Nice to meet you."
Qin Ruan responded, her tone cold.
Nangong Chang extended his hand towards her, "Madam Huo, it’s a pleasure to meet you."
Qin Ruan looked down, noticing the faint blood stain on his hand which raised an elegant eyebrow.
Just as she was about to shake his hand out of courtesy, Third Master, with her in his arms, bypassed Nangong Chang and took a seat on the sofa.
Nangong Chang, who was left behind by them, had a shadow cross his eyes, the corner of his mouth curling up with a faint smile of interest.
When he turned back, his expression was clean and pure.
Nangong Chang took a seat next to Third Master as if nothing had happened, joking, "Third Master, for someone like you that is secretive about your private life, it’s quite surprising to hear that you’re secretly harboring a beautiful woman. If the eligible young ladies of noble families got wind of this, I am afraid it might break their hearts."
Third Master remained unmoved, his beautiful lips maintaining a perfect curve as he gently responded, "You’re no better. Your upcoming wedding has had many girls crying their hearts out."
Nangong Chang smirked boastfully, "I can’t compare to you, Third Master. I have been a Casanova and have made countless women cry whereas you spent years living a clean lifestyle. It came as quite a shock when I learned that you had fallen head over heels."
His gaze locked onto Qin Ruan, curiosity filling his eyes.
Huo Yirong scoffed, "You dare admit you’re a scoundrel? In what world can you compare to my third brother!"
He sat opposite to Nangong Chang, his eyes glinting coldly as if he couldn’t wait to beat Nangong Chang up.
"Of course, I wouldn’t dare compare myself to Third Master," Nangong Chang replied modestly.
He appeared unaffected by Huo Yirong’s words.
Third Master’s eyelids drooped slightly, his slender finger lightly flicking the clean sleeve of his robe, emitting an inherent, elegant charm.
With an indifferent tone, he asked, "Lord Nangong, you traveled thousands of miles to visit us. Surely, reminiscing the old times isn’t the only purpose of your visit?"
"Indeed."
Nangong Chang leaned back on the sofa and motioned for his bodyguard to come over.
The bodyguard immediately handed over a red envelope that looked like a wedding invitation.
Nangong Chang presented the invitation to Qin Ruan, smiling, "I am getting married in a few days. I hope Madam Huo will grace the occasion. I wasn’t aware of Madam Huo’s existence, all thanks to Third Master’s secrecy. Almost left you out, which would have been a poor show of manners on the part of the Nangong family."
After he finished speaking, he even winked at Qin Ruan. His friendly demeanor didn’t give her a chance to find fault.
Qin Ruan, with her arms around Third Master’s, didn’t reach out for the invitation.
Looking down, she focused on Nangong Chang’s hand holding the invitation, noticing the dense black evil Qi gathered on his hand.
That menacing Qi was so dark that it almost obscured the color of the invitation.
Qin Ruan looked distressed.
She realized that the evil Qi Nangong Chang had accumulated over his lifetime due to his bad deeds was all concentrated on his hand.
No wonder she initially found him to be so clean. He must have used a secret technique.
By channeling the evil Qi to a specific location one can delay damage to one’s lifespan and also be blessed with good fortune.
It seemed like Nangong Chang also had some knowledge about the occult and had a wise mentor.
Nangong Chang held out the invitation without withdrawing it.
Seeing Qin Ruan without any reaction, simply staring at his hand, Nangong Chang asked with a half-smile, "Is Madam Huo not willing to honor us with her presence?"
Qin Ruan snapped back to reality, about to respond.
Suddenly, a hand as delicate as jade stretched out and took the invitation from Nangong Chang.
Third Master held the invite by the fingertips, looking at its vibrant color with lowered eyelids, curling his lips slightly, "We will certainly attend your wedding. Allow me to congratulate Lord Nangong and Miss Xiao in advance."
Nangong Chang let out a satisfied smile, "We will prepare a place of honor for Third Master and Madam Huo."
Third Master responded, in a mild tone, "How courteous of you."
Nangong Chang’s smile waned, he looked apologetic, "On this visit, delivering the wedding invitation wasn’t the only reason, the other was to apologize to Madam Huo."
Qin Ruan’s eyes flickered. She knew what he would say next.
"Some time ago, one of my little pets offended Madam Huo’s family, causing some misunderstandings. That insolent creature has been taken care of this morning. Madam Huo, you need not worry about any follow-up troubles."
"Pet?" Qin Ruan lifted her beautiful lips, her voice cold and unfeeling.
"Yes, a little pet that I have kept for many years and have some feelings for."
Nangong Chang lounged against the couch, his eyes showing a faint hint of sadness.
Seeing him like this irritated Huo Yirong, "Ha! Nangong Chang, aren’t you hypocritical!"
He had always detested this bastard. Nangong was cunning, vindictive, and used dirty tricks, which was beneath contempt.
Nangong Chang looked innocent, "How can you call it hypocrisy? I’m just reminiscing. After all, I kept it by my side for many years, it always brought me joy. And now that it’s gone, I do feel somewhat reluctant."
Qin Ruan glanced at him casually, "If you’re reluctant to let go, why destroy it?"
Nangong Chang frowned, speaking righteously, "It offended Madam Huo. It must pay the price."
Qin Ruan seemed cold, retorted, "So now I’m the villain, I’m the executioner who made it pay the price?"
"Not at all," Nangong Chang gestured, his inky-black eyes looking steadily at Qin Ruan’s face, "The punishment was carried out by my men. This is my apology to Madam Huo, and I hope you won’t dwell upon the past incidents."
Qin Ruan’s gaze darkened and she said coldly, "Why would I care about that which I’ve never placed in my heart? Lord Nangong, you’re overthinking."
Huo Yirong scoffed, "Nangong Chang, you better not try throwing your own dirty water onto my sister. You have to face the consequences of your own deeds. Do whatever you want, just don’t mess with anyone from the Huo family."
"Tsk!" Nangong Chang clicked his tongue, his gaze filled with pity as he looked at Huo Yirong, "Are you really still upset about me pulling down your pants when we were kids?"
"Shut up!" the second master of the Huo family, Huo Yirong, blew a fuse.
